Chapter Eight: Impartial

"Holy crap..." David mutters, examining the weapon on Lui's dining table.

Plastic bags still lay underneath it, but it isn't very large. David is surprised it could even be a murder weapon, and if it wasn't for the blood he would be saying it was impossible. The baton itself is about a foot and a half long and three inches in circumference, painted gray and white with silvery tassels on either end. But, nearly the entire weapon is covered in browning, dried blood.

"We found it like this, I swear." Lui says, holding Ohm's shoulders. "The fingerprints on it will say Ohm but, but that's because he owns it, right?"

David sighs, taking the cleaning gloves Lui had given him and pulling them on. "Usually if someone is axed to death and we find someone's prints on the axe, we arrest them." He says, lifting the baton. It's light. It would take a lot of force to kill someone with it.

Ohm shuffles back, his socks sliding over the wood easily. "I-I promise sir, I didn't kill anyone. I'm t-too small, right? I have no muscle on me, how could I kill someone as big as Luke?" He looks ready to run, like he wants to flee and never come back.

"Detective, I will give you a statement and the weapon, but you have to leave Ohm alone." Lui says firmly, growling. Growling? Lui is in no position to make orders here, surely. But then David glances at Ohm, and back at Lui, and the facts truly don't add up. Ohm simply wouldn't be able to kill Luke unless the victim was heavily intoxicated. So, David takes orders from a stripper.

"Alright. Lui, help me wrap this up and I'll take you to the station. Ohm, I suggest you call Tyler." David sighs, rubbing his forehead. "Murders don't usually elude the public for long. Stay somewhere safe, once the public finds out about the murder weapon you and the club will be blamed."

Ohm seems to squirm at that, nodding in understanding and chewing on his bottom lip. Lui frowns, grabbing his shoulder. "Detective, could you give us a moment?" He pleads, to which David complies, gathering up the baton and the bloodied plastic bags before walking to his car without a word.

"You'll be okay." Lui murmurs, pulling Ohm into a hug and sighing softly. "It'll be over soon."

Ohm sniffles, squeezing Lui back. "Can I stay here tonight?" He pleads, shaking slightly. "I don't want to be alone after what the detective said."

Lui nods, smiling sympathetically. "Of course you can. You can take a bath, or just go to bed, I'll be back in a few hours," He says, checking the time. He frowns. "Yeah, it's really late. Go to sleep, Ohm. I'll make breakfast in the morning."

Ohm nods, slipping away without another word. Lui sighs heavily, putting his shoes back on and wrapping his jacket around himself. He walks outside into the snow and climbs into David's passenger seat, smiling the best he can, but he can't feel the crinkles around his eyes and he can tell David can't see them. He's shocked when the detective speaks. "Is Ohm alright?"

"Aren't you supposed to be impartial? Make no friends in an investigation." Lui pushes, only because he's interested.

David chuckles softly, pulling out of the driveway. "I make no friends, investigation or not. Being a detective ruined my people-skills. But, murder is a heavy subject and it takes a toll on everyone." He says, the gruffness in his voice smoothing out. Lui finds it relaxing, which makes the hairs on his arms stand up.

"Well, thank you for worrying about us. Ohm will be okay, he's just shaken up." Lui smiles, leaning back into the worn seat and watching the snow fly by the window. "Other then Ohm, do you have any leads?"

David chews on the inside of his lip, he can't tell Lui that. Even if he doesn't, it's against the rules. Then again, Lui is also a suspect... but no, that just makes it worse. He's worried, though. He needs a chance to regain his bearings, and maybe a white lie will comfort him. So, David sighs out. "A few."

Lui smiles, knowing David just broke the rules. "Thank you." He whispers, he didn't mean to whisper. David nods, and the car stays silent.
