·{Chapter No.1

"Brooks!" I cried, chasing after my best friend. He was gripping tightly to my hand as he bolted through the narrow pathways of the zoo. Cages flanked us, and animals chirped and growled as we passed by. Some only slightly lifted their heads, or ignored us altogether. We reached a thick bridge across a small stream housing thousands of fish and bugs that danced together in the green waters. I slapped a mosquito from my elbow, scowling. "Eww!"

He smirked at me, exposing his teeth. "Hurry up, slow poke!"

I rolled my eyes. "You're such a dick. I want to see the animals here. See?" I pointed to a small herd of catfish in the stream. "Those thingies look... interesting."

He gave me a sideways glance, and began to start moving again.

"Brooks!" I yelled after him. "You idiot, I'm going to get you!"

He laughed and continued to run. I zoomed after him, but his legs were longer than mine, and he was much faster. It was a proud moment in 6th grade when he was in crutches. I was faster than him for those months. But like anything else, those days passed.

I finally reached him, and put my hands on my knees bending forward, breathing heavily. I slapped his back. "You're it" I sighed, out of breath.

"You're an it...iot" he said as a pun of 'idiot'. This caused me to roll my eyes a second time.

"Can we go see the dolphins?" I begged, looking up at his face. He was thin and had little mussel, but he thought of his 'guns' as killers. He wore a baggy black shirt that reached his thighs, and could've gone to his knees if he pulled it down. He had black skinny jeans that showed his slim and "pretty" legs, or so he thought so. His hair was dyed black, but he was naturally blonde. His fringe fell in his eyes, and the rest was wild and unkept as if he had just rolled out of bed in the morning.

He hesitated. "Yeah. We'll go see the dolphins. But if they splash me, I'll have their heads."

I laughed. "Yay! Can I have a piggy back ride?" I pouted, rolling on my heels.

"No." He decided without hesitation.

I gave him puppy eyes and I quivering lip.

He rolled his eyes. "Okay. Hop on." And I mounted my royal horse.

-------

The dolphins were beautiful. They thrashed in the water, and chirped like beautiful birds soaring through the sky. One erupted from the water gracefully, causing an explosion of waves flying in all directions. It twisted in the air, grinning. I swear it winked. It tilted and dived into the water, disappearing into the crystal pool.

A very soaked Brooks scowled at the creatures. His dark hair was plastered against his forehead, and his eyes were glaring down the cheerful swimmers, but they spared him no attention.

I snapped a picture of it with my mobile, laughing. He rolled his eyes, but he was grinning as well. "I'm going to kill them. You're perfectly dry!"

I rested my head on his shoulder, and wrapped my arm around his back, overlooking the pool that has fallen dark after the hours of roaming through the zoo, and stars shined bright over the horizon.

I stared into the large, full moon in the sky. It glowed so bright, sometimes I forget it's just reflecting the sun's light....

"Hey Brooks?" I looked up to meet his eyes, but he was too lost in thought.

After moments of silence, and to my great surprise, he spoke. "Yeah?"

I smiled. "I'm really excited to meet Dan and Phil." I was thrilled just thinking about it. I was attending a big YouTube convention, and I had gotten tickets to meet Dan and Phil, my favorite YouTubers of all time -- and that's saying something. I watch YouTube for endless days, scrolling and shipping through the internet. If it was a job, I would be richer than Bill Gates, and I'd soar past Donald Duck. Trump. I meant Trump.

"I know." He said quietly. "It's gonna be great. You'll have fun."

"You're not coming?"

"No." His face was expressionless, and he wasn't meeting my eyes.

"But you love Dan and Phil!" I argued, disappointment swimming inside me like the dolphins in the pool. He promised me that he would be there.

"I'll be out of state. I'm going to my Grandmother's funeral." He breathed, as if he needed to explain himself to me. I gasped. He had always been so close to his grandma. His dad was never around and his mom is fighting cancer, and has been since Brooks was a kid. He often stayed with his mother's parents, who loved him perhaps more that his own father, and worlds more. His grandpa had died the year before, and now his grandma was gone too.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, Brooks!" I said, squeezing his hands.

"It's okay." He assured me, smiling.

I nodded. "Of course. Pay my respects, by the way. She was a good woman." I had only met her once. Me and Brooks were having a sleepover, even though my parents were apprehensive about me having it. But now I classify as agender, so I can hang out with him all I want. But during that sleepover, I had met her and she was as kind as the next old lady.

"Will do, M'Lady."

-----

"Hello California!" Dan sang, walking to the edge of the stage. "I am Dan Howell and this is Phil Lester!" He made a gesture to Phil, who was walking out of a huge microwave, which was shuffling smoke onto the stage. The crowd cheered, screamed and clapped. I was among them.

"Today, we have a set of flash cards." He enthused, showing us a deck of cards. "Each of them asks a question about our gaming channel, Dan and Phil games!" Another eruption from the crowd. "The questions will ask in an "in what video did this happen" format, and me and Phil will answer them. Try to guess along with us, if your all brave and shit!"

After another set of screams from the audience, Phil took the microphone. "You excited?!" The audience went more wild than the animals at the zoo.

"Okay first question!" Dan announced, and the audience waited in apprehension. "Is.... In what video did Dan and Phil tie their legs together?"

Dan swung his head back and exhaled, annoyed. "It was the dancing one with the mat.."

Phil had a look of concentration on his face. "The game was DDR...."

"Ugh!" Exasperation, Dan started at the crowd as if it would give him answers. He laughed, chuckling at his own stupidity. Typical Dan.

Phil laughed as well, overlooking the entire stadium, straining to remember.

"Okay. Just tell us." Dan begged the crowd. We all chanted at once. For we had seen that shit a hundred times; "THE THREE LEGGED DDR CHALLENGE!!!"

The show went on like that, silly jokes and puns from Dan and Phil, and applause from the audience. Never once had I laughed so many times in one day, slapped my knee, and rolled my eyes, exploding in laughter.

Finally, it was my turn to approach Dan and Phil.

I did so cautiously. They had always been people from a screen. I had never thought people so perfect could walk this earth. Nevertheless, there they were, smiling, waving. Dan with his head of brown hobbit hair, and Phil with his smile so large his eyes were squinted and his teeth were viewable.

I would never forget the way they looked. Dan was wearing a black shirt with a large white circle like the one on his profile picture. He was looking at me, gratitude burning his gaze, as if I was the one to thank. He was there for me whenever I was sad. He would make me smile and laugh despite how many tears were pouring down my cheeks.

And then there was Phil. He was looking at me as if I meant the world to him. As if I owed him everything. His eyes filled with love, life, and thankfulness. He was waving at me, and the world felt like it was in slow motion and I ran up and wrapped my arms around him, embracing him. I never wanted to let go.

Dan joined the hug, and we stood there in silence, embracing one another and me sobbing and smiling. I broke the hug. "You guys have been such an inspiration to me. I can't even express how much I owe to you!" I enthused through my tears, unable to stop grinning.

"Thank you for your support. We wouldn't be here without you." Dan shook my hand, smiling.

"I-I wrote you a letter." I said, pushing a package into Dan's chest, blushing. "It's nothing much. But.. um... it has a picture I drew and my mom packed some snacks and toys. And yeah."

They embraced me once more, and we chatted for a few minutes before I departed, still crying. I felt so cheerful and giddy inside. Every piece of me was happy, and that's all I wanted to be.

Suddenly, someone bumps into me, sending me flying, and landing head first on the concrete floor.

I look up at the person who had knocked be down. She was sneering at me. She was tall and blonde, and was holding the hand of a smaller girl about my age, but the details were fuzzy.

"You're such a little," the older one said a very unflattering word. "You should watch where you're going..." She trampled over me, tugging the second girl behind her.

"Yeah... sorry..."
