2: Friends or Problem?

"I'm dropping out."

Both of Jungkook's parents snap their heads to him from the dining table, shifting their gazes to a heavy stares as their son plops his backpack on the table in protest.

It's been a fucking week.

A whole, damn, fucking week.

To be fair, Jungkook has tried.

He really has, just for the sake of his parents, but that school is a fucking nightmare.

Slowly he started gaining much more attention as the new kid, even if he's tried to change his appearance like Seokjin has said to not appear so... New. The students don't really do anything to him, but their eyes are always on him, waiting for him to pull a move or fucking explode into a fight like how everyone does there.

So far, he doesn't have the need to do that just yet.

He's made no friends, not a surprise since he doesn't exactly seem so approachable. Besides, it seems as though this school has a little respect for their Juniors and Seniors, since they rarely try to push them around into a fight.

Through the midst of chaos, Jeongguk has tried to find the alpha leader of this school. Someone who everyone respect and wouldn't dare mess with, but it's been tough since Jeongguk avoids everyone so they wouldn't talk to him.

It doesn't seem like there is one, much to his luck.

If anything, even if the alpha of that school.

Anyway, this school, all and all is not for him.

He doesn't belong there.

Jungkook could've been making it to nationals with his football team already with the school he was in, but of course he single handedly fucked that up too.

Both of his parents only blinks back at him, not giving him any sense of pity, his mother perking an eyebrow from reading the newspaper, "Are the students bullying you?"

"No."

His father now puts his mug of coffee on the table, "Do you receive too much homework?"

"Well no."

"Have you been arrested?"

"What? No!"

"Okay," His mother chirps, looking back to the newspaper, "Looks like the school is doing you better."

Jungkook gaps his lips, "It's like a fucking zoo in there! These students aren't fucking students-"

"Now watch your language and tone," Mr. Jeon huffs, taking another sip of his coffee, "You're not getting out of that school so easily. Not until you get your act together, and that will be judged on your probation officer and what the court says in regards to what you do from here on out. Now, if you don't like the school than find something that will make it more bearable."

If it was that fucking easy.

There's nothing there that could possibly make that school bearable! He doesn't even get the motivation to do his work since the teachers clearly don't give a shit about it.

This is literally a waste of his time, but clearly his parents don't see it since they are obviously not there to see it.

Ridiculous.

That morning, unfortunately, Jungkook was sent back to that prison like building, going over that same routine in avoiding the hallway fights and sleepy teachers not bothering to teach their students anything since they didn't care.

Well, except for Ms. Lee Jooyoung- His biology teacher.

She's the only person, well teacher, every single person in this school respects and actually does her work, to no surprise. Maybe because it's how strict yet easy going she is, or her evident aura of not tolerating things, but she is definitely not one you'd want to get under her skin.

That's the only class Jeongguk doesn't feel like he's a failure to his life, and the teacher does seem to notice his potential based on his scores for homework that they've gotten this week thus far. Actually, she was kind enough to him to assign him someone from the class to be his guide for the first few days while he got use to the school.

This girl's name is Yeri, or how she goes by here.

She doesn't really talk much, or at all, but she's definitely much more approachable than Seokjin that's for sure. Jungkook wouldn't exactly consider her a friend, but they do sit together for lunch without exactly uttering a word to each other, but hey at least that's something.

At first she would wander off and expect Jungkook to follow, something Seokjin did too on his first day, which did happen at first, but now they just gradually find each other despite Jungkook already knowing where his classes are by now. Yeri refuses to leave his side regardless of that.

Perhaps afraid some of these students will ruin the new kid? Who knows. No one really talks to here, from what he's seen, and maybe it's because she just doesn't talk in general.

Not like Jungkook is complaining since at least he's not awkwardly alone anywhere.

Well, not like it's going to last long either way because today, Jungkook is going to his guidance counselors office and request for a drop out form.

And maybe run away, even if the cops hunt down his ass.

He's not about to stay in that school for a week longer.

That was the goal only fueling his mind as he walks his way to Phoenix high, which is a thirty minute walk to the dark side of town. This felt similar to being in school but just outside; shitty constructed buildings, sketchy streets with a broken down bodegas that's still the main go to for the people living around here.

Walking down this path for multiple days now, Jungkook before use to walk in hesitating fear that someone might have him at gun pointed or chase him down the side walks for drugs -That he obviously doesn't have. But now, that fear is still to the back of his mind, but he has grown a tint of... Pity.

Why hasn't anyone address on ways to improve this area? This place just needs good nourishment and for the people living here to be given that opportunity for better jobs or homes. Comparing his neighborhood to this one is definitely a difference, since it would just be humiliating.

Well, not like that's any of Jungkook's business now.

He's only a kid.

And this is not even his area.

Pushing those thoughts to the back of his head, Jungkook finally manages to make it to the gates of the nightmare. Nothing really has changed since the past few days he's been here in regards to the ambience; Potheads still smoking around the area, papers and school supplies flying everywhere, fights here and there. What's different is the girl sitting by the steps of the entrance, writing something on her notebook.

The familiar girl being Yeri, who always waits for him at that exact same spot after the first day since they've met. She doesn't look any different today than how she usually would look; Make up free face, two messy buns tying her raven hair, the only one who wears the uniform upright except for the skirt- instead it being pants.

She just always looks so small, maybe that's why Jungkook has grown a small soft spot for her since she can't exactly defend herself vocally. Maybe she can, who knows.

With a small smile, Jungkook was just about to approach her until he realized something.

But she's not alone.

There's this boy sitting beside her, looking into his notebook with the strangest sickly smile he's ever seen on someone's face. Okay, don't get him wrong, it's strange to see anyone genuinely smile in this place.

This is actually the first time Jungkook has seen someone look genuinely happy to even be here.

However, that actually raised a bit of Jungkook's guard.

Yeri doesn't talk, at all, she only responds back with a nod or a shake of her head. If this guy is bothering her, she wouldn't say anything back. Once again, no one really approaches her, so this is why this is strange. So to see someone close to her business nudged a little protective side of Jungkook, especially when the guy brushed a strand of her hair away from her face.

Well then, time to start to introducing himself.

Without sparing a minute, Jungkook approaches the two, making sure to avoid anyone in his way to avoid a confrontation while he's heaving in annoyance, stopping in front of them with a deep frown.

Yeri looks up first, blinking at him without twitching a smile as usual, but Jungkook only sends her a perked eyebrow and glances at the kid sitting next to her.

That's just seems to be their normal way of communicating; Through facial expressions.

And she didn't seem to form one back.

It seems as though the boy finally noticed Yeri's attention not on her notebook and looks up as well, his smile not fading away but his eyes did twitch to narrow a slight bit. From this angle Jungkook could clearly see, clear as day, that this boy's smile is more genuine than how it appeared to be from afar; glittering eyes, smooth skin that the sun loved kissing to on his pinchable cheeks, raven black hair pushed back by a black bandana yet a few wavy strands flickers forward to brush his eyebrows.

Looks like the type of person one of his friends, Namjoon, would hit on since he is quite attractive.

And radiating with.... Joy.

Strange how Jungkook never seen him here before. A presence like that would be hard to not notice.

"Oh hi! You're the newbie right?" Well looks are indeed deceiving since his voice is so fucking deep, "I'm Taehyung! Yeri mentioned you're her new friend now?"

Hm.... He's friendly... As of now...

Jungkook didn't drop his guard, stepping back when Taehyung stood up from the steps with Yeri just as the school bell rang to signal first period.

"And if I am or not?" Jungkook responds back coolly but not trying to be hostile, "How is that your business?"

Whoops, maybe that did sound a little hostile.

Not like it wasn't intentional.

Taehyung's smile strained, walking alongside to Yeri's other side as the three walk into the building, boldly swinging an arm over her shoulders that provoked Jungkook with this need to smack it off-

"As her cousin, I think it is my business," Jungkook's face falls, just as Taehyung's lips twitched higher, "Now are we going to be friends? Or a problem?"

Well, this guy is definitely something.

He may appear sweet, but who knows if he is who he actually shows to be?

If anything, it seems just like his tone: Passive aggressive, just to a certain extent.

If Jungkook wasn't being watched now by literally everyone from fucking up his records again, he would've most likely started a fight with this guy right now. Maybe it's Jungkook's short temper, but Taehyung's tone was anything but similar to his smile.

It's clear he's no different from anyone here, but definitely much more approachable from the outside.

So Jungkook only looked at Yeri, who stares back at him with those wide eyes of emotionless abyss. She knew that look. He was waiting for her to confirm this new information, or come to her rescue.

But much to Jungkook's relief, she nods subtly.

Great, would be unpleasant for Jungkook to get into a fight on his first week.

So he glances back to Taehyung and forces a smile back, "Friends it is."
