Felix always had little difficulty envisaging his future as a child. He had always dreamt about being a professional dancer who was driven by his passion and nothing else. It seemed so easy to make this dream come true since dancing was something which helped Felix get all the negative emotions out of his system. Sadly, real life was a lot more complicated than a child's dream.
To pursue his dream of becoming a professional dancer, Felix had left his home country to try his luck elsewhere. He was very optimistic about staying in a country where cars could fly due to being propelled by turbines which resembled the ones of a spaceship.
Yes, the city of Levanter surely was something else.
When Felix arrived in Levanter he had been mesmerized by the city's infrastructure even at the airport. It differed a lot from what he was used to at home. Still, Levanter wasn't the only thing, which had Felix's eyes glimmering like the sun itself. The man, who was assigned the task of escorting Felix to his new home, was incredibly stunning. He had a kind, warm, dimpled smile, scarlet red hair, and a broad yet short frame.
Soon enough Felix learned that the handsome man was called 'Bang Chan' and surprisingly he spoke Felix's mother tongue. Somehow, the two instantly connected over it and talked about the most random stuff until they reached the dorm Felix would call home for a long time.
Chan was kind enough to introduce Felix to his new dorm mates. Along with Felix and Chan there were eight guys living in the dorm and Felix soon noticed that they were all a bit different, but he was the last one to complain.
"Jisung, give me back my phone or I will curse you", Hyunjin threatened, glaring at the male with the hazel hair, who was casually floating in the middle of the living room. Jisung didn't pay any attention to Hyunjin and continue to scroll through some pictures on the other's phone. Hyunjin scowled while his usually longish, blond hair turned bright red.
Felix sat on the couch, looking back and forth between the two and contemplated if he should interfere or not. On the one hand, he could prevent an argument between the two and on the other he would position himself between two beings with superpowers. So, the question was if he wanted to stay safe or risk his life.
"Really, you two. This again?", another voice spoke up from behind Felix. A little sigh escaped Felix when he turned his head around and saw Seungmin enter the living room. The ingenious problem solver had finally arrived.
Hyunjin turned his head towards Seungmin and his hair immediately turned from bright red back to blond. The scowl on his face disappeared and was replaced by a cute pout.
"Seungminnie, Jisung took my phone again", Hyunjin lightly whined and Felix had to refer from laughing by the sudden mood change of the taller male. Jisung just huffed from behind the tall blond, still hovering in the air.
"Goodness, you're such a baby. Teasing you used to be more fun", Jisung commented, regaining the room's attention. The rather small man with the hazel hair let himself drop back onto the ground and handed Hyunjin his phone. The blond quickly snatched his phone back and held it close to his chest while glaring at Jisung who just stuck his tongue out for a short moment.
"I can't believe you two are supposed to be older than me", Seungmin sighed and shook his head. Felix mentally agreed with him. It was unbelievable and he totally would never get into trouble with those two. Never. (Okay, maybe he did once, twice, ...)
"Well, Felix-hyung just watched and enjoyed the show. That's not very mature either", someone spoke up directly beside Felix. At this point, Felix merely flinched when he turned his head to see a young man with dark hair and a big, dimpled smile on his face sitting beside him.
Jeongin was the youngest in the dorm, but he had one of the most practical and somehow scariest abilities ever. He could teleport himself to any location he could picture in his mind. More often than not he used this abilities to scare other people by suddenly appearing beside them. Felix had a bit of a problem getting used it if he was honest with himself.
"Maybe I didn't want to stand between two guys with superpowers", Felix admitted, avoiding to look at the other four. Unlike all of his dorm mates, Felix was human and the human body was delimited, so standing between two fully grown, young men with superpowers really wasn't the smartest idea for him. Jeongin began giggling at that.
"I always forget that Felix-hyung is just human", the maknae joked and laid his head onto Felix's shoulder. Felix debated on just standing up and walking away to show his displeasure, but normally it didn't work on Jeongin. The better option was just staying put and enjoying the younger man's closeness because he usually avoided any kind of physical affection.
"Oh, definitely, but I'm pretty sure Felix's ability is being otherworldly handsome", Jisung answered smugly with a wide grin plastered on his face. Felix felt a bit of heat rise up his cheeks, but he prayed to all gods he knew that nobody was able to see that he was flustered.
"Yeah, I agree. Felix really is otherworldly pretty", Hyunjin agree with Jisung, mirroring the floating male's smug grin. Felix's face just got warmer and he hated how he didn't know how to reply to those kinds of compliments.
"Okay enough with the compliments. Felix obviously doesn't know how to reply to them", Seungmin spoke up again. Hyunjin and Jisung whined at him at the same time, to which the boy with the black hair barely reacted. He just shook his head in mild disapproval to which Felix almost laughed. Seungmin may be one of the younger members, but he often held the one brain cell the 00' liners shared.
"Seungmin-hyung is such a mum", Jeongin huffed quietly beside Felix. The blond had a hard time keeping a straight face, because of this comment, but he tried his best because it was obvious that Seungmin didn't hear it.
"Can you guys be quiet for one day?" someone groaned. Felix stretched his neck to look behind himself to see the older guys in their dorm finally emerge. A short but broad-shouldered man with silver hair had been the one to loudly complain. He was accompanied by Chan and a young man with dark brown hair. Hyunjin and Jisung rolled their eyes with varying degrees of affection at the comment.
"You're usually the loudest, Changbin-hyung," Jeongin replied cheekily. Changbin send him a small glare while Chan merely giggled. Felix always thought that Chan's giggle was adorable, but it hit different when his hair was still a bit messy and more curly.
"He doesn't notice that, hyung. He can't hear himself," Minho added, patting Changbin's shoulder nonchalantly as he passed the shorter male. Changbin seemed ready to argue, but was quickly distracted by Hyunjin draping himself over his back. Minho swung himself over the couch, landing on Felix's free side. If Felix's heart did a little jump at that he elected to ignore it.
"Don't get too comfy. We have to head out soon if we want to see the light show," Chan reminded them. Felix's eyes immediately lit up at that. The light show was only once a year in Levanter and considered to be a national celebration of uniqueness. As soon as Felix had heard about it, he wanted to see it despite there not being one thing about him that was unique. Luckily, all his dorm mates had made it a tradition to go watch it every year.
"We're heading out in about two hours, right?" Seungmin asked. Chan nodded.
"Great. Then I will make breakfast with Minho-hyung and the rest of you should wash up and get dressed," Seungmin instructed while walking up to Minho and grabbing the older's arm to drag him up and to the kitchen. Minho looked displeased but didn't complain about being dragged away to cook. The rest of them moved back to their rooms to get dressed and ready. Felix called dips on the bathroom to which Jisung loudly complain, but rules were rules.
After Felix had showered and changed into comfortable yet warm cloths, he moved back into the living area. The dorm was starting to smell wonderfully, so he decided to stick his head into the kitchen and see what Minho and Seungmin had decided to cook for breakfast - despite it being more like brunch if you looked at the time.
Several things were hovering in mid air and moving on their own accord while Seungmin leaning on a counter, eyes focused on the cook book in his hands. Minho was keeping himself busy by moving around in a speed that was entirely inhuman and almost dizzying to watch.
"What are you making?" Felix asked as he moved further into the kitchen. It almost got him run over by Minho, but he was caught as quickly as he had been bumped.
"Sorry," Minho apologized as he stabilized Felix again. He quickly went back to his task which gave Felix a moment to compose himself. His heart really should stop freaking out whenever Minho just laid an arm around his waist.
"Well, we settled on pancakes and waffles for the people with the sweet tooth and omelette and rise for the ones that would rather have something else," Seungmin explained as he lowered the cook book he was holding while everything else such as the spatulas and pans moved on their own. Minho seemed to be faster than their mixer which was probably why he had apparently tasked with mixing the base of their various dishes.
"Can I help with anything?" Felix asked despite not seeing one task that he could do. Seungmin waved him off.
"No, we got everything covered. I mean I can do everything at the same time and Minho-hyung can do everything fast, so we should be done in no time," Seungmin explained with a small smile. Felix wanted to return the smile, but he did feel disappointed that he couldn't help them. Seungmin seemed to notice as much. He had always been quite observant.
"But we can always use a taste tester," Seungmin added, patting the counter next him. Felix walked over to him and hopped onto the counter next to Seungmin. Realistically, he knew that Seungmin just said that to make him feel better, but he couldn't help the content smile that made itself visible when Minho brought him a in-dough-covered whisk without prompting. He said a quiet thanks to which Minho showed a small grin before he was off again.
With Minho's speed and Seungmin's instructions as well as telekinesis, the food was finished quick. Felix dutifully taste tested everything, so it was essentially perfect. If Seungmin at one point dabbed Felix's nose with flour and then smiled cheekily, causing Felix's heart to jump then no one noticed it.
The rest of their dorm mates came out of their rooms when Seungmin called for them. Minho had taken off to quickly get ready himself. He came back - looking even more handsome with his hair now neat and dressed in soft clothes - before everyone had sat down.
They ate and filled the silence with their usual jokes and antics. Jisung took it upon himself to tease everyone except Felix and when he was called out for it he merely grinned and said that Felix was too pure to be made fun of. Jeongin merely muttered "simp" at that which caused everyone to break into laughter while Felix's face became red. His heart was happily jumping in his chest and he wished dearly for it to stop.
After breakfast - technically brunch but everyone seemed to ignore it - Jisung and Hyunjin were elected to do the dishes while the rest was free to relax for some more until they had to head into the city. Felix would have been content with just sitting in the living room area and doing something on his phone to pass the time, but instead he got dragged away by Jeongin and Seungmin. It was a bit concerning to be dragged away by the dorm's two mischievous youngest. Felix was pulled into Jeongin's room and made to sit down on his bed while the room's inhabitant threw open his wardrobe.
"Mission 'Find something to wear that does not look ridiculous under a thick coat' is go," Jeongin declared proudly. Felix couldn't help the giggle that escaped him, but he quickly reigned it in when he saw how Jeongin grinned at him. It made his heart beat just a tad faster. Seungmin settled down next to Felix, swinging his feet back and forth while looking at Jeongin's opened wardrobe critically. Normally, fashion was more up Hyunjin's alley, but he was doomed to do the dishes with Jisung.
"There isn't much we can do," Seungmin mused, "The coats will essentially cover everything, so we can at least go with something comfortable."
"If you are suggesting something along the lines of sweat pants, you are excluded from this mission," Jeongin hummed while grabbing one of his woolen pullovers and throwing it to Felix. It would have landed on Felix's head if a certain someone didn't stop it with his psychic abilities. Felix sent a grateful smile Seungmin's way as the pullover gently settled on his lap.
"I think the woolen pullover would look great on Felix along with a white button-up underneath," Jeongin said mostly to himself before he also threw a button-up over his shoulder and towards Felix. This time Seungmin stood to catch it himself. Felix swore the button-up still fly a bit too much into his hand to be natural, but Seungmin looked cool either way. Too cool according to Felix's jumping heart.
"Sure it will look cute on Felix - everything does - but it will be hidden by the coat either way," Seungmin pointed out while handing the white button-up to Felix, who was slightly blushing from the bluntly delivered compliment. Jeongin turned his head just to sent a small glare Seungmin's way. There was no denying that Seungmin had a point, but the dorm's rule of thumb was 'What the youngest wants, the youngest gets'.
"The others will see, so I don't see your problem," Jeongin insisted. Seungmin gave up with a sigh while Felix didn't even dare to argue with Jeongin. He would just wear what the dorm's youngest picked out for him.
In the end, Felix did wear the creme-colored, woolen pullover with the white button-up shirt underneath. He was allowed to keep wearing the black jeans that he had put on after his shower, but he had to accessories it with a silver chain and promise to wear his ankle-high, dark leather boots. Jeongin also insisted on Felix wearing one of his silver necklaces. Seungmin managed to talk the younger out of giving Felix's silver rings too, stating they would be nuisance with his gloves, but the compromise what a dangling silver earring.
Seungmin was happy with a red hoodie and black pants while Jeongin decided on a similar style to Felix with a white button-up underneath a dark blue pullover. Felix could swear that the dark blue pullover belonged to Hyunjin, but he didn't question it.
Shortly after all of them were finally dressed, Changbin came to get them as they had to go soon. Jeongin immediately teleported out of the room at that. Judging by the screech that shortly followed, he had scared the life out of Hyunjin. Seungmin rolled his eyes at that, but was quick to leave the room. Probably to make sure that Hyunjin didn't die of a heart attack.
"You look really nice," Changbin commented, bringing Felix's attention to the short male. Changbin's eyes were focused to the side, which brought Felix to the quick conclusion that he was being shy. It made his freckled cheeks burn bright red.
"T-thank you. Jeongin picked the outfit. It took him some time," Felix stuttered, rubbing at his neck. Changbin's eyes finally met Felix and the small smile that was on his lips seemed almost too soft for him.
"He did a good job. Though, you look good in pretty much everything," Changbin mumbled. How he managed to give the almost same compliment as Seungmin was a mystery in its own right, but it did increase in effectiveness as Felix had to refer from just turning around, finding the nearest pillow and screaming into it.
"Are you coming?" Changbin asked, tilting his head towards the door. Felix quickly nodded and followed the smaller male out of the room and back into the main living area. Jisung was floating in the air again while tying his boots while Seungmin was levitating their coats to their owners. Looking at Jisung reminded Felix that he still needed to grab his dark leather boots from his room. He said as much to Changbin before quickly turning and dashing to his room.
After a quick search, he found the boots and put them on with a certain haste. When he returned to the living area, most of the others were already finished with putting on their coats and shoes. Only Hyunjin was struggling with the laces of his shoes, but that was probably due to Jisung floating around him like an annoying insect. It was visibly testing Hyunjin's patience.
Changbin handed Felix his coat and a pair of fuzzy but soft gloves. The freckled boy thanked him before taking everything and quickly putting it on. Meanwhile, Hyunjin had managed to tie his shoes and Chan had made Jisung stop floating.
"Everyone ready?" Chan asked loudly. He only got agreement in return. Some of which was louder and more obnoxious than others.
While they were filing out of the door, Chan seemed to do a small head count. When Felix wanted to head out the door, he felt Chan tug on his arm. He turned towards the older male only to be greeted Chan laying a soft fabric around his head.
"It's pretty cold here around this time, so better be safe than sorry," Chan smiled as he secured the scarf around Felix's neck. It was a good thing that the scarf was covering a good bit of Felix's cheeks. Otherwise Chan would have noticed the bright red color on them.
"Are you two coming?" Changbin called for them.
"We're coming," Chan quickly answered, taking Felix hand and pulling him out of the dorm. He locked the door before joining the others all while not letting go of Felix's hand.
They walked through the streets of Levanter at a relaxing pace. The sky was quickly darkening, letting the lights of the city shine in their brightest colors. According to Chan the light show was the most impressive from a bit of a higher vantage point, so they agreed to head to Levanter's main theater which had been build on a hill. To get there they had to walk to the main city and get into a tram that would take them to the bottom of the hill. From there they could choose if they wanted to switch to the tram that would take them up the hill to the theatre or if they wanted to walk.
Moving through a crowded city such as Levanter with a group of eight was a bit more challenging than with a smaller group. It required a lot of patience and making sure that everyone was still there. Felix was really glad that Chan was still holding his hand while they weaved through the crowds in the main part of the city. At one point, Felix even managed to grab Hyunjin with his free hand. It was probably the best for Felix and Hyunjin to stick to Chan. Felix was no stranger to getting lost and Hyunjin often managed to get directions wrong.
They all sighed in relief when they all managed to pile into the tram. Felix had seen Chan do multiple headcounts before and after they stepped into the tram. Luckily for them, there was plenty of space in their part of the tram. Jisung pulled Minho to a seat and essentially dragged the older into his lap. Minho didn't seem to mind and leaned back against Jisung. Hyunjin seemed inspired by that. He tugged at Felix's hand, making the freckled boy accidentally let go of Chan only to be swiftly maneuvered to another free spot and dragged into Hyunjin's lap.
"This is better," Hyunjin hummed, putting his head on Felix shoulder while putting his arms around the slightly smaller male's waist. Felix didn't know what to do for a solid second before he actively decided to not overthink it and allowed himself to lean against Hyunjin. Felix swore he saw Hyunjin's hair flash pink, but it was hard to tell with most of it being hidden by his beanie.
At one point Felix felt someone's gaze on him, making a part of him tense out of habit. He slowly looked around only to spot Chan smiling softly at Hyunjin and him. Though, he quickly adverted his gaze when Felix looked his way. A small sigh escaped Felix and he fully relaxed against Hyunjin again. He should really stop worrying so much when he was with his dorm mates. He was the one that lacked uniqueness while they were full of it. If people would pay attention to them, he would be the last person to stick out.
When they arrived at their stop, Chan ushered all of them out of the tram and proposed the idea of walking up the hill to the theatre as they still had time until the light show. The majority of their group showed their displeasure in a collective groan.
So another tram ride it was.
This time Felix was snatched away by Jisung who secured yet another sitting spot for himself and then dragged Felix into his lap. He hooked his chin over Felix's shoulder, grinning smugly at Hyunjin who huffed and decided to drop himself over Seungmin's back to be comforted. Felix suppressed the urge to roll his eyes at their antics and instead pinched Jisung's thigh to which the other loudly complained.
After they finally made their way to the theatre, Felix could only gasp at the view. The hill may not be heigh enough to make one stand above Levanter's skyscrapers, but it brought one more towards an eye-level with them. Felix let his hand slip out of the grip Jisung had on him, so he could walk towards the waist-high wall that surrounded the platform that had been build in front of the theatre. From there you could look down to Levanter and watch the hustle and bustle in the main city, count the millions of lights that shown from lamps, windows, cars, take in the sound of a lively city that decided it wanted to show its uniqueness by giving its people the opportunity to be themselves and advance alongside them.
"It's beautiful," Felix breathed. It was visible in the cold night air, but disappeared quickly. The others had followed Felix. Chan came to a halt on his right, his eyes also focused on the city that laid before them.
"You will love the light show then," Chan said, smiling at Felix.
"It will start in about ten minutes," Seungmin declared. He was leaning against the wall with Hyunjin attached to his back.
"I wish they would do this more often instead of just at the end of the year," Jisung huffed. He was floating in the air again, but had his hands on Jeongin's shoulders. The youngest didn't seem to mind.
"You can't celebrate with a light show every day. It would make it less special, idiot," Changbin huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. Jisung let go of Jeongin just to float over to Changbin and steal his beanie. It started to an entirely different type of playing tag. Jisung was floating around with Changbin's beanie while Changbin jumped high into the air several times to catch him. Chan put a stop to it with a stern look, but judging by Changbin and Jisung's reaction they probably had gotten a firm scolding via the oldest's telepathy.
It was just in time for the light show to start. Felix was looking at the Changbin's and Jisung's pouting faces when their faces were illuminated in bright red light. He turned around only to watch a gigantic red dragon fly through the sky, spiting bright orange fire that towards the stars. The dragon roared silently and turned towards the heaven while rising and rising until it disappeared in the clouds in an explosion of fire red and bright orange. In its stead came a silver wolf that chased through the sky along with his pack of seven. Their howls were silent, yet Felix had the feeling he heard their chorus loud and clear. They continued to run and chase each other, occasionally tripping someone else in good fun. Felix couldn't help but smile at them.
The light show continued, showing a bunch of different animals and sights all over the world. It was beautiful in every possible sense, but Felix was still stuck with the first two creatures and their contrast. The lonely dragon that rose to the sky only to have a pack of eight silver wolves to follow him in its chase towards something. He couldn't grasp the reason why it stuck with him more than other parts of the light show; it just did.
When Changbin decided to lean against Felix's back, the freckled boy found himself immediately leaning into the offered touch. Maybe he had liked how the dragon had turned into the pack of wolves because it reassured one that sometimes being the special one was lonely. So, what would you chose loneliness and unquestionable uniqueness or companionship and sameness? Felix would go with the second option now. Though, he would add that he could never be the same as his other dorm mates. He would remain the one without a supernatural power, but he knew now that his dorm mates still made him feel special regardless.
