"Pumpkin Spice" // Seungjin
A crisp autumn breeze left leaves flying around the small sidewalk where a red headed boy was walking peacefully with his eyes wandering in all directions. His attention was caught by a sign up ahead of him that read something about a pumpkin spice latte. He clicked his tongue as he avoided some people walking with their heads down and he made his way towards the coffee shop.
The line inside the shop lead to outside the door with people buzzing in frustration as they walked by. Seungmin didn't mind the wait so he quietly lined up behind a grey haired boy a bit older than him. He found a small smile forming on his lips when the said boy glanced at him and flashed a brighter smile, indicating he was one of the only happy people in the line up.
"Long line eh?" He spoke up, stuffing his hands in his pocket as he observed his breath in the air.
"It seems that way." Seungmin shrugged and chuckled slightly. "I don't mind the wait."
"Me neither. It's nice weather today. I'm Chan."
"Seungmin."
"Are you here to try the pumpkin spice latte? It's the new trend to have."
Seungmin hummed and looked around till he spotted a menu a bit in the distance. "Maybe. Is it good?"
"I don't know. I'm here trying it for the first time because my boyfriend wouldn't let me live it down." He chuckled as well and Seungmin nodded.
"I guess we'll have to see when the time comes." He checked the time on his phone and slipped it back into his pocket quickly.
"Fair enough." And with that Chan smiled again and turned back to face the front where people started shuffling forward.
-
"Hello how can I help you?" The barista said loudly over the powering voices of everybody in the shop.
Chan set his hands down on the counter and peered at the menu before ordering in a matching tone. Seungmin flinched a bit as the noises got louder but he focused on Chan and the boy serving him.
His hair was fallen over his eyes a little and his plump lips seemed to be quivering from the constant wind flowing through the door. His expression was shaken and he seemed stressed, but Seungmin was still in awe at the beauty of this stranger.
He didn't have a jaw dropping moment, or a love at first sight freak out, he just simply thought this man was a gorgeous sight to look at. This made is so that when Chan was done ordering and Seungmin was up, his voice went a bit more shy.
"Can I help you?" His voice was still louder than Seungmin's but this time he didn't flinch.
"Yes please-" Seungmin looked at the picture of the latte he saw before and the barista followed his gaze.
"It's good. I would recommend it."
Seungmin brought his eyes back down slowly and he nodded, noticing the name tag on the worker that read Hyunjin. A pretty name.
"I'll have that then." He smiled warmly and Hyunjin inhaled deeply at the cute boy in front of him.
"Of course." He stuttered around with his words and he fumbled with his hands as he grabbed the cup and forgot what to do.
The worker beside him got the customer behind Seungmin as he moved to the side to shyly watch Hyunjin work.
"I'm sorry about the mess, some people called in sick today and I'm still a trainee." Hyunjin spoke out as he filled the cup with some freshly brewed liquid.
Seungmin nodded again and fiddled with the strings of his hoodie. "It's okay. I understand. Don't rush."
Hyunjin felt his voice was going to melt his heart and he avoided eye contact in case he'd embarrass himself somehow. "Thank you."
He turned back to Seungmin after the drink was finished and he smiled slightly as he reached out to hand it to him. His smile then faltered when the drink slipped from his hand and the cup fell down onto the counter.
Seungmin let out a small laugh and he covered his mouth as soon as he realized what he had done. Hyunjin looked flustered and Seungmin felt bad for the worker. "Hey it's okay-" He tried to reassure him but Hyunjin just huffed and stood still pondering on what to do.
"Okay so that was horrible." He grabbed a drink and handed it to a rushed person beside Seungmin at the end of the counter. "I'm so sorry- let me make you a new one."
"It's okay, I can wait while you do some more people."
Hyunjin looked up at the boy and exhaled heavily. "I'll be done my shift in about six minutes, how about I make you a fresh drink as my last drink, I'll pay for it and I'll bring it over to you. Is that okay?"
Seungmin felt heat rising to his cheeks as Hyunjin looked at him with pleading eyes, eyes that made his heart do flips. "Of course. But you don't have to pay for it."
"Too bad." Hyunjin dismissed the topic quickly and he motioned Seungmin to an empty seat outside in the corner.
"Okay okay." Seungmin raised his hands in defeat and turned around to walk out, but not without sparing another glance at the older.
-
"Okay so one pumpkin spice latte for~" Hyunjin said as he exited the shop and placed a cup in front of Seungmin on the table.
"Seungmin."
"Damn so it wasn't Billy. That's what I guessed and wrote on the cup." Hyunjin stood a bit awkwardly, looking at the chair across from Seungmin.
"No but close." He chuckled. "You can sit down."
"Are you sure? I kinda messed up your drink and people usually get mad about that."
"Well you brought me another one didn't you?"
"That's true." Hyunjin quickly sat down and pulled his hood over his head as the wind increased.
"Cold?"
"Very. I don't get cold often." Hyunjin admitted as he sheepishly hid his face a little bit, making Seungmin accidentally awe at him.
"We could have sat inside."
"No it's okay!" He quickly defended, shaking his head and smiling. "I can handle it for someone cute like you." Seungmin wasn't expecting that answer so he almost choked a bit on his first sip of the drink. "How is it?"
"It's really good." Seungmin nodded in approval and set it back down on the table.
"Good I tried to make it my best one yet."
"Well I really appreciate it."
They sat in a comfortable silence for a couple seconds before Hyunjin gasped and stood up. "I'm so sorry I forgot my phone in the back room."
"Go and get it don't worry." Seungmin smiled at him and watched as he hurried away back into the store.
When Hyunjin was gone he picked up the cup again and furrowed his eyebrows as he noticed some writing on the side. He moved the cup from his lips and looked at the number with a smiley face beside it and a little note.
I know I'm gonna be too shy and embarrassed to ask for yours so I thought I'd be cliche and give you mine
Seungmin awed again and he brought his hands up to his cheeks to stop them from growing red as Hyunjin was running back out through the store.
But in that split second he was alone before he was joined by Hyunjin again he cursed at himself when he felt his heart tug and he had that cliche love at first sight moment.
"Goddamn it Hyunjin." He mumbled, shaking his head with a small smile when the boy ran back, out of breath, still looking just as good to Seungmin.
