Lay Low
Hydra
Hiro felt confusion settling into his mind, slowing the gears that usually turned. His brows knit together as the two stood by the window, staring at the men and women climbing from the black vehicles. Bucky stared down at them with a darkened expression. They were coming into the cafe and, faintly, Hiro could hear the deep voices of some of them already. His Aunt was a great woman and Hiro knew she would be honest. In this case, honesty wouldn't hurt them- Cass didn't know about Bucky. But, Hiro did, which meant that they were running out of options as far as a story went.
"Hey. Kid."
Hiro's head turned as he was brought from his thoughts. "What?"
"I said we better move. They're going to search your house. All of it."
"What- when did you hear them say that?" Bucky didn't offer Hiro an answer, instead moving quietly across the room and towards the stairs. There was no door to the staircase, which meant the only indicators were going to be footsteps. "Just now," Bucky murmured. If he didn't leave or hide, he would cost this boy and his Aunt their lives. Hiro walked up next to him and leaned to look over the rail. He saw shadows and heard voices getting louder. He pulled away quickly and looked to Bucky. He had to find a way to help them both.
"Come on. We can find a way out-" He paused when a harsh shhh came from Bucky. The two froze in place, both making eye contact before looking towards the stairs. His Aunt's distinct voice was breaking through the muttering of the men.
"Please don't go up the stairs," Cass said, walking briskly towards the three men at the foot of the steps. "We're doing construction and work on the walls. Can't you see the pictures are taken down? I'm setting up to paint another coat."
"Ma'am, with all due respect, we'd like to speak to your nephew."
"I sent my nephew out so that he wouldn't be in his room while I repainted the hallway. He's spending the night at a friend's house and won't be back until tomorrow afternoon. If you guys want, you can come back then." Cass was, indeed, Hiro's aunt. Despite the men suspecting something was fishy, they did seem to buy her story that Hiro wasn't home. Cass moved to her counter and motioned to the various snacks there. Hiro couldn't hear her as well as before, which meant that the men had moved down into the cafe once again. He did hear the faint words of, 'How about some snacks for the road?'
Hiro let out a sigh and looked to Bucky. The man looked fairly impressed, though he quietly made his way to the window. Peering out of the blinds, he saw the men walking back to their vehicles with white bags ( most likely sweets ). He watched one man give commands and he pulled away before they could look up at the window. "They're not going to leave. You know that, right?"
"Obviously not," Hiro grumbled, "They're probably going to watch the house. My Aunt got rid of them for now,but I have a feeling these guys aren't my biggest problem."
"You Aunt?"
"She can be an issue when the situation calls for it. For now, we shouldn't be here. They could have placed bugs. Baymax!" The red luggage gave a faint beep, the ring on the upper right illuminating with light. A good three pulses later, the case hissed and it began to open up. Air rushed out and the vinyl bot was soon standing at his full six foot height. Black optics blinked before a hand moved to wave.
"Hello, Hiro." Hiro waved his hands and pressed an index digit to his own lips.
"Baymax," he whispered, "Scan for bugs." Bucky stared with a raised brow, looking confused. This vinyl mech was some sort of robot? He looked too soft to be a robot- his arm had more metal than this creation. He looked to Hiro, who seemed to be struggling with explaining something to the bot.
"Not those kind of bugs, Baymax," Hiro hissed, teeth clenching to stop the groan of exasperation, "Mechanical bugs. Check if these guys bugged the house- just run a scan!" Baymax blinked and commented that he was only joking. He ran a scan, which only took a matter of seconds, and reported his findings to Hiro.
"There are three audio bugs and one camera hidden in the plants. They are located here, here and here." Bucky looked up at the graph that was being displayed. He was mildly impressed with the way Baymax was built, even if he looked softer than anything else. He chose not to say anything, however, knowing that this was important and there would be time for questions later. He watched as Hiro fumbled quietly around the room, looking for something or another. He motioned to Baymax and the two seemed to be working on something together. Bucky's head tipped to the left, curiosity pulling at him. This child, even though a teenager, had a lot to bear on his shoulders. Bucky realized that he had been found by someone that was hardly average- this kid was a genius. Awkward, yes, but a genius all the same.
"Bucky." The voice caught his attention and Bucky looked to the teenager. Hiro had a backpack slung over his shoulder and Baymax was waddling slowly towards his station. "We gotta go. Come on. There's a window by the storage room on the second floor that we can use to hook onto the fire escape and take off." He looked to Baymax and nodded. "I'm satisfied with my care." The bot nodded and slowly waddled back to his recharge station. As quick as he'd been awakened, he deflated and went back into a peaceful charge. Much to Bucky's surprise, Hiro grabbed the strap hanging off of that and he slung that over his shoulder as well.
"Be quiet, but follow me." He stuck his hand in his pocket, pulling out a round sphere. He clicked a few buttons and waited for it to turn green. "We gotta lay low for a while. We'll go down to the pier- lots of tourists there. We'll blend in with the crowd. You ready?"
"What's that?"
"This? It's a jammer. It'll jam the bugs down there and give us time to at least sneak out the back. Listen, we can't come back here until tomorrow. But, I know my way around the city- we'll be fine." He paused and reached over for an SFIT hat. He shoved it against Bucky's chest and grinned. "You're gonna wanna wear that. Now, come on.Don't tell me you've never sneaked out of a place before." Hiro gave the other a gap toothed smile and moved to make his way quietly down the stairs. Bucky stood at the top of the stairs for a moment. It was hard to imagine that someone would be helping him, let alone a child and his vinyl robot. Was this right?
"Bucky, come on," Hiro hissed quietly, "We're running out of time! The jammers don't last long and I only threw one down there." Bucky shifted and slid the hat on, hiding his face. He made his way down the stairs, taking one look back up them. For now, maybe it would be wise to trust this not-so-total stranger. After all, he seemed to be harmless and he clearly wasn't Hydra.
"Out this window and down the fire escape. From this street, we'll hit Embarcadero and we can find the pier."
"What-"
"Just follow me. I know where I'm going."
Bucky watched as Hiro climbed down the window, sneakers barely touching the ledge of the fire escape. He grabbed onto one of the supports and swung himself down onto a platform. He crouched, almost silently, and looked around. "All clear," he said quietly, motioned for the other. Bucky stared at the other in slight disbelief. How old was this kid again? Hiro laughed at his expression, looking truly like a child in that small moment.
"What is it?"
"How do you know how to do all this? Got a girl you sneak out for,"Bucky asked in a teasing manner, moving to jump down. Hiro gave him a puzzled expression, brows risen in surprise. "Maybe your Aunt doesn't know about it?" The younger Hamada laughed as they slowly made their way down to the street. "Don't be stupid, man..."
"I just used to go bot fighting a lot."
"What the hell is bot fighting?"
"Don't worry about it," Hiro said as he moved towards the side door of the garage. He pulled the door open and used his phone as a light, too wary to turn on the light inside. Bucky was behind him, peering into the darkness.
"What are we here for, Hiro?"
The light fell on a red vehicle, a white helmet hanging from the handle. It was a little scraped up, but the vehicle was in perfect condition.A crimson red moped.
"We're gonna need a ride."
