Bite

The cafe came into view soon enough and Bucky breathed a sigh of relief. The black trucks were gone and, despite knowing that there were bugs, the soldier figured that it was only a matter of time before they pinpointed the location on their own. That being said, a metal-armed man climbing through the window of a teenager's room with said teenager bleeding slightly alongside him, was not a comforting sight for Hiro's Aunt. Bucky was immediately smacked with a thick-brushed broom, sending him tumbling over the ledge and flattening out on the hardwood floor. One more swing and Bucky caught the broom, squeezing it tight.

"I'm not going to hurt you," he said, speaking slowly and in a very stale tone.

"Who the- Hiro!"

The brunette immediately released the broom and knelt down, looking over her nephew with worry. "What happened?"

"Hydra is here. The men from yesterday- they work for Hydra-"

"Who are you,"Cass said, sounding suspicious, "Who's Hydra? How did you get in here- how do you know Hiro? You aren't one of his school friends."

"Listen to me-"

"Are you someone he knows from bot fighting?"

"Ma'am-"

"If they're after you, then leave him and get out of here."

"They aren't just after me anymore," Bucky shouted, shifting to kneel down as well,"Your nephew has a lot of heart. Saved me when he didn't even know me. He's here because of me and if we don't hurry, we won't be here at all. They will come back and they will destroy everything to get up here."

The determination on Cass's face caught him off guard. Her green eyes were alight with a fire that could wipe out forests in one breath. He recognized the look and a memory flooded into mind ; a woman with a wooden spoon, hands on her hips, yelling at him and another young boy. It was the determination of a mother and Bucky did not want to be on the receiving end of it.

"We'll just see about that," she huffed, walking to the stairs leading to the lower floors, "Wake Baymax up. He can help Hiro." She descended the steps in a flurry of movement, leaving Bucky alone.

Bucky set the red case down and supported the teen with one arm. He knocked on the case, trying to catch the bot's attention. "Hey," he said, knocking a little harder, "Hey, get out here." Nothing. Not even a faint beeping to signify recognition. Bucky scoffed and turned back to the teen, snapping his fingers in front of his face.

"You in there, kid?" Large, brown eyes flicked in his direction and clarity shined through the dark haze of pain. Hiro tried to move, giving a hiss of pain as he did so. A hand reached up to grasp the sore spot on his shoulder, where the tazer had once been. He grit his teeth, eyes clenched shut as he slid his sneaker against the wooden floor.

"O-Ow."

A faint beeping caught Bucky's attention and the red case hissed as the pieces slid back. White vinyl inflated quickly, the marshmallow form of the robotic nurse manifesting before him. He took a step out, waddling closer to Bucky and Hiro.

"Hiro," Baymax said, voice soft to show signs of concern, "You have an open wound on your upper right shoulder and your nerves are suffering from a post-electric shock. Preferred remedy: bandage and three days of bed rest-"

"Baymax, we don't have time for that," Hiro ground out, hand gripping onto Bucky's arm as he pushed himself to sit up, "We need to set up the house for a defense against Hydra."

"I am not aware of what Hydra is capable of."

"Explosives, super soldiers, guns, knives," Bucky listed, helping the teen sit up. "We're in over our heads. Your Aunt is right, I should just go-"

"It's too late for that," Hiro said harshly, looking over at Bucky, "It's too late. I already got involved, I'm not just gonna shove you out the door to survive on your own because I'm in danger, too."

"Then what's the plan, genius?"

Hiro looked around his room, eyes scanning over the blurry layout of his room.Essentially, they were sitting ducks in the corner house. And while being on the third floor saved them from being seen on the ground, it didn't bode well for a possible missile attack to the top of the house. The middle of the house held the same threat. And the ground level, the cafe, had the threat of Hydra agents shooting through the windows, walking in; and once they got in, Hiro knew they were in danger of being caught physically. He scrubbed a hand over his face, clearing his vision momentarily. His eyes fell on the screen divider between his side of the room and Tadashi's. His brows furrowed as he tried to think. Look for a new angle, bonehead.

"They want to take you alive, right," Hiro said, looking over at Bucky, "These guys. They're gonna want to keep you alive because they need you. Am I right?"

"They want to use me."

"So what if we gave you to them?"

Bucky blinked, squinting his eyes as he tried to process what Hiro had just said. The teen was rising to his feet, palm rubbing his shoulder. Baymax was waddling close, supplies in his large hands. As he got to work on bandaging his patient's shoulder, Hiro looked over at Bucky.

"Hear me out," he said, lifting a hand, "We have you go down the stairs and draw their attention. You pretend you're going to surrender and act like you're ready to comply."

"I'm not following," Bucky said, "You sound like you just want to give me up."

"They'll be too busy looking at you to see Baymax and I coming."

"And what are you and this bloated puff going to do," Bucky asked sarcastically, one brow lifted. Hiro turned to him, giving a gap-toothed grin.

"Baymax."The bot looked over, whirring softly. "It's time to suit up."

* * * * * * * *

Bucky hadn't seen Hiro's suit up close like this. The teen was clad in his armor, adjusting his gauntlet and checking Baymax over. In his glorious red armor, he looked much better than without it. Bucky had to admit, it was almost impressive to know that a child had made all of this possible. Hiro tugged on the bot's arms, the armor hissing as it set into place.

"All right, looks good," Hiro said, climbing on the step-ladder to adjust the helmet on Baymax's head. "Can you see okay? Scanner functioning?"

The soft sound of whirring and devices coming online echoed in the dark garage and Baymax's visor was illuminated blue before it cleared.

"Yes. All devices are functioning and online."

Hiro hopped off the ladder. "Wing test," he said, sticking a pen in his mouth as he reached for a microchip. He was busy in front of the computer, screens flashing with videos of explosions and footage of what appeared to be the Avengers. Bucky leaned closer, trying to catch sight of what Hiro was doing. The gray chip came out of the slot once it was ejected and Hiro looked up at the screen. He drew on the chip an A with a line and a circle; the tell-tale Avengers symbol. He turned to look at Bucky.

"This goes into Baymax's access port and he downloads the data. I did as much searching as I could and this was all I could find on Hydra weapons and Avenger tactics. The rest is up to us," he explained, moving over to Baymax.

The access port opened and the chip cradle slid out. Hiro paused, staring at the green and red chips. He looked at them both with such care and admiration, as if he were proud of where he was as opposed to where he had been. He hadn't had access to the port since the rebuild and he was certain Baymax remembered the mistake he'd made. He hesitated and Bucky was curious as to why. Baymax nodded slowly, blinking his round eyes to reassure his charge that things would be all right.

"I trust you."

"Okay,so we're doing this." He reached up and slid the chip into the third slot, waiting as Baymax downloaded the data.

Hiro grabbed his helmet and unplugged it from the computer in the corner.Bucky was amazed by how many computers this kid had; the whole garage looked like a low-level Stark agency, except messier and somehow more organized. Bucky crossed his arms, watching Hiro screw in a band inside the helmet.

"Did you...call backup," Bucky asked, sounding hesitant.

"Like who?" Bucky's silence made Hiro laugh. "What- you mean like the Avengers? No, no way. We can't drag them in, they'd be all over catching you just as bad as Hydra. Right?"

"...Maybe."

"Don't worry, Bucky," Hiro said, a smile on his face, "Everything's gonna work out."

"Hiro, no offense, but do you really think you two are going to be able to take out Hydra agents? I know we got lucky last time, but we also blew up."

"We won't be alone this time," he said, lifting his helmet and sliding it on. The antennae slid back on their gears and locked into place, the visor dropping down and flashing yellow twice before clearing.

The sound of rattling made Bucky's skin crawl. He looked around the interior of the garage and shuddered as the darkness crept in. He wasn't sure what it was, but it didn't sit well and it sounded like a hundred thousand roaches scrambling across the floor. Tendrils of black coiled up from the trash bins, the corners, the drawers and crates. At least fifty crates burst open as black masses swarmed together to form a towering monster, draping along the ceiling.

"We've got microbots."
