Twenty-Six

His phone blew up for the millionth time that night, he finally ended up turning it on airplane mode as he sat there in Yunho and Yeosang's living room. It was late in the evening, and he was starting to regret leaving like he did and ignoring Hongjoong's calls like a child. But he was hurt damn it.

Hongjoong has been lying to his face about smoking, and although Seonghwa should just get over it, he didn't want his husband having problems in the future due to this. He wanted Hongjoong to be there for their kids in the future, to live a long and happy life. He can't when he's smoking god knows how many cigarettes a day and ruining his lungs and body.

Not to mention, their kids could pick up on this habit and that was the last thing he wanted for them.

"Here," Yeosang whispers, setting some tea in front of Seonghwa and the pregnant male sighs.

"Thanks," he gives a sad smile to Yeosang, the dirty blonde sits down beside him in the living room watching whatever game show is on. He takes a sip of the hot lemon tea, humming at the taste before sighing once more, "I fucked up."

"No," Yeosang shakes his head, "No one fucked up. I mean, yeah Hongjoong had been lying and the way you left was kind of childish-" Seonghwa glares at him and Yeosang raises his hands up, "hey don't give me that look! This is what having a blunt friend is for!"

"There's a fine line between being blunt and being an asshole," Seonghwa narrows his eyes as he takes another sip of tea, not taking his eyes off of Yeosang.

"'Hwa, you know what I mean," Yeosang spoke softly, taking his friend's hand in his and looking him in the eyes, "You have to admit, even though you were upset, the way you left and how you're hiding from him is kind of childish."

Seonghwa's lip wobbles and he nods, "I know," he sobs, "I'm sorry! I didn't know what to do Sangie! We hardly ever fight and I'm trying to keep calm-"

Yeosang shushes him, "Which you're failing to do so now."

"Shut up!" Seonghwa laughs as he cries, wiping his eyes and his nose on the sleeve of his jacket, "I just want to live a long and happy life with him. I don't want him to have problems with his heart or get cancer, or even get pneumonia from this nasty habit. I don't even want our kids exposed to it..."

"I know," Yeosang whispers, gently stroking his thumb against the back of Seonghwa's hand as he listens to his friend, "But you can't hide forever. Especially when little princess is on the way," he grins.

"I know," Seonghwa rubs his belly, looking down at it with a heavy heart as he sighs, "I just... I need a place to stay for the night so I can calm down and gather my thoughts to talk to him tomorrow. You're right, this is being childish and I have kids so I shouldn't be a child, I should be an adult."

Yeosang smiles, patting his friend's knee, "Take a breather from each other tonight. Tomorrow, I can call him or you can and invite him over so you guys can talk."

Seonghwa sighs, nodding, "Thank you Sangie."

"Anytime," he hums, standing and stretching, "Now if you'll excuse me, I think Jongho and Mia are talking and keeping each other awake when they should be sleeping for school tomorrow."

Seonghwa hardly slept that night as he debated between waiting for the morning to call his husband or calling now. He really hated this. He hated fighting with him and he wanted nothing more than to call him and have his arms around him once more.

He bites his lip, picking up the phone and turning it off airplane mode, watching as missed calls, voicemails, and texts flood his phone. All from his husband. He takes a deep breath, knowing everyone was asleep right now for it being only four in the morning, and calls Hongjoong. He didn't have to wait long for a reply, "Baby?"

"I..." Seonghwa starts, trailing off.

"Seonghwa, I'm so so sorry baby," Hongjoong starts sobbing down the line, Seonghwa's own lip wobbles, "Please don't leave me! You're all I have and all I would ever want."

"Joongie," Seonghwa spoke firmly, past the tears and the sobs threatening to break through, "Listen to me very closely."

"I won't ever pick up another cigarette I promise okay? I flushed all of mine down the toilet and-"

"Kim Hongjoong!" Seonghwa spoke more firmly, the full name made the other man on the other line of the phone continue to sob in Seonghwa's ear, "I am calling to let you know I'm coming home tomorrow."

"You are!? Oh thank god, baby I missed you I'm sorry-"

"Shut. Up." Seonghwa snaps, "Listen to me very very closely and I don't want you to interrupt me while I'm speaking to you. When I come home tomorrow, we're going to the store and getting you anything we can get our hands on to stop this nasty habit. I love you, and I don't ever want to see you slowly killing yourself with these things. You mean the world to me, to Jongho, and even our baby girl and she's not here yet!" Hongjoong still continued to cry as Seonghwa sighs, "I'm very disappointed and upset that you lied to me."

"I'm sorry," Hongjoong spoke weakly down the line, "I knew it was wrong of me to lie-"

"Then why did you do it," Seonghwa croaks, swallowing the lump in his throat.

"Because I was afraid you would take the kids and leave me," Hongjoong sobs harder, gasping for air as he sobs, "But you did anyway and I knew I fucked up-"

"You knew very well you could've talked to me and I would've helped you! If you hadn't have lied, we wouldn't be in this situation."

"I know... I'm sorry," Hongjoong whispers, hiccuping as he tries to breathe calmly, "It killed me lying to you. I hated lying to you, but I knew you would be upset-"

"I'm more upset about you lying than you smoking Hongjoong!" Seonghwa sighs, trying to keep calm and speak softly so he doesn't wake the others. He sighs, shaking his head, "Look, I say we both messed up, and now we need to be the adults and fix this. Tomorrow, me and Jongho will be home around noon. When I get home, we will talk okay? For now, I just wanted to call you before you sent out the navy to search for me around the world."

Hongjoong chuckles waterly, "Okay, I'll talk to you tomorrow love."

"I'll talk to you tomorrow," Seonghwa whispers.

"I love you," Hongjoong whispers back, "I love you and Jongho and Jooeun with all of my heart."

Seonghwa bites his lip from smiling as he sheds another tear, "I love you more baby."

Just as promised, Seonghwa and Jongho came back home around noon just as Hongjoong had finished cleaning the house and making a small lunch for them all to eat and enjoy. When Seonghwa caught sight of Hongjoong, he couldn't help himself and wrapped his arms around Hongjoong. Once his arms were around him the best he can do with his large belly in the way, Hongjoong buries his face in his neck and tries to stop the tears from falling.

Seonghwa pulls away, cupping his cheeks, "Let's talk after lunch okay?"

Hongjoong sniffles, nodding and taking Seonghwa's hand in his own and leading him to the kitchen. Luckily Jongho stayed at his mom's house until this was settled, but it still broke Hongjoong's heart. He really wanted to see the boy. They ate quietly, Seonghwa would occasionally break up the silence with a question until finally Hongjoong couldn't take it anymore.

"I talked to someone last night, about my habit," Hongjoong spoke softly, "like one of those phone therapists you see advertised on tv a lot."

Seonghwa raises his eyebrows, swallowing the food he was chewing, "And?"

"I'm going to see about chewing gum more, she said to start chewing nicotine gum first and then slowly move to regular gum," Hongjoong clears his throat, "she also mentioned about talk to a doctor about quitting and getting on some kind of medication that is supposed to help me resist the urge to smoke."

"Well, I don't think we need that," Seonghwa sighs, "let's try the gum, see if that works and if it doesn't, we'll go talk to a doctor about the medication. I'd rather you not get on medicine, but if we have to do it we'll do it."

Hongjoong nods, reaching over and taking Seonghwa's hand, stroking the back of his hand with his thumb, "I'm really sorry I lied to you. Never again. If cigarettes are going to be the reason you take the kids away from me and leave me, I'd rather not smoke at all."

Seonghwa smiles softly, placing Hongjoong's hand on his large belly to feel his daughter kick and move, "I forgive you, just please.... from now on don't lie to me. If you're struggling, I want to know. If you break down and have one, I want to know. Don't ever lie to me again. We're a team now, and you're never going to be alone as long as it's you and me."

Hongjoong slowly smiles, leaning forward and pressing their foreheads together as he takes in a deep breath, "I love you."

Seonghwa smiles back, kissing the tip of Hongjoong's nose and giggling softly, "I love you too. Now," he stands abruptly, holding his hand out for his husband while the other stays on his belly, "Let's go work on our baby girl's nursery."
