"Oh."

Oh. She could feel Gina's heart drop and her hand slip away from a single word. Regret instantly washed over Rosa as she desperately searched Gina's face for answers. The silence felt too heavy.

"I'm sorry." Rosa spoke under her breath, eyes falling to the floor where her feet mindlessly traced patterns into the tiles.

"I thought you liked me," Gina whispered. She sounded hurt and Rosa felt a lump in her throat. She'd known this woman a matter of weeks, why was this so hard?

"I do. I really really do!" Rosa reassured the smaller woman.

"Then why?"

"I'm not the person you want to date, Gina." Rosa put her cigarette out and reached for Gina's hand and guided her to lean against the cool metal bars.

"But you are." Gina stated, simply.

Rosa took a deep breath. "I'm a domestic abuse survivor. I was in an abusive relationship for years and I have PTSD. Until now every time I tried dating after it, everything went wrong. You're the furthest I've got, and I don't want to drag you down with me and end up hurting you." A tear rolled down her cheek which Gina was quick to wipe away. She kept hold of Rosa's cheek and kissed her softly.

She spoke as she pulled away, "I'm not going to force you into anything if you're not ready but just because you've had it tough in the past doesn't mean you don't deserve to be happy now. You make me really happy, Rosa, and I'm really starting to like you. If you're not ready, say the word and I'll walk away. But if this is just because you want to protect me, then I'm sorry but you're stuck with me and my surprise movie nights." Rosa laughed through her tears and Gina smiled up at her:

"I promise you; you're not going to hurt me. Anyone who hasn't had the balls to stick around before is an idiot and you deserve better than that," they looked at one and other. "Let me give you better, Ro."

"Okay," Rosa said quietly before breaking down into tears. Gina slipped her arms around Rosa's slim middle and kissed her forehead.

"I got you. You're okay."
