mentions of panic attacks

-

Not much was going through Gina's mind. Not much other than Rosa. In her defense, she hadn't seen her in just over a week. Their work schedules and social lives weren't exactly playing in their favour of seeing each other. Gina missed her and, as weird as it might sound, she was enjoying scrolling through photos she had of Rosa as she sat in her own salon chair after working all day. They'd only been dating a few weeks and hadn't even made it official yet, but Gina felt something so strong with Rosa, she wanted to be around her every minute she could. Seeing her, hearing her, feeling her. She was so consumed by Rosa it was like a new found drug. The way Rosa smiled at her, ran her hands through her auburn locks when they lay together and oh, the way she sounded with Gina between her legs. It felt dangerous, feeling this passionate for someone she hardly knew. But it also felt so good. She'd spent years of her life going on date after date, coming home disheartened and discouraged every time. It was the same old shit. Boring and not her type or hot but only wanted sex. She felt dirty and used a lot of the time. But with Rosa, with Rosa she felt safe. She felt like she actually meant something and she wanted that feeling forever, with Rosa. She was pulled from thought when Harriet, her co worker, appeared behind her.

"What'cha lookin at, girl?" She looked over Gina's shoulder. "Ohhhhhhh, your hot girlfriend."

"She's not my girlfriend," Gina turned to look at her. Harriet raised an eyebrow.

"Well then fucking make her your girlfriend. Claim what's yours. Especially when it looks like that," Harriet winked and Gina rolled her eyes.

"Perv," She chuckled, shaking her head slightly when her phone began to buz. Her face lit up when she saw the caller ID. "One second Harriet," Gina said getting up and walking away slightly before answering the call:

"Hey beautiful girl."

However, she didn't get the response she was expecting. Instead of a hello, Gina was greeted with a broken sob.

"Ro? What's wrong, my love?" Nothing.

"Rosa?" Nothing.
Panic shot through her quicker than she could even think possible.
"Rosa, honey, i'm gonna need you to try and answer me. Are you at home?"

"Yes," It was a whisper. Barely audible, but just enough for Gina to know where to go.

"Good girl, thank you." Gina said, signalling goodbye to Harriet and dashing out the building.
"Can you tell me what's wrong?" She asked fumbling with her car keys.

"I- I can't breath," Rosa choked out.

"Are you having a panic attack?" Rosa just cried. "It's okay, you're gonna be okay. Stay on the phone with me. Can you do that for me?"

"Yes."

"Good. You're doing so well, Rosa. I'm on my way."

The drive to Rosa's apartment felt longer than usual. The roads felt as though they stretched for days and that Rosa was just out of her reach. She stayed on the phone, though, as promised. Gina continued to speak to Rosa all the while. She showered her with reassurance, making sure Rosa knew she was there and was on her way. And when she finally pulled up to Rosa's building, she dumped her car and ran up three flights of stairs, two steps at a time. Her shoes were defiently not built for it but she didn't care. All she wanted was Rosa. For Rosa to be okay. And it showed. She caught herself banging on her apartment door, calling for Rosa to open the door.

The door slowly opened and Gina was met with a tear strained face, red puffy eyes and a river of mascara finding home on each of her perfect cheeks. She wasn't crying anymore but it was so clear she was far from okay.

"Oh, Rosa," Gina sighed and opened her arms, which were immediately filled by Rosa breaking down again. Gina slowly shut the front door behind them and helped Rosa sink to the floor, following her lead. She leant back against the wall and gently pulled Rosa into her lap and threaded her fingers through the mess of wild curls. She could feel Rosa's heavy breaths in the crook of her neck while she scratches her scalp soothingly and whispered sweet nothings.

"I've got you. You're okay." Gina whispered, her voice laced with comfort and worry. She pressed a kiss to Rosa's temple, breathing a sigh of relief that she could finally feel Rosa calm down.
