Who was he?
"Hongjoong?"
Why did he save me?
"Hongjoooonnggg?"
What was he doing there?
"Hongjoonggggg?"
Who is he?
"Imma 'bout to beat this bitch up- HONGJOONGGGGGGGG!"
"Yohhhhh w-what the fuck?"
Hongjoong was slapped back to reality. He shook his head and quickly looked around, to finally realize that he was still sitting at the school cafeteria with his bun in his hand, half eaten and his coffee getting colder every second, and his best friend and half brother Jung Wooyoung staring oddly at him.
"What the fuck is wrong with you, huh?" Wooyoung scoffed, going back to his own cup of coffee, "I called you like I don't know, a hundred times? But all you were doing was dreaming about God knows who..."
"I wasn't dreaming..." Hongjoong faltered, taking a small bite on his bun and tearing his gaze away from his brother.
"Yah sure sure, says the one whose cheeks are already pinkie pinkie," Wooyoung smirked, his voice in a teasing manner, "Right now Joong, you look exactly like a high school girl who has got her first kiss from her long term crush-"
"Yah Woo, stop it!" Hongjoong snapped, quickly picking up his cup and gulping down his coffee in one go, which tasted absolutely disgusting as it was too cold already. His scrunched up face said it all.
The cafeteria was full. Students buzzed about in the place, chatting and laughing. Every table was taken. It was the recess, and therefore, everyone's favorite. No sooner does the bell ring, than they have to sprint back to classes. Back to books, duh! So naturally, everyone loved the break time. Atleast they got some minutes of freedom to enjoy.
"Hey Woo, hey Joong," A cheerful voice called. Both the lads turned around to see another teenager walking towards their table. He was handsome, but very cute. He had brown hair, soft velvet brown eyes and a gorgeous face with a bright smile. He pulled out a chair and sat down at their table, smiling at both.
"What's up, Yun? You look soooo fresh today?" Wooyoung asked, raising a brow at the boy.
"Bet he took a good shower finally," replied Hongjoong with a light giggle, soon earning a smack on his back from Yunho.
"I shower everyday, unlike you idiot," Yunho snapped. He then turned to Wooyoung and smiled, "It's just nothing. Mingi-"
"Mingi WHAT?" Wooyoung almost screamed, "What did he do?"
"Geez, shut your loud ass mouth Woo, people will hear," Yunho said slowly, "Actually...er...you remember that Prom thing next month? So...um...Mingi asked me to be his d-date there and he-"
Before Yunho could continue any further, all of a sudden, out of an absolute nowhere, Wooyoung stood up from his chair and screamed a loud 'YAHHHH', throwing his hands up in the air and doing a little victory dance. His yell was so loud that half of the cafeteria had stopped their tasks in order to look as to who screamed with such force. Noticing their odd stares, Hongjoong and Yunho quickly grabbed Wooyoung and made him slump back on his seat to save him and themselves from further embarrassment.
"What the heck Woo? What's wrong with you?" Hongjoong asked him, looking at him with utter disbelief.
"Yah dude, you don't understand," Wooyoung explained, seeming nonchalant, "Look. Me and Kim had a bet. Ki-"
"Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Who the heck is Kim?" Hongjoong interrupted, his facial features twisted in confusion.
"You dumbass, it's- Forget it. You don't have to know," Yunho replied, "You Woo, continue."
"Yes, uh...where was I? Oh yes yes. So, Kimmy said that Mingi won't ask him out 'cause he was seeing that...that...what's her name? Fuck! Whatever that what's-her-name girl. But I was hundred and ten and twenty and thirty percent sure that Mingi was crazy for our Yun. And here you go! Now Kimmy is taking me to Starbucks-"
"Excuse me what?" Yunho whisper-screamed, completely taken aback, "You both had a bet on this? That too...Starbucks?"
"What do you think friends are for, huh?" Wooyoung scoffed, looking at him with a glint of mischievous amusement in his eyes.
"I-"
Before Yunho could reply, the school bell rang. The students left the cafeteria and walked back to their respective classes. Yunho waved his friends goodbye and went to his class, as Hongjoong and Wooyoung strolled towards theirs, still bickering.
It was a sunny afternoon, somewhere in the midst of Summer. School was over. The lane down the avenue was almost empty, except a people or two strolling about, which also included a high school boy. He was merrily skipping down the lane, looking happier that ever, as his footfalls echoed in the gloomy neighborhood. That one boy, the always happy-faced lad. Never would you ever see his face without a big gummy smile or his self being lost in gloom. That didn't define him, nah! He was like the epitome of energy, of vibrant youth, a striking symbol of nonsensical silliness yet a radiant joy, of a slight immature and clumsy self yet enjoyment at its peak. Sometimes his friends wondered, where does he get all his weird energy from?
Hongjoong tagged along behind this carefree youth, strolling lazily and walking as slow as possible. Just the typical human sloth he was. His head hung low, his hands deep inside the pockets of his school trousers, and his mind lost amidst the throng of multiple thoughts crammed within his head. He was walking so slowly that the skipping boy in front was almost metres away from him. Or perhaps the other way round. He was walking too fast for him.
"Oyy you old man, walk faster," Wooyoung shouted from a distance, waking Hongjoong up from his daydreams. The blue haired teen quickly jogged up to his friend to catch up with him. As he got closer to Wooyoung, the other boy laughed.
"I say Joong," Wooyoung continued, "I know you since we were barely six. I know well, something's definitely wrong with you since last night. I don't know what it is, but yah, there is something."
Hongjoong said nothing, he just kept his head low, hands now clutching the straps of his bag. His head was still rumbling with thoughts and questions he couldn't quite answer. They kept on repeating themselves, until Hongjoong would probably go nuts. Those same questions...Who was he? Why was he there? Why did he protect me? Why did he...
"By the way, oy," Wooyoung suddenly spoke, breaking the silence, "What about Arson?"
Hongjoong blinked.
"Um...Arson?"
"Don't be stupid Joong, your boyfriend!"
"I-I have a boyfriend?" Hongjoong questioned Wooyoung, or rather himself, confusing both.
It took Wooyoung a few minutes to realise it all and once he did, he slapped his forehead with his palm. He used his magic again.
"Er...nothing. Nothing," Wooyoung faltered, scratching his own head, "F-Forget it. You don't have a boyfriend. I was joking. He he he. Now c'mon, let's go home. Mom is making your favorite soup today, remember? Come, come!"
Wooyoung dragged his brother by his hand and broke into a run along with him, the latter screaming his lungs out and begging him to stop, as his meek voice got almost subdued by the loud, high pitched laughters of the former.
What they didn't know was....
Somebody was watching them.
