SAOIRSE ATE A GLAZED LEMON LOAF ALONE AT THE CAFETERIA. She needed sugar distractions after a long tiring amount of time of studying for this semester's final examination. Today was the first day. She was getting used to it, stressing out for the exams. But not completely alone. Tobias was there, more to mock her attempt to get a good grade than cheer her up. Still, he helped her through her hardest time. She missed him.
She was looking out of place amongst groups of people that day. Not exactly groups, there were some pairs in the crowd. But no one ate alone like a solitaire eagle as Saoirse. She didn't care about it whatsoever. Something that bothered her was the dirty looks she received from the girls who passed by her table. Some were openly glaring at her but there were many of them pathetically snickering behind her back.
At least, it was harmless until a group of four girls approached her and sat next to her table. She recognized one of them was Sara or known as Sara Lee, a pretty girl everyone adored on Instagram with thousands of followers, the standard of beauty presently. Those manicured nails were painted light brown, matching with the color of cappuccino she held.
They were talking too loud like they owned the world. Maybe that was true, they really owned it, eyes were on them since they walked in. A short-haired girl with hanging bangs, which she thought was silly because it was barely reaching her eyebrows, too short, whispered to Sara Lee.
Saoirse felt far from comfortable so she decided to gather her things and get up, leaving her lemon loaf half-eaten. But the short-haired-with-silly-bangs came right before she was about to leave. Saoirse, isn't it? She squeaked.
Saoirse didn't try to look happy. She sighed, clearly she was not growing any interest in a conversation. The short-haired girl didn't wait for Saoirse to respond, her hand already snatched Sara Lee's cappuccino cup, and threw the hot liquid to Saoirse's breast. It was an actual throw, not pouring. When it happened, Saoirse's face was a complete resemblance to a shocking statue. She blinked rapidly to process what was just happening to her. Then she felt her white blouse was damp and the skin beneath the fabric was stinging from the hot liquid.
What the hell are you doing? Saoirse hollered.
That girl, a short-haired girl with the silly bangs, was a total stranger to Saoirse. She didn't even know her name nor the major she took at the university. She didn't know if she was born rude nor life was not treating her right today so she found the liberty to blame it on Saoirse. Funny how it seemed easy for her to humiliate a stranger, making such commotion right before her exams.
Saoirse looked past the now laughing short-haired girl. Sara Lee was watching the entire scene, her eyes were gleamed with amusement to see her friend's bold act. Rude act.
Rubbish, Saoirse spoke under her breath. Loud enough for the short-haired girl and Sara Lee to hear. Seeing her lips twitched into a smile was giving fuel to Saoirse's growing rage. What a coward, letting her friend did the dirty work for her satisfaction.
Saoirse need not any explanation of what was going on or getting further public humiliation. She stormed out of the cafeteria with tears were brimming in her eyes. She would not cry. Not here.
