NORA CLEARY had everything to prove, and everything to lose.

Born the daughter of a Muggle and Squib, her life hadn't exactly been simple. While her parents would call their bloodline unique, Nora's aunt Gertrude, the perfect pure blood daughter of a perfect pure blood family, had ensured that Nora's uniqueness blended in with the crowd. Throughout the seven years of Nora's school-aged life, her only task had been to receive high marks and remain as inconspicuous as possible in the metaphorical lion's den (the Slytherin common room certainly looked the part).

You'll be outcast. They will refuse to associate with you, Aunt Gertrude had reminded Nora on far too many occasions to count. Outcast. Well, fuck that.

And so, Nora had decided at the ripe age of eleven that she preferred the wall, where she would hide herself before anyone could think to outcast her. She would make friends, but few, and receive a high mark in her academics. She would be good, but not great.

Her success, however, even at eighteen years old, wasn't her own. After her graduation from Hogwarts and after securing a job at the ministry beneath the Department of Magical Games and Sports at Gertrude's bequest, Nora still hears her aunt's voice in her ear, commandeering her every move.

Certainly, at the start of the summer of 1994, Nora expects her life to resemble that of the typical, miserable office worker. With the ebb and flow of paperwork for the approaching Quidditch World Cup and the occasional staff-room tea break as her only companions, Nora's life seems to add up to nothing, and she has no other choice than to simply accept it.

Her life runs smoothly, until she's handed a vivid, red envelope detailing correspondence from the Bulgarian National Quidditch team, and her reality flips on her head. The opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to join up-and-coming Quidditch star, Viktor Krum's, personal, managerial staff.

This is it. This is her chance. Nora Cleary, half-Squib, half-Muggle, is going to prove herself — if not to her Aunt and the world, then to herself — if it's the very last thing she does.
