Downtown Street
It's almost six right now and I have left my home for Kafe Korner. I got the report, put on a sophisticated dress and an inkling.
Why is that he wishes to meet me? I could have possibly handed him the report tomorrow morning at school but he wishes to meet at a cafe and get it there!
Now that is irrational.
I would have probably thanked him earlier for his generosity but what he said later was downright unsolicited. But here I am, going to meet him at an obscure yet twitchy place.
From what I've heard,this place- "Kafe Korner"; is for those who are suppressed or sometimes even depressed. Not being conceited or something but here's the clap;
I am 'none'!
Yes, I am a victim of nefarious suppression but I've stood up straight to it and I really don't need to visit places as 'lousy' as that.
I reached the bus station, took the bus and walked downtown. After reaching, I looked up at the gleaming sky. The Sun had turned orange and was painting the world golden. The mirrors of offices and buildings turned kaleidoscopic. The Sun was setting but it was still giving the people a last nod of brightness. The atmosphere was full of iridescent flutters and just when I was going in I saw a winsome silhouette against the dimming sky.
It was just like before. Was it...?
"Hey Cynthia. Is that you?," he said in his deep-husky voice.
"Hi! Patrick.," I replied and walked towards him.
I turned anew to see the silhouette once again but it had vanished; just like a cloud driven by wind.
I entered and sat in front of Patrick. He had acquired a corner window seat. My favourite!
"Well, a corner window seat is my favourite!," he said.
Our thoughts do match. Don't they?
"I see. Lovely. Well, here's the report you asked for.," I handed him the report.
He read it and then he smiled.
"Would you like to have something? A Latte maybe?," he asked politely.
"Sure." I replied hesitantly.
After he had ordered I tried to steal a glance at him and he caught me red handed!
"Something's wrong?" he inquired curiously while looking deeply into my eyes.
"No. It's nothing. But yeah you wanted to talk. Right?," I asked him smiling awkwardly.
"Umm. Yeah. It's about school."
School? Why would he talk to me about school? Does he want me as his tour guide to show him the beautiful hall and the ancient decor that's been put up there?
"Go on." I replied.
" Okay! So why is that they tease you so asperely? Why don't you just answer them and shut them up? Or like; do you believe in what they say?,"
His vehement voice fell into my ears like a drop of clear water that purifies everything. I stumbled to answer. My tongue froze and I could feel my lips becoming cold but then I remembered the silhouette and saw Patrick looking into my eyes waiting eagerly for an answer and that's when I mustered myself up ample to answer.
"Patrick. I'm a normal human being just like you. Being chubby doesn't make me any different from you or from anyone else. But this is something that this impudent society won't understand. In this whole world why are people body shamed for no reason?," I began.
"And then why do we talk about uniqueness when we ourselves desire uniformity? This may sound ridiculous but people roam around like some beauty parameter judging you and scoring you in their heads. Why? That is the ultimate question. But it remains unanswered yet and will always do." I continued and saw him intensely paying attention to each word I uttered.
"Even when I am around people I feel so lost and empty from inside. By listening to their phoney conversations, I don't feel intrigued instead I laugh at their feeble minded thoughts. You're asking me why am I so troubled? I don't really feel like talking to people because of the filthy way they look at me! I don't feel they're worth it and that's no Math's formula." I completed and took a deep breath.
"Okay but forget people you're not even comfortable around those who are of your same age? And why don't you go and tell the world who you are Cynthia?," he asked in his penchant soft tone.
"I have tried to negotiate but do you think they would have accepted me? I am living to understand this world but why hasn't the world tried to understand me!," I told him.
"But no one has ever asked me about myself. About my worries, about my sufferings. Never. Then why are you?,"I asked him agog.
"It's because I see someone in you, who was once like you but now is totally different. And I am someone who's hoping for you to have a happy ending. Just say it out loud sometimes and everything thing will be great. Trust me!," he held my hand while saying that.
"Hmm. Maybe you're right!," I smiled at him.
"Then we're definitely doing quid pro quo," he grinned.
"What?" I asked him easing off.
"You'll know soon."
I could sense how elated he was when he said that.
Then we bid eachother goodbye and walked our ways.
Thinking about the silhouette was it actually what I think it was or was I just hallucinating? I don't know. But I really wish it to be what I think it is.
I reached home, sat down and looked out of my window. The cold breeze hit my face and took all my tensions with it. I looked at the bright moon and all the stars that were shining ravishingly while looking at the moon with their lazy eyes. Leaves of the trees moved swiftly while giving the air it's way to move back and forth. The beautiful night sky took me to seventh heaven.
When I saw that silhouette; what happened two years ago repeated itself in my mind sequentially. I do remember all of it, not even a single day goes by when I forget it.Maybe Patrick is right. If I can say it to him then I can say it to others as well. I just need to be garrulous at times.
Can't I even stand for myself? For my dreams, for my dignity. For the first time I've been made feel like I also have the right to be myself. Live for myself, think for myself; not for others. It isn't hard. Or am I so emphatically blind that I see nothing but a blur version of myself?
