Chapter 1: Her Majesty's Schedule
There's blood spilling from my legs, stomach, and mouth.
Not exactly a day I'd call pleasant.
I'm clutching my ribs from all the pain I received from being thrown directly against a wall and crashing through it, leaving an enormous hole.
I start to get up, but that last hit really left a lot of damage, and I immediately fall back on the floor.
Now completely covered in blood.
I have no other choice, but to try to heal myself before I die of blood loss. "Ugh...come...on..FOCUS!" I try to relax and channel all the energy I have left to call any plants near by.
I find one and ask politely to use it's power. It allows me permission and stretches its stem and roots toward me so I may reach it.
I finally grab on and channel the energy to transport from the plant to my hand, then move into my body and patch up my wounds.
I'm in the middle of the process when I feel a strong grip on my neck and I lose contact between the plant and me.
I'm lifted up into the air and realize there's one hand on my neck and the other, holding a sharp blade, against my heart.
"Heh, thought you could run away from me, huh?" The demon retorts. "Yeah, well what else would I'd be trying to do, dumbass." I say trying to reach out to the plant, hoping the demon won't notice, again.
"Look pretty boy I get your hellbent on trying to kill me, but can we reschedule this for another day? I'm kind of late for something else." I say trying to hold back a fit of laughter.
"You won't be cracking jokes when I'm through with you", The demon angrily speaks to me, strengthening his grip on my neck. "Cenzar!", he yells a command and another demon rushes in and immediately reaches his master's side.
"Yes..sir?" Baffled by the circumstances, the demon's eyes widen as he catches a glimpse of my face behind my hood. "Wait a minute? Didn't I kill you?!" The question brings a mocking snort from my lips and I smile devilishly.
"Yeah, I get that a lot." My response sparks anger to sizzle on the demon servant's face and I enjoy the reaction with half open eyes. "Cenzar! Would you stop standing there, trying to reason with a crazy person, and send for all my familiars!" The demon master barks his commands to his servant and I secretly call out to the plant without them noticing.
The moment the demon rushes out of the room, to do his masters bidding, more and more blood thirsty creatures start consuming the room with numbers.
The hand on my neck and the one holding the blade, that's starting to pierce my heart, hasn't moved positions. Leaving me in a tight hold.
"Alright my pets I have summoned you all to feast upon a meal of high quality!" As the familiars hear this, and see my body drench and stained with crimson, they snarl and growl impatiently to devour me.
"Ahem!" Swept over by a sudden wave of mischievousness, I catch their attention with a fake cough. "I would love to stick around and be the guest of honor, but I have a ride to catch!", I mockingly say and manipulate the air to whirl into a vast portal for me to escape through.
"Ah!!" A striking pain explodes on the side of upper chest and I howl with excruciatingly agony.
The demon master, aware of my escape plan, thrusts the blade deeper into my skin. "Your not going to leave so soon are you? After all the trouble I went through?!"
As he says this I make the magic, I was saving for this moment, inside me boil hotter and hotter until it engulfs my body in flames, burning demonic hands from me and getting an opportunity to escape.
"Please, that's the least of your worries." I say as I dash to the side taking my opportunity.
"Ugh!...HA!..likewise!" He says pointing toward me beckoning his familiars to pounce and finish me off.
I've taken the form of a fire elemental which gives me unlimited access to all kinds of destruction. In other words I can burn these suckers to a crisp!
Which comes in handy, when the familiars start breaking into smaller groups, so I start sending balls of fire straight into their faces and blinding them, which buys me time to hurry to locate my portal.
"CENZAR IF SHE'S NOT DEAD BY THE TIME I PUT OUT THESE FLAMES IT'S ON YOUR HEAD!That is if I let you keep it!" I can vaguely make out their conversation, but quickly ignore it as I dash for an escape.
The remaining familiars, or at least the ones that survived, come crashing down on me from above causing me to break more of my ribs.
"GAH! Damn, not the ribs again! Would it kill you to spread the pain around!?" I scream hysterically as I change form and turn into a yeti.
Letting the foreign monster take control of my body, my human features morph and I quickly change into the Himalayan beast. Channeling the power of the monster, I try to control the cold force to create extremely thick icicles.
Ice shoots from my fingers and I quickly impale my attackers the moment they come in proximity.
Covering me in their blood.
"Ew..gross..this stuff is like slime! It's so liquidity.." I cautiously try to get up, stepping on chunks of meat, when I see something in the corner of my eye.
"CENZAR!?" I yell as I widen my eyes and watch the annoying demon race after me. Shocked that I didn't kill him from all the icicles and fire blasts I sent earlier, I scowl and think of another scheme.
"Ha! Thought I was dead, huh?" The demon slave says while breaking the top of an icicle and throws it quickly in my direction.
Ah!" Watching the icicle fling towards me, I wave my hand and a wall of ice protects me. "I've had enough of this!" Cenzar hisses as he races towards me.
"Yeah, I've felt like that all day, but you don't see me complaining!" I say standing against a wall for support, clutching my stomach, and concentrating on my next move as Cenzar gets closer towards me.
"My master's tired of playing with you and he wishes to throw you away!" Cenzar says as he launches himself on to me.
But only ends up passing through me.
"Heh, well if your going to throw me away, just remember this Einstein..."
I lean closer toward his ear and whisper in the most terrifying and darkest voice I could conjure up to finish my sentence.
"You can't kill what's already dead."
Then I leave him dumbstruck as I float away to freedom.
As I'm looking back on my success I channel the very last bits of my energy to complete the process of making my portal home.
Passing through a portal is pretty relaxing. It's quiet, calm, and peaceful. Perfect place to think actually.
Especially when you're stressing out about something! As I'm loosing all the tension in my muscles and start to doze off, I see a faint light that gets bigger and bigger every time I blink.
Then in the next moment I'm crashing into my bed.
"Owwww! Okay, that HURT!" I start rolling over my bed and start squirming like crazy. "GAH! Stupid demons..! I didn't even get a chance to properly heal my damn self!" I force myself out of my bed and stumble into my living room.
*RIIIIING*
I'm leaning against a wall for support while I hear a blasted noise coming from the kitchen.
"Ugh! What now!? I say dragging myself toward the house phone. I pick up the phone and answer it with sluggish movements. "He..hello?" Speaking in a groggy voice, I try to sound as if I just woke up.
"Where the hell are you?!" Recognizing the familiarity of the voice, I lose the feeling in my knees.
"Uh..heh..This wouldn't happen to be Mr. Sullivan..would it? Hehe..." I say in a sweet, timid voice. "Your late for school! Goddamn it, if you don't get here soon people will get suspicious!"
Feeling the tension in his voice, I try to calm the situation down.
"Look Dr. Spas, nobody is going to get suspicious if I'm just late for first period. If anything they'll probably just think I overslept, okay." I say as I scramble to find a plant.
"Sure, the teachers and students won't think much about it, but what about your other guardians watching from a distance!" He remarks back.
"Oh yeah! Ha..I forgot I was grounded.." I say as I stand next to my window healing myself from a plant I bought the other day, remembering recent events.
I had gotten grounded because of lack of safety methods I didn't bother to use during a couple of fights ago. "Young Mistress! Can you please act as if your a little concerned about this?!"
I'm done healing myself and I casually walk toward my room to find my uniform.
"Elliot, I am worried about my situation and I'm grateful to have one of my butlers looking out for me by disguising himself as one of my teachers, however you're an overreacting and overprotective freak. Need I say more?" I respond as I walk out of my room after getting my uniform and begin to make my lunch.
"Young Mistress, Siva and I thought this would be for the best. Having one of your staff cover for you and help you lie out of a situation when your powers have involved you is necessary." Elliot beg isn't o lecture me again, and I roll my eyes as I grab my bag.
"Yeah sure, what ever helps you feel better." I remark sarcastically.
"I don't have time to reason with a crazy person, so I have to hang up before my class is over, and I recommend you to hurry!" Elliot says the moment I'm out the door.
As I lock my apartment door I realize something. "Damn! I forgot my keys!"
I face palm my forehead and grumble under my breath. "Ugh!..I can't catch a break today.. First it was the broken ribs.." I start complaining when I use my magic to transform into a ghost to pass though my door. "Then it was the lecture!..." I walk toward my counter and grab my keys with aggressive force. "..and now this!"
Walking out of my apartment, I walk toward the elevator. Once I hear the ding, I hurriedly walk outside, but when I see a bulldog eyeing me suspiciously I come to a halt.
"Oh screw you! I'm not CRAZY!"
Having felt satisfied to have justified myself, I leave my apartment in a huff.
~
I hop out of my car and rush to my 2nd period class while secretly trying to avoid Elliot, until I hear a loud, booming voice.
"Elizabeth! You'd better have a good excuse for being late!"
I slowly turn around hoping whoever it is will let me off with just a tardy. "Oh! Principal Brooklyn! Fancy meeting you here, how are you doing? I can see you've started to grow some hair!"
Mr. Brooklyn's face turns completely red after I've made a joke about his bald head. I muffle my laughter as I notice his style of clothing. His gaudy suit and green-striped bow tie never appeal to his old, chubby appearance.
"Young lady, I would recommend you to show a little more respect or you'll get into much more serious trouble in the future!" I listen to him talk as he starts spitting in my face and lecturing me at the same time.
"Ahem, Mr. Brooklyn?" I wipe a drop of spit off my cheek as I address him respectively.
"I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but I should really get going before I miss anymore classes, sir." Speaking in my perfectly mannered voice, I smile and fake my innocence.
"Huh? Oh right! Yes, you should get to class before I change my mind about letting you off the hook!" He says spitting into my face some more. "Yes of course, sir! Have a great day!" I say waving goodbye.
When he's out of sight I remark once more.
"Asshole."
I start walking toward my locker and once I reach it I sort out my things and prepare for my next classes. I'm halfway done when I hear a familiar voice.
"Yo, Elizabeth! Why you late?" My friend Asjha waves at me holding stacks of paper in hand.
She's a great friend, she's 5'8 has a simple style and she has black, short Afro hair. She's also dark-skin colored, but she's still gets annoying sometimes.
"Oh, sup Asjha! What do you got there?" I say praying that it isn't what I think it is.
"Homework and all the classwork you missed dummy!" Asjha says handing it to me.
"Ah, thanks, but you can take that back!" I say desperately.
"Oh no! Please take it as a token of my appreciation!" Asjha sarcastically says to me.
"Mm... I don't like you.." I say sulking against my locker. "By the way you might want to look out for.." Asjha starts to say, but I cut in.
"For a middle-aged, bald and short, chubby man? Yeah, it's too late for that." Obviously, I was talking about principal Brooklyn, but Asjha was looking at me confused.
"What? No! Not the principal, I'm talking about the strict, asshole Mr..."As I listen to Asjha I put away my book bag until she's interrupted by a deep, angry voice.
"Who exactly are you referring to Miss Maiden?" I automatically recognize the voice and stop dead in my tracks.
"Holy mother of merciful.."
I whisper to myself until I practically throw myself into my locker and try desperately to squeeze in.
"El..Elizabeth?! Get out of there right this instance!" Elliot says as he swiftly tries to keep myself from closing the locker door. "As..Asjha!! Help me!" I say shrieking as Elliot almost hauls me out of the locker. "I'm not helping you! I didn't get you in trouble DID I?" Asjha says as she walks away.
"Traitor!" I say when Elliot has already pulled me out of the locker.
"That don't mean nothing!" Asjha says in her mocking slang tone that I hate so very much and walks away.
"Well! Now that your done with your temper tantrum we can finally begin!"
I turn to face him and I notice he's wearing business casual clothing and has his blonde hair slicked back, to keep his bangs from being a distraction, which of course makes him look good.
Well, technically he always looks good. That's probably one of the reasons the female students never seem to leave him alone.
Although, they're probably more interested into his muscles and facial features rather than his other admirable traits.
But what would you expect? He is a vampire, but to speak from experience not all vampires are attractive, so basically Elliot is just in shape to be able to protect me.
Then after all my daydreaming, I suddenly snap out of my daze when Elliot yells at me.
"Young Mistress, I have important news for you from Siva." Elliot says and pulls me into a corner, so nobody else can ease drop on our conversation.
"Ugh. Not this again..whatever it is, I DIDN'T DO IT!" I say raising my hands up above my head in surrender.
"Young Mistress, this is serious. I have gotten word from Siva that there is a rebel band of misfits scheming an assault on you." Elliot says and I can't bother to hold back laughter after hearing him say the word 'misfits'.
"Haha..oh please like I can't handle a couple of rebel wannabes. Does Siva honestly think I'm that helpless?" I say laughing to myself after hearing something so ridiculous.
"Young Mistress, please listen to me! Siva's concerned because he's the steward butler, that is the highest ranking possible and to top it all off he's your guardian! Of course he's worried! Especially since it's a lot of pressure keeping the queen of two kingdoms safe at all times!"
Of course I've heard this lecture a thousand times before, so I try to quickly change the topic. "Yes, I know! Jeez, I really can't catch a break today..." I say sulking to myself.
"...but back to the point! What exactly is about these rebels that's got your panties in a twist?" I say obviously trying to anger Elliot.
"What's so important about these rebels is that we're not sure if they're even rebels at all.." Elliot says as I'm satisfied that my insult made him spill the truth, but confused at the same time.
"What do you mean you're not sure if they're rebels? Civilians in my kingdom who try to go against me are CALLED rebels are they not?" I say with my famous smart ass gist.
"Young Mistress, I am aware what a rebel IS, but besides that we cannot decide if these rebels are even monsters and/or fairytale creatures. There fighting style, teamwork, and orderly fashion is quite strange...it's as if they're only motive is to cause chaos and agony."
The moment Elliot states his concerns I start to get a little suspicious myself.
"So, your saying these guys are complete morons and they're after me for some unknown reason, correct?" I say summarizing the report as best I can.
"Ye..yes I suppose." Elliot says, but I notice he's starting to tense up.
"What's wrong?" I say concerned and aware that he only tenses up when he senses danger.
"Hmm...I don't know why...I don't see anything out of the ordinary..."
As if on cue we both spin our heads around to the sound of an irritating voice.
"Mr. Sullivan! Would you care to explain why a teacher, as for yourself, is spending time alone with a student?!" I start to panic when I realize why the principal would assume something like this.
Seeing that I'm alone in a corner whispering to my teacher.
"Oh, sir! Please do not misunderstand..!" Elliot composes himself and handles the situation coolly. "...I was merely just giving my student news, in private, that could have embarrassed her to have announce in front of her peers."
I let out a sigh and I think to myself how much I'm grateful to have Elliot here always looking out for me like a big brother.
"And what exactly were you discussing?!" Principal Brooklyn, obviously not convinced, is starting to lose his patience, but I stay calm because I'm confident Elliot will get me out of this situation.
"Oh! See I was going to..." Elliot scrambles for an answer.
"...I was going to tell her she..she..has detention!"
I completely froze.
"Wh..WHAT?!"
I shriek with anger and surprisingly I notice Elliot trying to hold back a laugh!
Damn! This must've been his form of revenge for all those insults I've told him!
"Grrrr...I'll get you for this!" I say growling at him. "You will do no such thing Elizabeth! You will take your punishment and walk away with the little dignity you have left!
As I hear the principal say this I have no other choice but to just walk away in defeat. "Yes sir." I say grumbling under my breath.
"Oh Elizabeth! Don't forget to finish your work, it's for a grade!" I hear Elliot say mockingly and I turn around to point the finger at him, but he only laughs even harder, obviously more amused than offended.
The principal escorts me to the other side of campus and dumps me at a dark hallway. "Hm? That's odd..why aren't the lights working?" I also consider this and automatically know why.
"Uh..who knows! So, I'll just walk to detention myself and you can go back to whatever perverted thing you were doing!" I say with an amused smile on my face.
"I'll let that one slide since you already have enough on your plate, but next time I'll have you polish the windows in the cafeteria!" He says spitting into my face as he talks before leaving.
"Asshole."
I say in response to his threat and walk nonchalantly to detention aware of whom is lurking inside. I continue to walk toward the only room in the hallway and finally reach it.
"Well, get ready to go through 2 hours of complete and utter agony, Elizabeth..." I say to myself, but I don't mean detention.
I finally open the door and I hear a slow creaking sound then I walk toward the middle of the room to sit in an empty desk.
"Good evening, my lady."
I look to my right and make eye contact with one of my loyal generals.
"Likewise, general." I say respectively.
"Milady, we have urgent news from the kingdoms about our main enemy."
I look to my left to listen to the other general.
"But more importantly there are also issues about The Kingdoms, your majesty."
I turn around to find another general behind me. Then I notice the room I had stepped into earlier was no longer empty as I expected, so I stood up and I addressed them firmly.
"Listen, I know it's your job to report everything to me, but I would prefer if you did so with a little more organization." I say with my hands on my hips and with perfect posture.
"Our sincerest apologies, my lady. Alright! Generals of monsters line up on the left side and generals of fairytale creatures line up on the right side, but in an orderly fashion!"
When everything is in order I'm finally able to discuss with them properly. "Alright monster generals explain what issues you have dealt with." I say and all of them take a moment to think.
As they're preparing themselves I take a moment to realize there are only 6 generals on the monster side and only 2 generals on the fairytale side.
Then I remember what Siva had taught me before.
He explained to me that since monsters had more diversity than fairytale creatures they needed more leaders to keep them in order, which is why the monster kingdom was split into 6 sections and given 6 generals.
However, the fairytale kingdom only needed to have been divided into 2 sections and given only 2 generals, but of course the generals weren't the ones ruling the land because they were following MY orders.
"Your majesty, we are ready."
I snap out of my daze and I give them my full attention.
"Go on." I say and they continue.
"You already know our main enemies, the demons, have tried to overthrow us out of power by causing mayhem and destruction to make our citizens question our methods and authority. The demons have tried countless times and we have defeated them countless time as well, but for some reason they're usual attacks have decrease tremendously from the past few weeks."
This confuses me.
"Alright well what's the issue here? Don't you think they have just given up because they know we cannot be defeated?" I respond.
"That is one possibility, but we are more concerned about the reason why in the beginning they would send their most strongest kin to invade us, but now they only send their most pathetic and worthless."
I'm intrigued about this myself and then I get a very sick feeling.
"If you ask me I feel as if they're mocking us." I say and continue. "Maybe they're scheming something and they're mocking us to let us know it's beneath us as well." I say sick to my stomach wondering what's going on inside their demonic minds.
"If what you say is true, my lady, then we have to be on high alert." The general's face turns grim as does mine.
"Well, what other issues should I be concerned of?" I turn around to face the other generals.
The general from the fairytale kingdom speaks first. "Your highness, I've come to report news about your wellbeing." She says a little pale in the face as she speaks to me.
"Have you received your daily news from your vampire butler, miss?" When she says this I remember what Elliot had told me earlier.
"Yes, I do. It has something to do with an attempted assault on me involving rebels, correct?" I finish and she continues.
"Yes, but we've recently discovered that they're not rebels, since we've found no proof of them belonging to The Kingdoms. Anyway, I recently handled that attack with the unidentified beings and I also interrogated them. They had told me they believed you had gone to Wonderland for a visit. Therefore, they planned an attack in the mansion, you usually stay at, in hopes of your murder."
I'm dumbstruck by this new information. "Wait, why would they think I went to go visit Wonderland? I have no business there at the moment." I say asking politely.
"You see, my lady Siva had gone to Wonderland for business reasons and the criminals assumed you'd be with him since he is your guardian."
I finally understand.
"That's right my citizens believe I'm always at the castle and they also know that where I go Siva goes too." I realize that the only ones that know this secret are my generals, staff, and a chosen few.
Siva thought it would be better for me to stay in the human realm, so I could finish my studies. Although I do have to spend a lot of time in The Kingdoms to keep people from getting suspicious.
Of course, the only way for Siva to have accepted this was to send other staff members to babysit me.
"Well, even though we have interrogated some truth out of them it still isn't enough. We still do not know who sent them and why."
I consider this for a moment.
"Well, I think you've played nice long enough. In other words, I want you to torture the truth out of them with any means necessary. I herby give you authority, so use it wisely." I say confirming it.
"Now anything else?" Some of the other generals nod their heads and I spend another hour resolving their issues.
Yeah, I was right about the 2 hours of complete and utter agony.
When everything has been settled, the generals take their leave. "It was a pleasure to have been given your wisdom, my lady."
I've had enough of this.
"Oh, cut the crap! Give me a goddamn hug already guys!" I say aching for them because they are not only my generals, but they were also my high school buddies.
"Damn Liz! I sure missed you!" I hear remarks from my friends and I can't help but cry.
"Wow! who knew my queen was such a prissy?!" I hear them laugh hysterically. "I don't care! I just missed you guys so much!Remember the days back at our paranormal high school where we could be freaking crazy?!" I say bringing back old memories.
Back at high school, instead of humans, I had tons of fun with my monster and fairytale classmates 24/7. Although Siva only allowed me to spend my high school experience with monsters and fairytale creatures since he didn't want my human side to fade because it made me different.
The kind of different that The Kingdoms needed now.
"Well, it's been fun you smart ass, But we gotta get going before Siva gets on our backs too!"
It pains me to see them leave, but I regain my composure and bid them goodbye with a positive attitude.
"Awe! Come one let's keep talking about Siva behind his back! You know you wanna!" I say pleading. "Sorry Liz, but we got to go, but don't worry will try to hang out more from now on. We can tell you missed us.."
I'm very satisfied with this and my monster and fairytale friends leave me with a sad smile on there faces.
"Oh, right! Elizabeth the Mad Hatter says 'Hi'!"
I hear my friend say as she passes through the portal I made.
"Tell him if he ever stops being crazy, I'll murder him and tear him to pieces!" I say wholeheartedly.
Then I'm left alone again...in the cold, empty detention room.
"Heh..I get it now..Elliot gave me detention so I could spend time with my friends...I guess I was missing them.." I say as I silently forgive Elliot.
Then when I'm done with my homework I notice it's time for me to leave detention. So, I leave the building and walk to the school's parking lot where I find my car.
I hop in and drive back to my apartment after I've bought something to eat. When I've arrived I get out of my car with a drink in one hand and my food in the other.
I take the elevator, since my apartment is on the highest floor. I look around to see if there's anyone around, so I can transform into an arachnid and use my multiple arms to hold my food, drink and keys while I try to unlock the door at the same time.
"Ah! Finally it's all uphill from now." I say cheerfully about the fact I can finally relax from a long stressful day...
or so I thought.
