~ Five years old~

"Okay honey! Me and your dad are going out for the night. Be good with Ms. Smith. Don't cause her too much trouble." Mommy tells me grabbing her phone and bag. "Oh don't worry Mrs. Grant. She'll be no trouble at all!" Ms. Smith says. "Alright darling, let's get going. See you later Red." Daddy bends down and gives me a hug and kisses me on the forehead. "Bye mommy and daddy!" I wave at them while they get in the car and drive off. Ms. Smith closes the door and I go up to my room. I get my little step stool and go to my closet. I step up on the steps and reach to grab my box. I get it down and sit on my bed. I open it and pull out my little notebook and start writing in it. I start to write different poems and lyrics.

After two hours, I step back up on my stool and put my box back in the closet. I close my closet and soon see blue and red lights flash outside my window. I go over and see that policemen are outside my home. I walk downstairs in my little slippers and see Ms. Smith let the policemen in.

"Why are you visiting at this time of night?" Ms. Smith asks them. They look at each other and then notice me in the room. The first policeman bent down to my height. "Hey there, little missy. My name is Officer Tom." He says picking me up. "Hi Officer Tom. What are you doing here?" I ask him. He turns back to Ms. Smith and looks sad. "Well I hate to tell you guys, but Remedy's parents got into a car accident and........died on impact" He says. "Where are mommy and daddy?" I ask not understanding. "Well, mommy and daddy are sleeping." He tells me. "Just wake them up." I say. "No we can't. They won't be waking up anymore." Then it finally clicked and my face went blank. "I'm sorry but it looks like we are going to have to put Remedy in a foster home." He says. I just look. I see the second policeman cause he haven't said anything. I recognize his face. "Uncle Dan?" He was daddy's best friend. He looks towards me with watering eyes. I reach out for him and Officer Tom let me down. Officer Dan picked me up and hugged me. "Where will I live now?" I ask. "Well we can look for a ho-" Officer Tom gets cut off. "I'm going to adopt her. It's what Dave would've wanted." Officer....Uncle Dan said.

After that day, I've been living with Uncle Dan. I went over to my best friend's house that night and stayed with her until Dan got the adoption papers situated. We have been best friends forever. Jackie and I are like sisters. We do everything together. I'm protective of her and she of me. I am Remedy 'Red' Grant. This is my story.
