TWENTY: THE MONSTER

After thirty minutes, Wyatt began to tap his foot, jittering around, holding his hands together and checking his watch. Moving around while Mike had El's head on him.

After fifteen more minutes, Wyatt became even more of a paranoid wreck, so much so that Mike and El noticed.

"Wy?" El softly whispered.

"You okay?" Mike asked.

"Uh....yeah?" Wyatt shaked his head, giving them a small smile. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"Friends don't lie," El reminded him, "Sibling figures never lie."

Wyatt lowered his head, "I just feel worried..."

"I'm worried too, Wyatt," Mike said.

Wyatt sighed, "I just feel like I'm about to break, Mike. After all of this and....I-I'm scared, like majorily scared at this point Mike. L-like something is about to happen."

"Wyatt," Mike spoke. "Nothing bad is gonna happen, remember if we all stay together we'll be fine."

Soon enough Dustin and Lucas came back inside, both with irritated and confused faces.

"The hell are Nancy, Jesse and Jonathan?" Dustin asked.

"Yeah, and where's Miss Jones," Lucas added. "The parking lot is empty."

"They're gone." Mike clarified.

"They're probably just sucking faces somewhere," Dustin shrugged nonchalantly.

"Gross," Lucas exclaimed, as Wyatt pulled a disgusted face, trying to deny the image of Jessie making the gross activities.

"No! No way," Mike denied. Wyatt can't blame him, especially seeing as Nancy didn't seem like the type to get horny in a dangerous situation like this.

"I thought her and Steve were dating," Wyatt muttered, furrowing her eyebrows.

"He's an asshole," Lucas said, "They probably broke up."

Wyatt shrugged. "Did they go with the chief?"

"Sidney is," Mike said. "The others are going to fight that monster..."

"Wouldn't they have told us?" Wyatt asked.

"I guess they thought we'd try to stop them or go with them," Lucas explained.

"Son of a bitch," Dustin sighed.

"This is crazy," Mike exclaimed, waving his hands around. "We can't just wait around!"

"That's insane!" Wyatt exclaimed, "We can't just leave! And if we try and follow mom and the others, we'll get caught!"

"Either way!" Mike shouted, "If we stayed or left we would all just as likely get caught and we can't stay here!"

"Mike, in case you forgot, we're still fugitives!" Lucas said loudly, taking Wyatt's side on this. "The bad men are still looking for us!"

"Yeah, and we don't even know where your sister is," Dustin added.

"El can find them," Mike tried to reason, but it met deaf ears.

"Mike, look at her!" Wyatt exclaimed, almost sounding protective. "She's cold and miserable, most likely tired! We can't take out of her any more than we already did!"

Dustin nods, "Yeah! I still think we should stick to the chief's plan."

"Exactly," Lucas said, all three of them going against Mike's idea. "We stay here, keep El out of sight, and keep her safe. That's the most important thing, remember? Besides, Nancy's okay. She's with Jonathan and Jesse."

"Yeah, and those girls are kind of badass now, so," Dustin added, as though that settled it.

Dustin then walked out, "I'm getting some chocolate pudding. Who's with me?"

Wyatt opened out his hand and so did Lucas.

"I'm hungry now," Wyatt admitted.

"Aye, and that lunch lady Phyllis probably does hoards it somewhere."

"I wonder why," Wyatt questioned, clicking.

"Are you serious?!" Mike yelled at them.

"El needs to be recharged," Dustin reminded them as Wyatt flew past him towards the doors. "And we want pudding!"

It took a while but the trio of followers of the Party found the pudding through their adventures in the kitchen.

"Aha!"

"Well, I'll be damned."

"Lying bitch! Mike, I found the chocolate pudding!"

The three grabbed the pudding, and each of the three had a whole handful of them. Then, the doors to the cafeteria burst open, and Mike ran in, "Guys! Guys!"

"That yell is not a good sign," Wyatt muttered.

"What is it?" Lucas asked, setting down the can of pudding he had.

"They found us."

Wyatt threw down his pudding, and he was certain that the others probably did as well.

"How did they find us?" Lucas asked as he practically launched himself down a small set of stairs.

"I don't know," Mike huffed between breaths," But they knew we were in the gym."

"Lando," Dustin commented.

"No no no!" Wyatt shouted, his fear and frustration slowly taking over once more.

As if to provoke his worries even more, the exit doors they were heading towards burst, and a bunch of men decked out with bright flashlights came flooding in.

The group took a halt and changed directions running back up the way they came. Wyatt and Mike held onto El as they turned to an open door on the left, only to be met with more lights, the curly-haired boy slowly losing his breath

"Freeze!"

"Back!" Mike yelled. "Go!"

They took a backtrack down the hall and took a left, but were met with an older and mean-looking woman rounded in the corner with even more men behind her.

Wyatt held El with him as he looked behind them to see more men. His breathing halted as his eyes shut, knowing there was no way out.

The woman in front of them clicked the safety off of her gun and took aim, making Wyatt's stomach drop as he shook his head.

'She's not gonna actually kill kids right....oh god...mom..'

This was it.

However,

the lights above them started to flicker, and Wyatt noticed something come out of the lady's eyes as he opened his eyes after minutes of flickering and odd silence. It started coming out of her nose, and the same thing was happening to the men behind her. But then it hit him on what it was.

Blood.

They all collapsed at the same time, just as the lights stopped flickering.

Next to her, Eleven took a deep breath.

"What just—" Wyatt started, but was quickly cut off as Eleven toppled over sideways, straight into him. "Whoa!"

Wyatt caught her before lowering both of them down on their knees for rest Mike kneeled down next to El on her other side as the other two rushed over.

"Is she okay?" Mike asked.

"Something's wrong," Wyatt answered, wiping the blood off El's nose.

"She's probably just drained," Dustin tried to reason. "I mean, look at what she did."

Wyatt turned, part of him felt a sigh of relief but was scared. But it was mostly for the one he called his sister wasn't waking up.

They were killed but El saved them.

"No, no, no!" Mike said quickly, shaking his head. "She won't wake up. El!"

Wyatt sniffed in fear, grabbing Mike's wrists and pushing them away from El, shaking his head. He closed his eyes and touched El's pulse on her wrists to feel a sign and while everyone looked a bit confused, Wyatt opened out his eyes and turned towards his friend, "I...I think she's okay but she's barely breathing!"

"We gotta go!" Lucas hissed at them all. Wyatt nods before grabbing onto one of El's arms.

"Leave her."

Wyatt froze while the other boys jumped into action. They sprang up onto their feet, stepping over Wyatt and Eleven to stand in the way as four men round the corner.

The one leading them was the man who was Dr. Brenner and when their eyes met Wyatt felt something vaguely familiar but then he locked his gaze onto El, making Wyatt hold onto her tightly.

"Step away from the child," Brenner told them in a stern voice.

"No!" Mike exclaimed. You want her, you have to kill us first!"

"That's right!" Dustin said.

"Eat shit!" Lucas hissed at the men.

Wyatt didn't say anything, holy continuing to hold onto El as the unfortunate men came from behind and grabbed his friends. They all immediately start to yell and thrash in the men's holds, and Wyatt more tightly pulled El up further onto his lap, glancing between the struggling boys and the approaching doctor.

"We'll take her from here, Jones," Dr. Brenner said to him softly, kneeling down next to the pair.

Wyatt tearfully hugged El to his chest, unwilling to let her go, not really caring how he knew his name. "Get away!"

But it wasn't that simple as one of the men walked up and grabbed him, pulling him away despite how many times the timid boy would try to break out of his grip. Wyatt screamed, struggling as Brenner grabbed El by the head.

"Eleven?" Dr. Brenner asked, "Eleven can you hear me? Eleven?"

Wyatt watched as Eleven lifted her head ever so slightly and said something that only the man could hear.

"Yes, yes," the man nodded with a relieved smile. "It's your papa."

Papa?!

They all yelled and fought, trying to get out of the men's arms so they could help Eleven, who looked to be in a lot of distress. But the doctor hushed her quietly like she was a toddler and whispered some words to her but she simply stared back at him.

For a second, Wyatt was scared that Eleven would go with the man. That she wouldn't protest and she would leave with him willingly, leaving the rest of them here to either be thrown in prison or killed.

But then Eleven shook her head slightly and mumbled just loud enough for the rest of them to head, "Bad."

The man paused for a moment, staring down at Eleven with shock and confusion. Bad was simply all that she repeated as she pulled her arms away from him and back towards the boys. "Mike. Wy."

Of course, Eleven wouldn't leave. That was stupid of Wyatt to think. But his moment of relief was short-lived when they heard a certain noise as the lights start to flicker.

Wyatt glanced around with the others, still being within the men's grip as the hall cast into the darkness for a few seconds, and once they flickered back on. Wyatt felt more fear course through his heart.

He questioned what now was happening. He knew it couldn't be El, she was too exhausted. But that could only mean-

"Blood," Mike said suddenly. Wyatt furrowed his eyebrows, looking away from the man's stare in favor of watching Mike.

"What?" Lucas asked.

"Blood."

Wyatt jumped as a loud thud echoed through the hall, coming from the end behind him. He tried his best to whip himself around as best as he could out of the men's grasp. All the while the wall at the end of the hallway, the one with the big paw print that said CUBS on it, was cracked. There was another thud, and then it cracked further, growing longer. The ground shook and dust fell from the fissures.

Wyatt at this moment felt more fear than when he and the boys were about to be shot, feeling his chest tighten and his knees shake while dread filled his heart and thoughts as something was coming through the wall.

"Move back," one of the other men said, they shuffled a few feet backward, dragging Wyatt along.

They didn't get far though, before something burst straight through the wall, spraying rocks everywhere. Some sort of horrific look hand, not at all human, burst from the stone.

And then came ahead. Some terrible head with a face that almost looked like a flower that had yet to bloom, but a lot more scary and a lot less colorful.

It broke through the wall completely, and the men that were holding Wyatt dropped him off as they attempted to go for the guns.

Wyatt got up and quickly walked across the men as it stared at his side of the room, along and pale, with long limbs and no eyes, and Wyatt was paralyzed.

All of the men stepped in front of her, guns blazing, and she watched as their bullets did absolutely nothing. It might be delaying the monster, but it wasn't killing it. When it was hit it merely jerked backwards and kept moving without a second to spare.

It was terrifying.

Wyatt didn't move until his name was shouted, "WYATT!"

Wyatt's eyes filled with tears as he took steps back as the monster began massacring the soldiers, particularly on his side as the boys grabbed El from the other side.

"WYATT! RUN!"

"G-guys," Wyatt whimpered in fright, "It's skimming through them! It's gonna get me!"

"Go through the other room!" Lucas suggested, "We'll meet you at the cafeteria! RUN!"

Wyatt slowly nodded before running through the hallways. The soldiers continued to shoot as he kept running as the lights start to flicker in pitch black. He could hear the monster's roars and barks that seem to draw near. It felt to him that he was feeding off his own fear and he had much of it, especially after so many times of bottling it up for the sake of finding his friend, this is what he was led to.

Wyatt quickly found a hallway full of classrooms, trying to inside each but found that most if not all of them were locked shut. He turned to see the monster quickly gaze at him at full speed. Wyatt's heart rushed as his blood cells froze. The monster lunged up towards him but Wyatt's survival instincts kicked in and he ran in quick speed, not once looking back, not once stopping to take a breath. He ran and ran and ran until he found the doors back to the cafeteria.

Rushing inside, he quickly tried his hardest to push the doors open, the monster rushed directly at him. Luckily for the young Jones, he quickly opened it and shut it tight.

Wyatt took a step back, staring at the little window into the hall. He could still hear the creature's small growl, slowly trying to make its way to its prey. The place started to slowly terrify him, the room being dark and cold, the monster slowly letting out creepily noises as though it was close near...literally close to him. It felt like there was nowhere to run, nor where to hide.

He was completely alone.

He couldn't breathe and for what seemed like a while, he even started to cry. Feeling vulnerable and powerless as the inevitable seemed to approach closely.

"Oh shit, shit..." Wyatt muttered, closing his eyes. "I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die..."

Wyatt couldn't scream out - not wanting the monster to follow his sounds. He stood hoping that El and the others could come, the sooner they were here, the better.

'Mike where are you? He's right there!'

'Please anyone!'

'Don't leave me here..'

'Lucas! Dustin! El! Mom!'

He then notices something,

The room was silent. There wasn't any sense of noise. No growls, footsteps, or loud banging. It was just pure silence.

Wyatt stayed for a moment, feeling like this wasn't the end. But after that moment and when the silence was still there, he felt like a sense of weight off his shoulders.

He slowly sat up and took a moment-

BANG

-something tackles him from behind, sending him flying across the table. Wyatt slowly picked himself up and in a dashing glimpse, the Demogorgon was already in front of him, its hard cold fingers gripped around his neck.

Wyatt felt fear as he felt his face nearly getting torn apart, he continues screaming and crying to the point where he couldn't realize that the Demogorgon was pushed away.

"Wyatt!" Lucas yelled, rushing towards his friend on the floor, who whimpered to his knees sobbing. "Wy, you okay?!"

Dustin rushed forward at Wyatt, beginning to push his hair out of his eyes as he grabbed his glasses, only for the boy to squirm and scream, trying to push everyone away.

"NO! NO!" Wyatt cried loudly, as though every panic and anxiety that was held back was being let out at once. "LET ME GO! LET ME GO!"

Wyatt constantly yelled that as Lucas grabbed him, despite Wyatt's attempt to push him back as Dustin let tears fall at the state his close friend was in.

"Wyatt, hey, hey," Lucas spoke softly. "We're here now. We said we'd be here and we're here."

"Yeah man," Dustin tried to reassure him. "It's okay."

"YOU LEFT ME!...I was scared and that...that demon..."

Wyatt continued to sob, his panic getting the best of him as all he could see is that monster about to maul and fully devour him alive. His mind couldn't even make him aware that he was crying more than he already was. Feeling more afraid than ever like this was something that he was made for. To be killed by some monster. Wyatt shook his head, muttering 'no' as his nerves continued to go sore.

"We would never let anything happen to you. We're here. You know we wouldn't do that," Lucas tried to reassure him by pushing his hair back and rubbing his shoulders which somewhat calmed his nerves.

Suddenly this moment of comfort was cut short once the monster stood back up, letting out a terrifying roar.

Dustin stayed by Wyatt while Lucas and Mike went through Lucas' backpack. "Get the wrist rocket! Get the wrist rocket!"

"Get it out now!"

"Get the rocks!" Mike shouted. "Get the rocks!"

"Getting the rocks!"

"Give me one!" Lucas demanded.

"Go!" Mike yelled. "Go! Kill it!" He was able to grab Wyatt and have him move behind him, the latter keeping a firm grip on his jacket, afraid to let go.

"Fire! Fire!" Dustin yelled.

Lucas pulled back, almost like he was firing a bow n arrow, and let the rock fly, which bounced off the monster.

"It's not gonna work," Wyatt whispered underneath the roars and shouting.

"Give me another one!" Lucas cried.

"Kill it! Kill the bastard!"

"Go! Go!"

"It's not going to work!" Wyatt said, shaking Mike's shoulder desperately.

"Kill it now!"

Lucas pulled back again, and the second rock is as useless as the first.

"Get another rock!"

"Kill the bastard! Come on!"

"It's not gonna work!" Wyatt shouted again.

Lucas stopped for a moment, listening to him as he took a realization that these rocks weren't even hurting the Demogorgon.

"Hit him again!"

"Kill him!"

Mike and Dustin constantly yelled at Lucas, however, pushing the boy to actually try and kill the creature despite the futile efforts. Just as the Demogorgon opened its mouth when a sudden force sent the monster flying backward. It slammed into desks in chairs before smashing into the wall at the front of the room.

The boys all stumbled backward at the sudden motion, and Wyatt let go of Mike, turning her eyes to Eleven.

She was sitting up, her dark eyes trained on the monster as she slid off the table with the bloodshot in her eyes and veins contrasted against her skin.

She moved past Wyatt but Mike moved forward and grabbed her arm, muttering her short name out of his lips. But before he could say anything else, Wyatt felt himself alongside the boys moved across the room, all four were frozen still as she walks towards the monster.

Wyatt's eyes' panicked, shaking his head as he watched El use her powers to pin the Demogorgon against the wall, the creature squirming as she got closer. The lights flickered on and off and she around around to face them for one last time,

"Goodbye, Mike. Wyatt."

Before she turned back forward.

Eleven raised her hand level to the Demogorgon's abdomen, and the noise it let loose was terrifying, the screech rippling through the air, and the monster's chest was ripped open to reveal a faint white light. It looked like it was being dissolved into ash, flying around in a cloud until it enveloped El herself into it.

When it dissipated with a final scream, Wyatt heard nothing as the ash faded away until there was nothing left.

As the boys dropped to the floor, they began to look around only to rarely find any trace of the monster.

There was nothing left.

No Demogorgon.

No Eleven.

She was gone.

And Wyatt and Mike both felt themselves held onto each other tears roaming through their eyes at that realization.
