Chapter 46

Chris walks into the living room. He sees Adam and Avi sitting on the couch with bored looks on their faces as they stare at the t.v. set. Austin was lying on the floor staring mindlessly at the ceiling. Tim was sitting next to the window, there was a book laying in his lap but he was gazing out the window.

"Yall look a little bored." Chris chuckles.

"Oh, you think?" Austin giggles.

"It's a beautiful day. We could always go to the park." Chris suggests.

"That's better than sitting here watching a movie that we've seen at least a million times." Avi laughs.

"Can we have a picnic?" Adam asks.

"Sure. That sounds good." Chris says.

They head to the kitchen to make sandwiches. Chris had bought some containers of potato salad, macaroni salad and slaw. Austin grabs the paper plates, cups and plastic utensils.

Everything was being handed to Tim, who packed it neatly into a box. Avi fixed a cooler of water, soft drinks and a gallon jug of sweet tea.

Soon, everything and everybody was loaded into the van and headed to the park.

Once they arrived at the park, they found an unoccupied picnic table and unload the food from the van. No one was actually hunger right then so they decided to play around a bit before they ate.

Austin had brought a frisbee so he, Adam, Chris and Avi went to a clearing to throw the frisbee around.

The more Tim watched them run and play, the more depressed he got. His eyes burned as he glances around the park and sees other families running and playing.

He had been a cripple since birth. He would have thought the hurt would eventually stop. But it hasn't. Cause at the moment, he felt like such an outcast. He wished he had just stayed at home.

He quickly turns his chair around so the others wouldn't see him wipe his eyes. He sees a beautiful lake not far away. Several ducks were swimming and playing around in the water.

He begins to roll himself down to the lake.

"Look mommy! A cripple." A little girl says.

"I know, honey. Don't point." The mom says, pulling down her daughter's arm.

Tim lets go of a sob as he rolls out on the pier. Tears roll down his cheeks as he looks between the boards of the railings at the ducks playing around in the water.

Adam runs over to the table to get him and Avi some water from the cooler.

"Hey, guys?" Adam calls out to the others. "Where's Tim?"

"How could I have been so thoughtless." Chris says as he glances around for his fiance'. "We came here to have fun, and what did I do? I left him."

"There he is." Austin says, pointing toward the pier.

"Why would he wonder off like that without telling anyone?" Austin asks as they make their way to the lake.

"Tim suffers from depression quite often. Anything can trigger it." Chris explains. "And I guess him sitting there watching everyone run and have fun, triggered it."

Tim hears footsteps on the wooden pier and quickly wipes his eyes.

"Sweetheart? You alright?" Chris asks as he squatted down next to Tim's chair.

Tim looks away as Chris squats down but nods his answer.

"Tim, you had us worried." Chris says.

"Really?" Tim says in a doubtful tone.

"Look at me." Chris says as he reaches and takes Tim gently by the chin to turn his face toward him. It was then that he could see that his lover had been crying. "Oh, Angel. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have left you."

"I didn't want to spoil your fun." Tim says looking down at his hands.

"But I want you to have fun too." Chris says, taking Tim by the hand.

"What about the swings?" Adam asks as he squats down on the other side of the wheelchair.

"I've never swung before." Tim answers quietly shaking his head.

"Your parents never swung you on a swing set when you were little?" Avi asks.

"No. I was too much of a problem for them." Tim answers.

"Well, I think we all need to go to the swings then." Chris says as he stands up and begins to push Tim's chair toward the swings.

"Uh, I don't know about this Chris." Tim says in an unsure tone, looking up at his lover.

Chris laughs and kisses him on the forehead.

"It'll be fun. I'll push you." Chris says.

"But I'll fall out." Tim says.

"No, you won't, Tim." Austin chuckles. "You hang onto the chains."

"I don't think this will work." Adam says once they get to the swing set. "The swing is too low. His feet will drag."

"I think I can fix that problem." Avi says as he begins to climb up the swings set.

"What are you doing?" Adam laughs.

"Adjusting the chains." Avi says as he easily adjusts the swing's height. "Got it."

"Austin, hold the swing still." Chris says as he wraps his arms around Tim. "Adam, can you move the chair when I lift him up?"

Both guys got into position, Austin holding the swing and Adam ready to move the chair.

Tim wraps his arms around Chris's neck and nods. Chris lifts him up and Adam quickly moves the chair out of the way.

Austin held the swing steady until Chris sat Tim in it. Chris chuckles as he has to pull Tim's arms from around his neck.

"Sweetie, hang on to the chains." Chis smiles.

"No! They're dirty." Tim says, drawing his hands to his chest.

"Austin, grab a couple of his gloves from the pocket of his chair." Chris says.

Adam had sat down in the swing next to Tim and Avi was in one next to Adam. They were already swinging pretty high.

Tim watches them with a frightened look. Austin hands him his gloves then gets in the swing on the other side of Tim.

"Please, don't push me that high." Tim pleads. He looks around at Austin to see where he had his hands on the chains.

"I won't, Sweetie." Chris says, kissing him on top of the head. "You ready?"

"Bout as ready as I'll ever be." Tim says, gripping the chains for dear life.

Chris begins to push him lightly. He figures that once Tim gets the feel of it that he would want to go higher.

"Tim, you rode the rides at the amusement park like a champ. They were scarier than this." Austin says.

"Yeah, but I was strapped in. I couldn't fall out." Tim says.

"You alright?" Chris asks after a few swings.

"Yeah." Tim answers. "But this is a little boring. Can you push me a little higher?"

"Hey, you kiddos having fun?" Rob asks as he and Chance walk across the park toward them.

"Well, Hey." Chris chuckles. "How'd yall know we were here?"

"Austin texted me." Chance smiles as he starts to push Austin in the swing.

"Since we are all present and accounted for." Rob chuckles as he reaches into his suit pocket. "I have an announcement to make."

"You and Kelsey had sex?" Tim asks with a chuckle as Chris begins to slowly stop his swing.

"What? That's none of your business, Timmy Boy." Rob laughs as he pulls something out of his pocket. "I have in my hand, eight tickets to Libertyland. Anyone interested?"
