Chapter 39
"That one is perfect. He'll love it." Avi says with a huge smile.
"You sure?" Chris asks as he looks closely at the ring in his hand.
"Yes, I'm sure. I'm just so excited that you're finally going to ask him." Avi says.
"I've been wanting to for some time now." Chris says as he continues to look at the engagement rings. "I just never got the nerve. I love him so much, Avi. I'll probably start crying if I keep talking about it."
"Awww." Avi chuckles. "Y'all do seem perfect for each other."
"My heart still skips a beat whenever I look into his eyes." Chris smiles.
"Stop, or I'll start crying." Avi laughs. "So? When you gonna ask him?"
"I'm not sure. Soon, though." Chris says. "I want all of you guys there when I do."
"So, does he have a favorite restaurant?" Avi asks.
"Yeah, as a matter of fact, he does. It's a small seafood restaurant down on the wharf." Chris smiles. "He loves crawfish and says that they have the best crawfish there."
"Well, there's your answer." Avi chuckles.
"You have to promise me that you won't tell a soul, Avi. Not even Adam" Chris says as they walk up to the counter to pay. "Adam and Tim tell each other everything."
~~
"On one of our anniversaries, he brought home a bottle of champagne." Tim says with a smile as he bit his bottom lip. "And we took a bubble bath together. Sounds cheesy, I know. But, God, it was so romantic."
While Tim was talking, Chris and Avi walks in, unseen by Tim.
"Chris just knows the right things to do to make me feel good. I miss him whenever we are apart. I feel like a part of me is missing." Tim says.
"Uh, Hi, Chris." Austin smirks.
Tim's eyes widen as he stares at Austin. He slowly turns his chair around as Adam and Austin begin to giggle.
"Umm." Tim says, looking up at his smiling boyfriend with a look of a puppy being scolded. "This is an embarrassing moment." Speaking softly.
"What were you saying, Tim?" Avi chuckles as he sits down beside Adam, putting his arm around him.
"Nothing." Tim says quietly, hanging his head to hide his reddening cheeks.
Chris smiles as he squats down in front of Tim taking him by the hand.
"That's Okay, Angel. I feel the same way." Chris says as he kisses the back of Tim's hand.
"Really?" Tim smiles.
"That's true." Avi laughs. "I've never seen anyone pick out paint that fast before. He just wanted to hurry up and get back home."
"Awwww." Austin pouts, wiping an imaginary tear. "That's so sweet."
"Shut up, Austin." Tim chuckles.
"What do you say, we all go out to eat tonight after Chance and Rob get home?" Chris says, rubbing Tim on the cheek.
"Where?" Tim asks.
"What about that restaurant at the wharf that you like so well?" Chris smiles, giving Avi a quick glance.
"Really?" Tim asks, a huge smile coming across his face. "I love that place."
"I know you do." Chris says as he leans in and kisses Tim on the forehead.
By the time Chance and Rob got home from work, the others were already dressed and ready to go. Rob was already dressed nicely from his job at the bank but Chance had to take a quick shower and get dressed.
"So what's the occasion?" Chance asks as they drove toward the wharf.
"Just thought it would be nice for us all to go out. We don't do it very often." Chris says glancing up into the review mirror at the bearded man.
"Oh, just thought I'd let y'all know that I won't be home until late tomorrow evening." Rob says, out of the blue, from the passenger seat.
"You got a meeting or something?" Chris asks, glancing around at him.
"No, as a matter of fact, I, Rob Lundquist, have a date." Rob says with a huge grin.
Chris almost swerves off the road.
"No sh*t?" Tim asks with a smile.
"With who?" Adam asks.
"Her name is Kelsey Koerselman. She's head of the loan department at the bank." Rob says.
"Does she know that we are all weird?" Austin chuckles.
"I've told her all about you guys." Rob laughs.
"Oh, that's not good." Tim says as he looks out the window.
"No, actually, Timothy, she's excited to meet you guys." Rob says as they pull into the restaurant parking lot.
"Well, we'll be sure to be on our best behavior." Adam laughs.
~~
The waitress shows them to a table in the outside eating area. They had a perfect view of the docks. She takes their drink order and walks away from the table.
"This is an awesome place. I've never been here." Avi says, resting his arm on the back of Adam's chair.
"The food is awesome." Adam smiles as he leans into his boyfriend.
"Rob, maybe you can bring Kelsey here. It's very romantic." Chris smiles, taking Tim by the hand.
"I might just do that." Rob chuckles.
The waitress delivers the drinks. Chris, Tim and Chance ordered beer while the others ordered tea. She takes their order and then leaves again.
Tim reaches into the side pocket of his chair and pulls out a pair of gloves and lays them on his lap.
They carry on an idle conversation as they wait for their food. Asking all kinds of questions about Rob's date, Kelsey.
Soon, the food arrives and the conversation stops as they eat in a comfortable silence. Tim slips on his gloves before tackling the plate of crawfish before him.
"Wow, this lobster is amazing." Avi comments as he dips some in some butter.
"Can I have a bite? I've never tried the lobster. I always get the fish." Adam says.
Avi holds his fork over for Adam to take a bite and then places a soft kiss on his lips.
"That's really good. You want to try my fish?" Adam asks holding the fork up to his lover.
"Ummm, that's awesome. Good and flaky." Avi smiles.
"Everything they have here is good." Tim says as he peels another crawfish.
Rob breathes out as he rubs his stomach.
"I can't eat another bite." He chuckles.
One by one, they finished their meal and the waitress clears the table. They order another round of drinks and just relax as they watch the boats coming in and out of the harbor.
"It would be so cool to have a house sitting right here." Tim says to Adam.
"Wouldn't it, though." Adam smiles as they watch a shrimping boat leave the dock.
"There goes Bubba Gump." Chance laughs.
"Baby?" Chris calls softly to get Tim's attention.
Tim smiles as he sees Chris on his knee beside his wheelchair. He was totally oblivious to what Chris was doing because it was common for him to kneel down by his chair.
"Yeah?" Tim answers with a smile.
His smile begins to fade and his eyes widen as he sees Chris pull a small black velvet box from his pocket.
Everyone at their table and the tables next to them, had their eyes glued to the couple.
"Baby, I love you so much. I don't ever want to see my life without you by my side." Chris says.
Tim smiles nervously as he glances up at the smiling customers at the next table. He looks back down at the ring box and back up into Chris's eyes.
"It would make me the happiest man alive if you would be my husband. Timothy Regan, the love of my life, would you marry me?" Chris smiles as he opens the ring box.
Tim lays a shaky hand across his mouth as he fought to catch his breath. His eyes glued on the beautiful ring that Chris was holding.
"Breath Tim." Adam whispers to Tim as he gently rubs him on the back to help calm him. This was not the time for a panic attack.
Tim smiles as tears fill his eyes.
"Yes." He whispers quietly and nods as he still tries to calm his breathing.
Every customer in the restaurant along with the employees begin to clap and cheer.
Tim breaks down into heavy sobs as his fiance slips the beautiful engagement ring on his finger.
