Chapter 9

He circled the table I was sat at with an amused expression on his face. He looked relaxed and loose now, but I knew from experience that in a split second he could turn into a monster. after all, that's all he was, a monster.

"How'd you find me here?" I ask again, fear slipping into my voice very much against my will. To show him fear was to give him satisfaction.

"Well, would you believe me if I said that this meeting is totally due to chance? You probably would've never seen me again if your stupid plane hadn't crashed on this island." He responded.

"I don't believe you. Not even for one second." I spit at him.

"Oh, well that was definitely not the right answer, was it?" He comes closer and took a strand of my hair in his fingers, almost carelessly. I flinched. "Ahh, I thought we had something special." He frowns at me with a fake puppy dog frown, one I've seen too many times, so much that I knew what was going to happen next.

All of a sudden, he stoops forward again and slaps me. "Don't disrespect me again, I thought you had learned your lesson from last time, or do we have to repeat that?"

I shook my head and he pretends to lunge at me, I couldn't help but flinch again. He knew that he broke me before and he could do it again.

"Now ask away, any questions you want, and then you'll have to answer mine. Got it?"

After awhile I murmur a quiet "Yes"

"Good" he inclines me to start asking away, and after hesitation I do.

"Where are we?"

"A private island in the Philippines."

"Where are the others?"

"The gray room most likely."

"Why'd the plane crash?" I finally ask the question I'd been itching to know since I got here. And I knew it hit home because for once he seemed lost for words. For once he looked at me with interest, like I'd finally done something right.

"Now that's the question I've been meaning to ask you. None of the others know what happened, but all their stories have one thing in common, you. They say you were in the cockpit when the plane initially crashed. One even claims to seeing you walk in there with another girl that didn't make it. Did you crash the plane?" he inquires, actually interested if I had become anything like the monster he is.

"No!" I immediately say, but then I rethink my response and say, "No, me and Zoë went in there because she noticed that all the adults were gone. We took the controls to try and get the plane under control, but we crashed here."

"Ooh, well you see, I don't believe you. I mean, how could they all disappear like that? You'll need to sell me a more convincing story or we might go back to where we started."

"That's what happened, I swear! Please, please! It's what happened!" I plead with him, I swore that I would never go back, I'm never going back, not again, I couldn't take it again.

"Ahh, I'm just messing' with ya. It's fun to see you squirm and squeal. We actually happen to know what happened to them, but we're not telling you. Not yet." He looked into the double mirror and made some sort of signal. The next moment someone else walked in and he walked out.

It was a woman who walked in, also dressed in the uniformity of white that seemed to be everywhere. She simply motioned me to follow her out and into the hallway, so I did. When we walked out, I was able to catch a glimpse of the people exiting the room next to the interview room. I was able to see the back of a familiar blonde right before we turned another corner.

When we reached our destination, a light gray door with scratches on the handle, the woman spoke to me, "You will be staying in here with the others until further notice, and don't try anything stupid, we have cameras all over this place."

And on that happy note she opened the door and pushed me in. I tried to turn around, but she slammed the door so hard on my back that I just ended up in some sort of awkward twisted fall.

"Payton?" I heard someone ask in a loud whisper. I was able to turn myself over into a sitting position and finally look at everyone in the room. It was all of us that had initially crashed on the island with me, well all except for Amy and Collette. I was pretty sure Collette wasn't going to make it, the way those doctors had been talking about her before told me she was a goner.

"Guys?" I say, whispering too. I couldn't believe it. A small part of me thought they were all being tortured or something in a deep cavern. Seeing them all here made me feel a little bit better.

"We all thought you were dead." A familiar voice admits to me. I notice Lauren on the side, looking a bit awkward. Well of course she is, she's in a room full of boys that just happens to be really dark.

"If it means anything, I kind of thought you guys were being tortured somewhere." I say in reply, now feeling stupid and childish for such outrageous thoughts.

"After most of us woke up, we were interviewed. He moved on pretty quickly when he found out that we really knew nothing of importance for him. What we could tell he really wanted was for you to wake up, he was really eager to talk to you" Brandon says.

I bet, I think as I debate whether I should tell them what I know, but in the end I felt Brandon come up behind me and whisper to me, "What's wrong?" that was the tie breaker, they obviously knew something was wrong.

"Guys", I start. "I know who he is, who he really is."

"Who?" Julian and Patrick say at the same time.

"You must all promise if we ever get out of here to never tell another living soul, okay?" after they all promised me, I started the story.
