Prologue

[incoming communication]
[establishing connection]
[receiving message]

Tom was casually sitting at his desk searching the channels of his radio, looking for some useless conversation to eavesdrop in on (sure, he worked for NASA, and sure he was supposed to be looking for signs of foreign spacial communication, but he had long given up hope).

He heard a sudden static of noise when--

"Hello? Is this thing working? Can anyone read me?"

Tom wondered who it was. Why would anyone call him like this? It was probably some kid messing with him. Nonetheless, he would answer (it was more interesting than what he was doing before, anyway).

"Yeah, I read you." He gave a slight yawn as he checked his watch. 10:43. There were still another 7 hours in his work day.

"Oh, thank God! It's so good to have human contact! It's been hours!" Now, this got Tom slightly confused.

"Who the hell is this?" Okay, maybe be was coming off a bit rude, but he wanted answers.

"Heh, right, right, sorry. I should've started with that. I was just so excited to get a response to my signal. My name's Jordan. I was a... an astronaut onboard the starship Mianite."

Oh. Tom was definitely not expecting that.

"'Was?' What happened to you?"

"O-our ship crashed on some moon. I have no idea where, though. I managed to get an escape pod, but I couldn't tell if anyone else made it into one." Tom was genuinely feeling bad for this guy (which was rare, as Tom didn't feel pity for others often).

"My IEVA suit sensor tells me that the air here is breathable, at least, so that's nothing short of a miracle. But I've got no food or water rations on me. The toolkit on the pod is as basic as they come."

Tom recalled looking at the blueprints for newer escape pods. It was true; they had very basic toolkits.

"I managed to get the pod's mobile transmitter working, but -- lucky -- you, you seem to be the only one in range of signal. Whoever and wherever you might be."

"The name's Tom. Tom Cassell." Tom gave a warm smile, albeit to no one, just knowing that he might have possibly made a new friend (which let's be honest, he loved having friends).

New story! :D

If you didn't read the description, this is heavily based on the game Lifelife, by 3 Minute Games. It uses majority of the dialogue in the story (so, spoilers beware if you plan on playing it). (I'll go back and edit this in a couple hours; it's formatted weird on my computer.)

I hope you enjoy it so far! Lemme know :)
