XXIX Luck in misfortune...

- What happened to you? - As soon as I entered the living room I was attacked with the first question.
- After I was bitten, I started to lose consciousness until I blacked out. As it turned out I woke up after several hours, not minutes as I thought. - I didn't mention Hekate to the rest of the brigade either. The tattoos haven't shown up yet, and I still need to do some studying. Her fumbled message, doesn't reassure me that the prophecy is true at all.
- Are you all right? - I drifted off in my thoughts and only heard the last question.
- What? - I woke up. Confused, I looked around at their worried faces. - Yes, everything is fine. I just got a little lost in thought. - I sent them a weak smile. You're not lying? Are you sure you're okay? I heard the black-eyed man's words in my head. His attention was completely focused on me as I looked at him. I widened my smile and sent him a wink, at which he visibly relaxed. I must get to the library, because curiosity started to eat me up. After a few more inquiries, the chance to sneak out of the room came. I quietly snuck to the exit. When I was able to exit unhindered, I rushed straight into a room filled to the brim with books. Right next to the door sat an elderly lady behind a desk without a hint of a smile. When she told me in which section and row I would find the things I needed, I got away from her as quickly as possible. I shivered at her humor. I headed at the proper floor and groaned in my spirit. Four rows of various books and parchments piled up endlessly before me. Though I remembered something... Hekate had told me that the prophecy was written when I was born, so I must search by my birth date. That makes things at least a little bit easier. But I still have to search through all the stuff from the eight hundred and twenty-second year... Oh boy... Well, okay. I get to work immediately.

I have hit upon a luck in misfortune. I'm glad, because my first language was Old Norse, so I'll understand everything written in this book. My face crumpled as this tome is over a thousand pages long. It's hard to say, but if I spend all night here and don't find anything, I promise I'll burn this useless book! I took a deep breath to calm down. I would never take a book beyond the threshold of this room, let alone set one on fire. A book is a book, I appreciate its value, so I would never do such a thing. I settled myself comfortably in one of the armchairs and opened to the first page, which turned out to be the table of contents. Hallelujah! Someone thought of making life easier for others and, while rewriting, decided to make a summary of the chapters. I flipped through the pages to the appropriate date and after a few pages of dry facts I reached the part about the girl born in zero. Oh mother. This is about me. I was born during an eclipse that was referred to as zero by our village because it was the first ever seen in our lands. Intrigued, I eagerly delved into the reading. I was mostly interested in the beginning of a certain sentence. In free translation it is more or less something like this: "Zero alpha female. An irrepressible black warrior who follows her own paths and suffers much during her life. Returning to life, her reign will have no inconsistencies, and her abilities will exceed all expectations after the one thousand five hundredth year of her existence. She will restore..." at this point, the text disappeared, as if there had never been a continuation at all. Restore what? A human being? An animal? I can't do such things. This is some kind of mockery. I was about to close this nonsense when I noticed that several pages had been torn out of there. I squatted down in my chair once again and stared at the letters. There was only one word visible on the piece at the top, so even if I wanted to know what it said I wouldn't know. I put the book back in its place and snorted. It's all bullshit, so why should I believe it? I have never heard about it. There must be some mistake on Hekate's part, and this volume is a fairy tale written by a person with a rich imagination. It can't be otherwise. I left the room, leaving the information I had just read in the same place where I had obtained it.

I took the elevator to the top floor and went straight to my bedroom. It was already quite late, reading took me longer than I would have liked. It was time for sleep, which my whole body was already demanding. I fell on the bed and sighed with delight. So good. At this point, I didn't even have the strength to take a shower. I closed my eyelids and allowed myself to drift off to dreamland.

Dear daughter... The truth is the truth... I have accompanied you since birth as a spirit guide... Hekate allowed me this contact... After speaking with her, you were reborn to complete the prophecy for which time is now beginning. The first alpha woman... You will unite worlds when the need comes... Know that someone is always watching over you... Dear daughter... Remember me...

I woke up covered in sweat. I replayed the dream in my mind and realized that there was nothing terrible in it. But this person's words must be true. So Hekate was right, because the second person had already confirmed the prophecy. I sat up on the bed, taken aback. What am I supposed to do now? I have enough of a blockbuster life for the next millennia. Then all of a sudden some super duper prediction and BOOM! I'm some above average kid who is the key to the goddess' prophecy. I thought luck left me a long time ago... Apparently now it comes in a cumulative portion....
