XX Straight To Hell...
I woke up in the middle of the night with a silent scream on my lips.... My heart was racing, my eyes were jumping from one point to another, and my arms and legs were tangled in the bed sheets.
- Hey, hey, it's okay. I'm right here. - I heard Adrian's hoarse voice next to me and felt him pull me to him. I pulled away from him, throwing his arms away. - Calm down. You are safe.
- You... - I said with a tight throat as I stifled my sobs. - Aren't you afraid of me? - Who would want to deal with a beast like me? He laughed at my words, which made me startle.
- Why should I be afraid of you?
- Because of what I did. Because I was a ruthless soldier who obeyed orders. I could come at you at any time and hurt you. Tell me, are you still not afraid? Does it not bother you who I am? What kind of monster have I become? - I started babbling on and on and on.
- Honey... I have no basis on which to base my fear. I know you won't do anything to me. I may have said some unkind things earlier, for which, by the way, I sincerely apologize, but I want you to remember one thing. You will never, ever be a monstrosity in my eyes. Sometimes you have to go straight to hell and come out of it. Even if along the way you think you can't do it. It creates us inside, but at the same time, it proves that you have endured the impossible and can finally find happiness and joy in life. Everything that happens to us has a purpose. It has something to teach us. Fate knows perfectly well how much we can withstand and sends us things that it knows we can handle. If not, we learn from our mistakes. - He finished, and I ran out of words. All I could do was kiss him passionately.
**********
We had been kissing for ages and he had just pulled my shirt over my head when someone ambitiously started knocking on the bedroom door. Annoyed, he reluctantly pulled away from me an inch to growl at the newcomer:
- What? - He did not hear an answer, so he went to the door and opened it impetuously. I blushed at the sight of my older brother. My hair was in disarray, my T-shirt had sunk into the ground somewhere, and the chestnut-haired man had also planted one somewhere along the way of our intense kissing. Good thing I was wearing a sports bra. Apparently, when the boy brought me here he didn't dare to change my clothes, so I fell asleep in what I had been wearing all day. Kjartan raised one eyebrow, but said that he did not want to know anything about what he saw. He shook his head and began to speak:
- Forgive me for disturbing you at such an inhuman hour, but I wanted to let you know that Espen woke up. - I jumped out of bed and snatched some shirt from the ground before rushing to the elevators. I determined by the smell that it was the black-eyed man's missing shirt. I pressed the button, but when I saw that the elevator was on the third floor, I rushed to the stairs. I ran down two steps at a time. I finally got out of the building and headed for the hospital building. I flew in there in a march and was met with stares from the sitting nurses and other werewolves, but I didn't care. However, I accosted one lady in a white uniform to tell me where to find a room with my twin. She immediately told me the first floor, room forty-four. I moved forward with a confident step, and when I reached the door, I hesitated. What am I going to tell him? I hesitantly grabbed the handle and then rolled my eyes. What doesn't kill me makes me stronger. The boy raised his head at the sudden movement I caused by opening the door. He saw my person in the doorway and stared at me for a moment. Finally, his green eyes shone.
- Old Lady? - he asked in our original language, to which I nodded and smiled widely. He always talked to me like that. Even though we are twins someone had to be born first. In this case, I was the one with the greater need to go into the world and I was born a few minutes before him. He always complained about it, but eventually gave me that nickname and started making fun of it. He returned the smile and I timidly walked over and sat on the edge of his bed.
- So... - we started at the same time, with the same word, to which we burst into laughter.
- Good to see you sis. Come here. - He opened his arms for me, so I hugged him tightly.
- It's good to see you too, you little brat.
**********
We were chatting so much that we were surprised by the entrance of eight people. Why is everyone here at once? The boy had just regained consciousness.
- Can we interrupt? - We muttered something under our breath in confirmation. I got off the bed and was immediately locked in someone's embrace. I tensed up, but after a moment I realized it was just Adrian. He laid his head on my shoulder, in the hollow of my neck, and I began to relax. I could feel his warm breath on my collarbone, which made me shiver. Seeing this, he laughed softly.
- I wish the reunion of your family could be different, more peaceful and pleasant, but unfortunately conditions are as they are. - said John. - We also have to ask an important question that will change things. Do you know what exactly happened to your parents? - I got restless. Parents. This is a very distant term for me. It sounds very strange.
- We would like to know. After the separation we saw them maybe three times with full consciousness. Unfortunately, I don't know if they were in the same building with us. The only evidence of their existence is our father's ring, but I doubt it will be of any use. - Kjartan said.
- The help of a kind individual will surely be of some use. - Daniel looked at me. I know exactly what he means.
- No. - I hissed.
- Why not? We used it from time to time.
- But never for free. - I concluded, and he shut up. Everyone listened to our conversation without much understanding.
- Can you fill us in on what this is all about? - asked my heater.
- Daniel wants to use the services of a sorcerer friend, in order to track our father through that very ring. - Everyone's eyes lit up with excitement. - But there is always a price for that. In this world, nothing is ever free. - I added, anticipating the euphoria. The others looked at me with confusion.
- So what does he want? We'll give it to him. - Gee... wrong question.
- It's just... He needs to be paid back for it. It's up to him to determine what he needs as payment, though sometimes he'll be persuaded to do something... ekhm... less personal....
- What does one do in an expression of thanks? - I shook my head that they wouldn't get anything else out of me. It's better that they don't know what payment we always agreed on. If they found out that I was donating my blood and that I had liquidated people for him in the past who had done him wrong, then nothing would come of this plan. Maybe I can convince him to modify this form of gratitude.
- It doesn't mean anything anyway. We have to try something, and right now he is our only and best option. - I sighed at Dan's answer, because as far as I know, he doesn't know the payment the sorcerer has always wanted.
- Well, so be it. I need to get in touch with him. - I closed my eyes, concentrated and started sending him a message in my mind repeating the same thing several times. I need a favor. Moonlight Pack. Now all I have to do is wait for him to show up. - Done. However, I don't know when he will show up.
**********
We are already waiting for an hour and a half and still no sign from my friend. Everyone was impatiently sitting in Espen's room. At some point I heard quiet shouts of surprise in the hall. I rushed towards the door to see what was going on. I opened the door and found our guest on the threshold. Now I knew what all the fuss was about in the corridor. He looked to be in his thirties, although in reality he was a few years old and wasn't wearing anything. He was as naked as God had made him. I heard a few growls behind me, so out of courtesy to all the couples connected, I spoke to him about it:
- You should have, at least put something on.
- Don't tell me you didn't miss that beautiful skin candy? - He looked into my eyes with his reptilian ones. His trademark are eyes and skin. Occasionally green and purple scales appear on his body. - Our greetings have always been a bit more intriguing. - He smiled playfully at me and kissed both cheeks, then walked around me. What he meant was that I was showing him evidence of eliminating the targets he wanted to get rid of. He preferred to make sure that I was doing the job right, and at the same time he was happy that they weren't coming back. I respected that and complied every time so as not to fall into his disfavor. When I turned on my heel, he was wearing only sweatpants. He gave me a "Satisfied?" look and then with a sweep of his arm he turned back to the rest of the group:
- Well what honor is it that I have to help a pack of wolfbloods? - he sneered. Since no one seemed to be budging for an answer then I was doomed to talk and deal with him.
- We are looking for two people. I thought you might be willing to help. I'd like to point out up front that there will be an adjustment to the payment.
- What kind of adjustment are we talking about?
- The first condition stays, but the second condition doesn't apply and never will again.
- Too bad. - He groaned with disappointment. - Because I was looking forward to the second one with great satisfaction. However, today everything is at my expense. - He winked at me. What? Something stinks here... Is this some kind of a trick? I see you finally found him. Don't tire yourself out like this. This is the only reason I'm making an exception. But don't think in the future you'll get out of my taxed service. He said to me in thoughts. Oh, I forgot that he can see the bonds that bind individuals together. Each bond has a different color. Marked individuals are red, friendship is blue, family is purple, and so on. There are several more colors that have different meanings, but only he can separate the spheres to physically see them. I nodded my head in acknowledgement and moved on to the main topic that got him here:
- We only have a ring. I'm counting on you to do something with your magic fingers. - I joked, which he immediately caught and gave me a broad smile. He took the ring from Kjartan and closed his eyes. Every now and then he rotated the metal between his fingers, and after a few minutes he put it on his right heart finger.
- I can feel him. It is a very faint connection. It means that he is definitely alive, but he is not in your territory.
- What happens now? - I asked. We cannot just walk into another pack's territory. We would need permission and a thousand other things.
- What do you mean, what? As if you didn't know my way around. - he said, and I felt faint.
- I know it all too well. - He wanted to teleport just like that. Every time he moved us somewhere, it made me sick, which is why it's not my favorite mode of transportation. - But that doesn't mean I like it. Besides, I'm sort of marked, so at some point they'll eventually smell the local scent and....
- Not necessarily. - Maria interjected. - The scent of the pack isn't permanently on you yet. It won't be until you are fully paired up that you will be able to smell it. - She said, and the tips of my ears grew hot. Do they really have to land suggestions now about the marking and that other thing that inevitably comes with it? I looked at Adrian, but he had an inscrutable look on his face. Resignedly, I looked at the sorcerer and nodded.
- Fine, but...
- I will go with you. - John interrupted me. - I am from the Council. They can't do anything to me, and if there are problems with other packs, I will somehow alleviate any inconveniences that might arise along the way. - Good idea. I grabbed my buddy's hand. John did the same and we were ready to travel.
- Let's go. - Maximilian communicated and a green light appeared around us.
