I The Smell Of The Rainforest...

I woke up in the middle of the night covered in sweat. Here we go again. Why on earth am I having these memories coming back to me every night? I looked with sleepy eyes at my watch, which displayed three-ten in the morning. I had slept less than three hours. Just wonderful. Knowing I wouldn't fall back asleep, I rolled out of bed and set out to make myself some coffee. Upon entering the kitchen, I searched through several cabinets until I found what I was looking for - capsules for the coffee maker. I figured that a capsule coffee maker would be perfect for one person and its purchase was definitely the right decision. I have to get used to the new layout of the house, because when you move every now and then you remember different versions of product placement. With coffee in hand, I ended up in front of the TV watching some lame soap opera. I don't know what I expected at this hour. They put on soap operas just to have something on. After some time I was laughing to tears because it turned out that what they were airing was funny in its own way.

Suddenly I jumped off the couch as if I had been burned. I glanced at the TV display and decided that if I didn't get my respectable three letters up in five minutes, I would definitely be late for school. On the first day. As if I still needed that. Explaining to strangers that I suffer from insomnia, and that I fell asleep while watching a soap opera in the middle of the night. Despite my complaining, I finally headed to the bathroom. I took care of my physiological needs and washed my face. When I came out, I pulled the first better things out of my closet: dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt with white wings printed on the back. Hm... A dark outfit would definitely make a good first impression... After putting on the shirt, it was time to pull on the pants. I almost flipped through the killer pant legs twice, and once I had buttoned and zipped them up I ran down to the kitchen in search of some food. An apple caught my eye, so I snatched it up and brought it with me. I bit into it, which freed up my hands. I put on my shoes and left, heading for the car, eating the whole apple in the meantime.

After about ten minutes I arrived at the gate of my new school. In the previous town to get to the school and not get lost on the way was a miracle. Here the town is so small that there are only two schools for which my age qualifies. Pulling into the parking lot, I started looking around for some free space. I found one. At the very end, which is as far away from the school as possible. I should have gotten up earlier to find something closer. I crawled out of the car and headed towards my new adventure! Meh... The building in front of me is two-storied, painted yellow with a glass entrance and huge windows. Behind the school, I could see the seam of the field, which means that all the sports facilities are right there. After entering the school, I started looking around for the secretary's office. Nothing. Why does it have to be such a goddamn giant of a building?
- Hi, are you looking for something? You look lost and in need of help. - I turned around and saw a shyly smiling blonde girl with brown eyes. She was dressed in a light pink dress and beige-colored platform shoes. I took a step closer to her and sensed a hint of wet grass in the air. Definitely a werewolf. Everyone has their individual scents, but every werewolf smells like something wet. I could read the uncertainty in her body language, which indicated that she was either a very shy person on a daily basis or just like I thought, I looked unfriendly. Light brown hair and green eyes hidden by lenses. Though maybe my outfit is actually not very appropriate for making new friends. When I realized that I had been thinking too long and just staring at her without saying a word, I quietly replied:
- Yes, I'm looking for the secretariat. Could you tell me where I can find it?
- Sure, but it's better if I take you there, it's easy to get lost here. By the way, I'm Emily, but everyone calls me Em.
- Rozalia. Lead the way. - I waved my hand in front of me. We walked through the whole corridor and then we turned left to go in front of the room I was looking for. We didn't exchange a single word the whole way. The moment I grabbed the door handle I heard from behind me:
- If you want... I'll find you later and... and if you want you can sit with me and my friends. In the cafeteria.
- With pleasure. - I smiled slightly and she started to turn around, but out of the corner of my eye I saw her wide smile and an expression of relief on her face.

Upon entering, my nose was assaulted by an incredibly nauseating perfume smell. I looked around and immediately located its source. Behind the desk sat a woman with hair dusted with gray wearing a pink outfit. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but I blinked a few times and found that my vision was fine. The jacket, skirt and shirt were all candy pink. To keep from bursting into a fit of giggles, I coughed and said:
- Good morning, I'm... - I didn't have time to finish because I was already flooded with words.
- Oh, yes Rozalia Kas I suppose? Welcome to our humble school. In a moment I'll give you the code to your locker, but before that the headmistress wanted to talk to you personally. - She indicated the door on my right and hurried me to enter as soon as possible. Inside I found a woman with red hair and chocolate eyes.
- Hello, my name is Amanda Zorel. I have something to tell you. Sit down. - When I did, she continued: - Seeing your academic performance, I've assigned you to the highest foreign language groups. However, you will have French and Italian taught individually. Even though we teach those languages here, none of the groups are as advanced as you are, they are barely beginners. With English I couldn't do that anymore, but as I pointed out earlier it will be in the advanced group.
- How do you know about such things? I have all the necessary documents with me because I was just about to deliver them.
- Relax, I'm explaining now. Your former tutor sent me all the results and the necessary documents. - Yeah... Thanks Karl... I'm surprised they don't suspect anything, but I breathed a sigh of relief and muttered a silent 'thank you'. In my entire life, I haven't had much experience with institutions such as schools. Karl took me under his wing and he taught me most of the things. He also creates different documents for me, such as graduation certificates, birth certificates and such. The headmistress just nodded and said that this was all the information she wanted to give me. She added a sentence about Mrs. Kalina who would give me the timetable and the locker code mentioned before. I went out of the office and behind the desk there was already Mrs. Kalina, who was immediately pushing things into my hands and telling some anecdotes about the school. I said goodbye and left as quickly as possible. Uf... It was incredibly tiring. The fast talking made my brain overheat. After a while, I finally found a locker with a number assigned to me on a piece of paper. I threw the things I didn't need inside and then I looked at the timetable to see which classroom I should go to. Twenty-seven with Mr. Helkins... 27, 27, 27... Oh! I got it! It was long past the bell when I walked in, so twenty-six pairs of eyes were looking at me.
- Ah, you're the new one. - It turned out that my new counselor approached me with a questioning face. A middle-aged guy with a warm smile and sporty looks.
- Yes. - He nodded and turned towards the students saying:
- Dear students, meet a classmate who will join you from now on. I hope you will take good care of her. This week we will have one more new student besides Miss Kas. You can sit over there at the end, there's an empty seat next to Aron. - I looked around the classroom and saw the seat he was talking about. I started moving between the desks until I finally reached the bench where the boy was sitting. I sat down in my seat and looked at my neighbor. The boy had a dark complexion and very dark hair that matched his eyes. He noticed that I was looking at him, so he gave me a rude "what are you looking at?" look, so I quickly averted my gaze. I heard whispers around me, so I raised my head. Suddenly there was silence in the room. I suspect it was about me. Without troubling myself about it, I started listening to the teacher.

Finally! A long break! After several classes, I've had enough of everything. Maybe I will revive during this time. I was heading towards the cafeteria when someone grabbed me by the elbow. I turned around to see Emily smiling widely.
- Let's get the food first and then we'll go sit at the table. - This is how I ended up in a very long queue to the buffet, which fortunately moves forward smoothly.
- What do you recommend? - I asked not to get something that would make me sick for days. Let's not kid ourselves, not everyone has a gift for cooking. They shouldn't hire people to work in schools without culinary training, but who knows what kind of deals are going in there....
- Everything but the stew. Take my word for it. You don't want it in your stomach, not to mention the look and smell. - She pointed her finger at some big gray slurry. Indeed, it does not look very inviting, and the closer we get to it, the more intensely I smell some unidentified, sour smell. In the meantime we managed to exchange phone numbers and when it was our turn I took fries and fruit salad. The girl took a similar set and pulled me to her table. On the way to the table she assessed the seating situation. Just as I thought. In every school there are groups more or less made up. Here they are very defined. In the middle of the room sits the 'elite'. Rich kids, who have no idea what to do with themselves in the future, so they spend their parents' money right and left, match and cuddle in the middle of the corridor or in the canteen so that everyone can see how glamorous and attractive they are. At the very end there are those who idolize flipping through books, because they must know everything about ancient Greek philosophy. Next to them sit the fans of heavy sounds dressed in black. Well with my outfit today I guess I would have partially fit in there... I noticed a few other "associations" but Em jerked me down hard so I landed my butt on the bench. Good thing I have enough motor coordination that the food tray landed with a clang on the table and not on my pants.
- Meet Rozalia. I will introduce them one by one Rozalia: David, Alexandra, Aron, Matilda, Kinga, and Karmen. My brother Adrian is still missing. - They all have tanned complexions, differing only in their shades, and each of them has brown eyes also in a different range of brightness. The only thing that makes them different is their hair color, the latter of which has neon pink dye in her hair. Everyone greeted me politely except Aron. When he saw me again he made a grimace as if he had eaten something bitter. Well, somehow he has to endure my presence. They went back to the topics they had left and I started my fries and salad. After finishing my meal, I lifted up my eyes from the tray only to meet the gaze of one of the girls - Karmen. Under her intense gaze I began to squirm in my seat. Suddenly I felt my eyes begin to burn. Oh no. Could it be that my eyes had changed color? No, that's not possible. I have lenses, after all.
- Is something wrong? You've turned pale. - asked Kinga, a pretty brunette with a Slavic beauty.
- I... just realized that there is something I need to do. I have to go. - I ran out of the cafeteria at a fast pace. I headed straight for the women's bathroom. I looked in the mirror, in which the fading glow of my irises was reflected. I was right, something had activated their glow. Hopefully no one noticed it, and the pink haired one would think it was a reflection of the sunlight. I rinsed my face with cold water to collect myself. When the bell rang I determined that I will go to my next lesson.

The end of school as for today. Thankfully, I do not have much time left to attend school. I transferred a month before the end of the school year. Was it worth it? Every time I transfer I leave something behind, but I have to do it. The principal was nice enough not to make me start third grade from the beginning but to let me finish. While I was thinking like that I bumped into someone, I apologized for my inattention and I proceeded to move on, but the amazing smell of the rainforest reached me... This time something is wrong with my nose. I shook my head at my stupidity, reached the car, threw my bag on the back seat and drove home.

The first item on the agenda became the kitchen. Oh boy I am so hungry! I took the first thing out of the freezer. It turned out to be pizza, so I preheated the oven and threw it on a sheet pan. As I waited for it to bake I looked out the window and began to wonder what the other werewolves meant to me. A threat? Friends? I have very big problems when it comes to close friends. It's not easy for me to open up to new people, and I could count my real friends on the fingers of one hand. It remains to be seen. Nothing is lost yet. I was snapped out of my trance by the sound of the alarm on the stove announcing that the food was ready. Did I set it? That's not important right now. More important is the food. I pulled out the pizza and ketchup to immediately munch on my love - food. After finishing eating, I washed my plate and decided I could use a run in the woods. I hurried upstairs to change into my sports clothes, then ran downstairs and jumped into my running shoes. I walked out of the house locking it behind me and made my way to the sidewalk. I headed towards the woods located behind my fence. Once at the edge of the woods, I started to run along the forest path. A few kilometers further on, I decided to deviate a bit from the route. After all, I won't get lost. The vegetation started to get thicker the further I went into the forest, but I did not mind. It was getting dusky, so I should head back. However, I took a few steps forward because I heard water rustling. I broke through the overgrown vegetation and a small waterfall emerged in front of me. I sat down on a protruding rock and began to enjoy the sounds of nature around me. At one point, I heard the sound of paws hitting the ground and a familiar smell came to me, but I couldn't place it with anyone. I'd better get out of here. Rising from the stone, I shrugged off my pants and ran back the way I came. After a while, I realized that someone was following me, but I didn't show that and kept quietly moving away. Eventually I reached the edge of the forest, turned around and saw golden brown eyes in the distance. I knew them, but again, I didn't know who they could belong to. I turned my head away from it and rushed into the house. I looked out the windows once more, but the werewolf had disappeared. Interesting. As of right now I can't figure out who it could be, so I jumped in the shower to wash off the sweat and dirt. After the bath, I jumped into my pajamas and, with no interests for this evening, I gave myself over to the arms of Morpheus.
