3 | FEELING
"i like you, jisung! will you be my boyfriend?"
the blue haired male finished his dance practice for the day and was about to head out to go back to his dorm room, when suddenly, a boy his age stopped him and handed him a water bottle with a snack attached to it.
usually, chenle would stop by the dance gym and at least say hi to jisung and give him a water bottle, but the chinese male had to help his music teacher with something and still hasn't returned, according to the text messages jisung saw when he picked his phone up on his way out of the room.
even though those messages were sent over an hour ago, the blue haired boy thought that he was still with the teacher. so he was about to head back alone after finishing his daily dance practice, which is when he ran into this small boy who was standing in front of him, face progressively getting redder and redder as each second passed by of jisung looking at him.
"uh..." the young boy was at loss for words. he had no idea who this boy even was, and yet, here he was, confessing to the blue haired male like it was his last day on earth. the boy must be glad that no one else was around except for them, so he didn't have to suffer from both embarrassment and the presence of his crush.
"i've liked y-you since middle school and you're s-so amazing at dancing and you're so g-good looking and smart!" the boy started saying to jisung, catching the blue haired male's eyes before quickly looking a the ground.
ipromiseiwilltreatyouwell! imakethebestcookiesandgivethebesthugs! iwillloveyouunconditionallyforever! (i promise i will treat you well! i make the best cookies and give the best hugs! i will love you unconditionally forever!)" the other said super fast, so fast that jisung almost couldn't catch anything he said. plus, the boy was looking at the floor the entire time, which made it even difficult for jisung to hear or understand.
"um... okay, first, please speak slower. i didn't understand a single thing you just said. and also, look at me when you're talking or it seems as if you aren't paying attention or, in this case, being insincere," jisung started. the shorter male immediately looked up to meet jisung's eyes and had the urge to look away, but he fought that urge, since the blue haired male told him to look at him.
"okay, don't look at me like that. you look like i'm going to kill you, but i'm not going to hurt you," jisung pointed out, causing the other to look away again, but after remembering that the taller male told him to look at him, he looked back at jisung, this time without looking scared.
"i'm sorry..."
"don't apologize. you didn't do anything wrong. i'm only here to help you to look more sincere," jisung said softly after realizing that this boy would probably cry if jisung said something wrong accidentally.
the only thing was, jisung had never dealt with someone like this boy in front of him. all of his friends are either bigger than him, or if they were smaller, then they would be ready to fight anyone at a given second (jisung is most definitely talking about renjun). this boy looked like he would cry if jisung flicked his forehead playfully.
"what's your name?" the blue haired male asked softly.
"i'm talking to a kid the same age as me, yet i feel like i'm talking to a five year old," jisung thought based on the way the boy acted and talked as well.
"j-junhwan, lee junhwan," jisung was now relieved that he could put a name to a face.
"well, junhwan, i appreciate the comment - and the confession, but i don't return your feelings. i don't even know who you are and up until now, i didn't even know your name," the blue haired male said. junhwan nodded his head. "i'm... sorry."
"n-no, it's okay. i knew i was g-going to be rejected, but just being able to t-talk to you is enough," junhwan said, sounding like a fanboy talking to his bias in his favorite idol group. the red from his face still hasn't left, but the boy seemed more relaxed than before, in jisung's eyes, at least.
jisung nodded his head as a response to junhwan's last comment. "hm... well, i'm going to get going now. i'll see you around, yeah?"
"wait, before you go," junhwan stopped the blue haired male from leaving the gym before handing him the water bottle and the snack he bought. "i want you to take these. i bought them for you, and i don't want them to go to waste."
at first, the taller male hesitated to take the things from junhwan, but after a lot of urging and convincing, jisung finally agreed to take them, leaving the gym with a last wave to junhwan.
after exiting the dance gym, jisung looked at the snack that junhwan had given him. it was his favorite snack: spicy shrimp crackers. the blue haired male shook his head and a small smile formed on his lips, wondering how the other knew his favorite snack when the two haven't had a conversation before just now.
what jisung didn't see was chenle hiding behind a vending machine inside the dance gym by the doors, and he didn't know that the orange haired male heard their entire conversation.
"why am i feeling like this all of a sudden?" chenle thought as he waited for junhwan to leave the gym so he can make his way back to his dorm room.
"oh, you're back," jisung said after coming out of the shower and seeing chenle sitting on his bed, scrolling through his phone. the blue haired boy was using a towel to dry his hair and sat at the foot of chenle's bed.
the chinese male put his phone down and nodded his head at jisung, acknowledging the younger student. sitting up on his bed, the orange haired male grabbed jisung's towel and dried his hair for him, like he does when he has time, which isn't everyday, but still majority of the days.
"what did you have to help mr. lee with?" the younger of the two boys asked. chenle just shook his head and sighed.
"he wanted help with finding his coffee mug, which turned out to be at his office desk behind the computer. we searched for two hours in the music room and the teacher's lounge, only to realize it was right there the entire time," sounding very annoyed at his teacher, chenle let out another sigh.
"well, you know mr. lee. he's like that, based on what doyoung hyung had told me," jisung said, chenle nodding his head in agreement. the older of the two continued drying the other's hair, the towel turning a light shade of blue due to the younger male's hair color.
"anything happen to you today?" chenle asked, referring to the confession from someone earlier, but jisung didn't know that the other had heard and saw the entire conversation.
"i mean, some kid confessed to me today," jisung said to his friend. the other was glad that his blue haired friend didn't hide it and actually told him about it, whereas other people would usually hide it.
"his name is lee junhwan. do you know him?"
upon hearing the question, chenle shook his head. the chinese had never heard of someone named lee junhwan. he could figure out that the boy was a first year, but didn't know anything else about him.
"i know a kim jaehwan. not a lee junhwan," he said, taking the towel from his hands and throwing it into the laundry bin by the bathroom door that filled with their dirty towels. usually, the two would take turns to do the laundry with the towels, and tomorrow was jisung's day to take them to the laundry room and wash them. their clothes they did on their own.
"the kim jaehwan in your music class? didn't you always say how he has a nice singing voice?" jisung asked, trying to make sure the older was talking about the right person. after the chinese male nodded his head, the younger of the two was able to confirm that they were talking about the same person.
"anyway, he bought me a water bottle and a bag of shrimp crackers and it seemed as if he had waited for me to leave the gym. i don't even know how he knew that shrimp crackers were my favorite snack, or how he knew that i would be at the gym, or how he knew i dance, even," jisung ruffled his hair, confused as to how junhwan knew so much about the blue haired male, yet the young boy didn't know anything about the other.
"maybe he likes you so much that he asked around about you," chenle suggested as the other got up from the chinese's bed and went to his desk to finish up the homework he wasn't able to finish earlier. jisung just shrugged his shoulders.
"i rejected him anyway, so it doesn't really matter anymore, i guess," jisung said to his friend, sitting down in his desk chair and grabbing his homework from his backpack.
chenle was laying in his bed, facing the younger's back, and trying to figure out if he should ask or not. looking at the clock on his bedside, the orange haired male saw the time read 22:00. it was still kind of early, compared to the time that he usually sleeps due to waiting for jisung to finish his dance practice.
after a few minutes, chenle finally decided to ask what was in his mind. "hey, jisung. is there anyone you like?"
jisung stiffened upon hearing that question come from chenle's mouth, but it went unnoticed by the older. the blue haired male tried to relax enough to answer the question without stuttering, but he was still somewhat stiff when answering.
"no, i don't," jisung managed to say without stuttering. he was aware of his lie, but he couldn't find himself to say straight up to chenle that he likes someone, for some reason.
"okay," the other turned around in his bed, facing away from the younger who was doing his work. the chinese boy couldn't explain why, but he felt disappointed after hearing that jisung doesn't like anyone in that way. the older of the two just shook it off as his protectiveness for the younger as a friend, but deep down, chenle knew that there was something else to it.
