So I'm in band. I play the flute, and its really fun. We have these things called chairs, and basically first chair is the best player (determined by a test), and last chair is the person who didnt do the best. You can 'challenge' the chair above you once a week, where you choose a piece to play and if you play it better, you move up a chair.
     Now, the flute section kind of got carried away with the challenges. When my sister was in band, there was maybe one challenge a year. This year, (its just the flutes...) there have been more than ten total. Honestly, I don't mind the whole chairs and stuff. I think it gives us a nudge to try and be the best we can be and have a little friendly competition. But us flutes sort of got carried away.
     I'm not saying the flutes are bad people. I know most of them really well, and a lot of them are really nice. Its just our differing opinions. The person who sits next to me hates the chairs stuff. My friend loves the challenges.
     The person who sits next to me (lets call her...Amanda) and her friend started a thing where we don't challenge each other, no chairs, and we all are equal. I don't disagree with it exactly, but I'm not all down for it. I like the chairs, but I don't want it to put us all against each other. Yes, maybe we're all equal, but then we aren't trying to be better. Maybe it's just me. I like having different parts from other flutes, and standing out sometimes.
     So Amanda makes a sheet of paper for us to all sign to not have chairs and whatnot. I told her I'd think about it, and I have thought about it. And I still don't know.
     What would you guys do?
