This was such a powerful story, and I absolutely adored it. You have written such an amazing book, and I loved your choice to let us see the happenings of the book through The Monster's eyes.
At first, I was just thinking this would be a really simple story, but there are so many hidden layers to all the chapters, and I think it's really effective that we never fully understand The Monster's past. The detail you have put into created a world for him and his people is amazing, and from their language to their celebrities are so incredible.
Dawn herself is an amazing character, and I can't help but think what might have happened if things had turned out different. She is such a powerful, independent child, and I love her stubborn attitude and defiance at everything. She is wise beyond her years, and she would have been an absolutely wonderful person to have gotten to know. From the first time she was introduced, I knew that I adored her. Your description of her is incredible and I can vividly picture her and her personality.
The plot is beautiful, and I didn't see the darker story behind it before it hit me in the face. You've written it in such a way that I didn't think Steve would even do anything like that until he did. I'll admit, it shocked me to the core, but it also made sense, in a way.
The Monster is a character that I think we can all relate to. His need for approval, his trying to fit in with his fellow monster community (as a feared child-scarer), and his eventual realization that sometimes people are the real monsters. Even if he doesn't truly exist, his philosophy is 100% true.
Perhaps monsters really have more humanity than some humans. Perhaps we create these stories of frightening creatures that hide under the bed to distract from the monsters around us. Because there certainly are. And sometimes we don't see them until it's too late.
Thank you TheWitchWhoWrites for writing such a powerful, impactful, meaningful story. It really struck a chord with me, and I wouldn't change a word of it for anything.
