Wow that's a long book. Like, DAMN YOU'VE WRITTEN LOADS.
But I'm thoughally enjoying it so far! I've only read the first 10 chapters or so because I've got a couple other books waiting to be reviewed, but I'm going to finish it some day, even if it takes me 30 years!
To begin with, I absolutely adore the quote dividers you sometimes add in. They are so effective and interesting, short as they are. They add to the overall atmosphere of the whole book, and I really like that!
Your characters are so well written and described that it seems like I am watching a movie, not reading a book. Herschel and Lyeasrakardsul in particular are so ingeniously created. The conversations they have with themselves are so delftly written that they make complete sense and seem the hight of normality.
Sometimes creating a new world is risky and doesn't seem plausible, but Huom seems like it is just the planet next to Earth. The places and names of cities are completely realistic and well designed, and I feel like I can hop on a plane to the Vargreeks or the Khmur desert! Huom is now one of my favourite fiction worlds, Anne McCaffrey's Pern and Terry Pratchett's Disk World being a couple of the only few better ones.
Your little details add to the story's atmosphere, like how all the Akri are all women, or that all Sorcerers go by the pronouns he/him. The different species on Huom, as well, are so interesting and original.
This book is written by someone with a stubborn personality, an expansive imagination, and a great deal of free time. This book is also written by someone with a great control of humour, an ability to create scientific explanations of fictional magic and has impeccable character development skills. I also imagine that the person who wrote this book has read a plethora of Terry Prattchet and Neil Gaiman books.
My greatest respect to you, NickfEast . You have written a true masterpiece of fiction, and I will forever hold you in high regards for it.
P.S: I am absolutely in love with the quote: "To be right is more important than to do right" - Gods and arseholes, or both. It is just so ingenious and funny, even my dad agrees!
P.P.S: Have you ever thought about getting this book turned into an audiobook? I think it would be fantastic, but that's just my thoughts. If it already is, can you point me in its direction?
