task four: character relationships
1. Camden and Maximilian Garcia.
Relationship: Father-Son
Maximilian, despite all of his quiet, kind support, had always been pretty much absent from his family's life, preferring to channel his energy into his work. He had a good relationship with his eldest daughter having inherited his business acumen, his youngest daughter having inherited her mother's talents for the arts and making him see a shadow of his younger wife whom he greatly respects in her.
He also made time for his son, East, to prevent him from going off the rails. He's a bit invested in each of their lives despite his emotional distance but the same can't be said of Camden who he'd seen was always more withdrawn and inclusive without any special talents he could help grooming him in.
Despite the overwhelming feelings of abandonment and anger he held, Camden had an overwhelming amount of respect for his father, especially since he was the one who rekindled his burning flame for creating music after sharing a heartwarming conversation with his son that never left the latter, on the importance of pursuing his passion and never letting the flame die out.
2. Camden and Jules Garcia.
Relationship: Mother-Son
Camden had a pretty close relationship with his mother, Jules, who is very nurturing and slightly overprotective of her children. Now, they're a bit estranged because of the distance he's put between them.
Originally, she's the only one who seems to have eyes for him in a family where he's regarded as silent but later on, divides her attention so she can channel it in guiding her daughters and bringing back her other son from the brink.
He feels somewhat responsible for her sacrificing her desires and dream to get into the entertainment industry so she could take care of them in the absence of their father. However, he disdains her finding love in a younger man following his dad's passing as although he knew there was no real love between them, would rather hold on to the fragile ideality of family he had.
3. Camden and Alexandra Garcia.
Relationship: Siblings
Camden had always felt much more inferior to his overly brainy sister. It wasn't that he didn't feel himself smart enough or anything but that Alex came across as much too smart and thought on a much higher wavelength than any of her siblings.
He adores his sister as she's one that went to great lengths in creating time for him despite her busy schedule and nurtured him where his parents didn't really have the time to. He, however, can't deny the suffocation he feels in his life in comparison to her successful one.
4. Camden and Easton Garcia.
Relationship: Twins
Camden despises his twin brother. In the onset, they were fine and though the latter had always been more extroverted, their parents had always divided the little time they had to spare equally between them. The time of peace didn't past long as his twin was soon going off the rails, acting out and getting embroiled in substances.
Compared to looking after a son that didn't really require much of their careful attention no matter how important, they were more inclined to focus on the one who needed their help more. So all his life, Camden watched his twin take up their attention, accompanying him to rehab, grounding him out and attentively taking him out for an 'alone time' with just them.
Sure, he was jealous and had the thought of acting out as well if only to garner some attention too but heaven knows he had no such time or strength to do anything so foolish.
5. Camden and Raelynn Garcia.
Relationship: Siblings
Camden adores his baby sister who he knows looks up to him and revels in her childlike fascination with him and being her revered favorite brother. They'd always had a good relationship and although he turned estranged with the rest of his family, he never pushed her aside, always keeping in touch with her and even making time to support her art exhibits.
This contributes to the reason why news of her terminal illness absolutely crushes him and makes him reconsider what he could have done so things didn't spiral to this extent as according to Alex, she didn't see the point in living amongst a family in shambles despite her highly successful career.
6. Camden and Sofia.
Relationship: Aunt-Nephew
Sofia, also Fia, had always been in a never-ending battle with her sister, Jules, to see who could end up with the better life. She's divorced, a single mother and undisputedly the person with the worst relationship with Camden.
If Camden despises his twin, then he loathes this woman who'd always belittled him and his efforts, skeptical and disdainful of Jules' overly soft and lenient parenting style.
The long-standing feud Camden now shares with his aunt dates back to a family dinner where she'd brusquely commented how his little passion for music could hardly ever amount to anything more than a passing fancy or hobby and could never be a viable career path.
7. Camden and Aurelios.
Relationship: Cousins
Aurelios, Fia's son, had always looked up to Camden for daring to and being able to pursue his dreams despite the nasty, belittling comments from others, a.k.a his mother. He admired his cousin's independence and creativity, often feeling stifled by his mother's own strict rules and expectations of him despite his passion in arts like his other cousin, Rae.
She thought little of it and his passion but he'd always felt supported by his cousin who'd encouraged him to follow his passion, often giving him advice and sharing his struggles despite castigations from Fia.
8. Camden and Haven.
Relationship: Co-workers and friends
Camden treats Haven the way he would any other individual that isn't his family— cordially enough and at arm's length. He eventually grows on Camden as they work together as baristas, the latter having to work him through their routine at the shop.
Camden is appreciative of his honest and blunt personality and finds him outgoing and creative, sharing a love for music and art they end up having many an intellectual conversation on.
Over time, they get much closer and begin to hang out outside of work.
9. Camden and Morgan.
Relationship: Childhood friends and once, band members.
Camden and Morgan have been friends since childhood, bonding over their shared love for sports and music. They hang out frequently, often playing basketball and attending concerts together.
They started playing in a band in high school along with two other students and while the idea soon flopped and they never really made it big save playing for the locals, the experience only strengthened their friendship and helped fuel their passion for music.
10. Camden and Willoughby.
Relationship: Uncle-Niece
While Camden thinks little of his abhorrent brother, he quickly grows a fond spot for the little niece he's introduced to, a product of one of his twin's many flings.
He often makes time to accompany and entertain the ten-year old and proves a reliant uncle, bringing her under his wing when his brother appears to be falling back to his old habits.
11. Camden and Jensen.
Relationship: Negligible
Camden doesn't like his mother's younger pursuer much. Apart from the fact, they're all still reeling from the death of his father, he doesn't find this man who'd just popped out of nowhere hardly a week later with claims of love.
Simply speaking, he doesn't find the man sincere and mostly just refers to hum as a purported golddigger though he leaves him be in a bid to to respect his mother's wishes, merely taking on a role of watching from the sidelines.
While he feels slightly displaced with the support system he once had on his mother and has a hard time fully letting go, he takes on more of a protective stance to see if the guy proves genuine or otherwise.
