Icarus
The clock read 3:16 p.m. The calendar read July 17, 2215. Those were the time and date on earth, but who knew what the time actually was on this planet so far from earth. I steadied my breathe and opened the door. I reminded myself that the scientists back on earth needed observations of this planet, Icarus, and with that, I cautiously stepped out of the metal space craft. I was immediately hit with an eerie silence. The only sounds were that of my heavy breathing and thumping heart. I was finally in space, what I've always wanted. As soon as my feet connected with the ground, I realized underfoot the planet felt like loose, dry dirt and small rocks. The main difference, however, was the color. Instead of a normal, boring, dull brown like the dirt on earth, the ground beneath me was colored in swirls of dark red-brown and a deep navy blue. As I started to wonder how it got its color, I realized the atmosphere around me. The air was full of a pale, white fog full of small flakes of ice, probably due to the planets distance from the sun. The cold temperature and lack of noise on the planet reminded me of a nice, snowy winter evening back on earth. One you'd like to spend inside with your family. I looked around again, but the fog made it almost impossible to see ahead. I turned around and headed back into the space craft which had brought me to this desolate place. I felt a sense of loneliness, for here, it was just me and quiet, cold planet.
(My attempt to show what I imagined Icarus to look like^)
So, little authors note; the whole plot of landing on a planet named Icarus in the future was the assignment for this story for my ELA class, but everything else was done entirely by me, the date, the character, the descriptions, everything here is my work, just trying not to confuse you. Most of the stories in this "book" will probably be just writing prompts I really liked and decided to write out.
