The Scary Pier
For those of you who don't know, I am a Junior Lifeguard. Two years in a row. Those who have seen me in PE may not think so. I run slow but i am a BOSS at swimming. Don't mean to brag.
Anyway, in Junior Lifeguards one of the requirements is to jump off of the pier. Now I know what you are thinking. "But Sophie, you aren't allowed to jump off of the Pier! You will get in trouble with the lifeguards!" Well guess what. Junior Lifeguards are allowed to jump off of the pier. The lifeguards are our instructors. So we get special privilege. If you want to jump off of the pier, you will get in trouble with the lifeguards. I wont. Ha.
So here is what they tell you about jumping off of the pier: "Okay kids, we are going to go jump off of the pier today" Here is what they don't tell you:
1. You have to run the whole way there. This was the worst part because I hate running and it was a long way from where we where.
2. You will walk across the pier barefoot. This is an excellent way to get splinters in your feet.
3. Once you get to the pier, you have to step over the barrier and onto the little wooden ledge that my heels could barely fit on. You have to stand there until your instructor says you can jump
4. You're in the air for what seems like forever, when in reality it's only about 5 seconds.
5. The water becomes a million times colder the second you hit the water.
6. You have to swim over to the dock and climb back up to pier because you have to jump again. I ended up jumping 3 times.
7. You have to run all the way back to where you started. UGGHHH.
The pier is scary. I don't think I would ever jump off of it again. Unless someone forced me too. Like I had to jump or else I would die. Then I would probably jump off of it. But I wouldn't like it.
