In the town of New Leaf, 5 years ago, a Young man showed up, after quiting his journey, and was suddenly named the Mayor by one of the 5 residents, Isabelle, who would be his Secretary. 5 years, he would live his life, becoming a beloved member of the community, making it grow, making his own money, building and funding projects, as the tree at the center of town grew and grew as more people came to live there. However, Isabelle didn't see that, she hardly left Townhall to see what the Mayor was doing, only ever seeing him when he came to check up on her, make sure she ate and got some rest, and tell about a project that needed filing, so when one day when Mayor came in to tell her his day, she snapped, she yelled at him, she believed that he wasn't doing a single thing as mayor, that she was the only one who did anything, something she didn't realize wasn't true. The Mayor made his own money and funded everything himself, rather then from a account from Townhall, something Isabelle only later realize she forgot to do. The Mayor, never liking being yelled at, and often emotional, nearly broke up in tears. Isabelle realized she had snapped at him and quickly apologized, but what was done was done, so Mayor quickly excused himself and went home. He was quickly consumed in his thoughts, and rashly started packing his things, went to Tom Nook, and moved away. It happened in a flash, in one night the Town lost its Mayor, who had emailed Isabelle saying that she was the new mayor. Everyone was hit hard by this, none more then Isabelle, but she quickly sobered up for a time being, but in a month, New Leaf started to go down hill, with no one to pull the weeds, the flowers and plants started to suffer, New exhibits in the museum started drying up and losing traction, people started not enjoying the town, struggling to handle projects on their own, without help from their former Mayor. Slowly, people started to move away, businesses started closing down, and the tree in the center of town, the very symbol of the town and how far its gone, started to die, leaves turning brown, branches started turning gray, and trunk started to crack. When Isabelle saw the state of the tree she somberly trudged towards it, and fell to her knees. Then, the tree suddenly snapped, trunk crumbling, and branches falling, one nearly falling on Isabelle, narrowly missing her, except for the branch that cut her cheek. Digby, seeing what nearly happened to his sister, ran to her, and found her starting to cry, mumbling "what have I done" over and over as the weight of her responsibility and guilt finally started crushing her. The town, it was dead, the tree that had grown in the heart of it, died. Isabelle had no choice, but to sell the town, her life's work, cause her stupidity got it killed. Tom Nook, who moved away as his company rose to power, heard what happened to the town, and offered Isabelle a job, as an assistant for one of the islands of his business venture of the Deserted Island getaway, an Island that had been nurtured by an old friend and his pokemon. It was surprising to learn that Tom had adopted a pair of kids!

Mayor's actual name is Seich, and he had started a journey with a Pansear named Drum, a Pansage named Bass, and a Panpour named Key, a trio who loved music!

Sometimes famous trainers show up to the island.

Before learning about the Deserted Island Getaway, Seich had the misfortune of running into a particularly abusive family who was abusive physically and emotionally to their Nephew, named Harry. He got them sent to jail and took Harry in, and when Seich learned about the Island Getaway, he took Harry with him, but not before he adopted him, and gave themselves the family name, Balfour.

Being the Mayor's secretary was a 24/7 job, while being the Island Resident assistant is a 11/5 job with weekends off.

The pokemon world has a number of child protection laws and zero tolerance for abuse, one laws is the Joy Adoption Clause, in place for a trainer to effectively take in and possibly adopt a child they helped rescue from an abusive home.
