The ginormous sapphire ball kept rolling towards me through the smooth blue maze. I felt like I was Indiana Jones as I kept running. I noticed a blue crystalline figure in a lab coat looking down at me from a control panel. Then the world changed.
The blue shifted to emerald and the ball became a hoard of green knights. I noticed a peridot sword in my hands and trees of green crystal springing up around me. Had I stolen the sword?
The next time the world shifted, I was riding a purple horse, which, surprisingly, was not made of crystal, but of fur and flesh and hair. I had a lavender lasso in my hands and I could feel the patterned texture. Crystalline bullets in a dark shade of purple whizzed past me. I looked back to see a gang of violet bandits riding their own mauve horses, each with pistols in a matching shade.
The next world was black and white and gray. Monochrome penguins circled me and snow glided through the air and to the ground. It was blissful. I could see my shadow.
Flames danced around me the next time the world changed. Reds, oranges, and yellows. Even gray smoke. I could see a tiger and the glint of its sharp canines through the fire. I choked on the flames and smelled the ash. Then it shifted again.
I was in my cream hammock back at home. I could see my mom looking out the back window of the house towards the bustling little creek. My tiny siblings ran along the red wooden porch in diapers, giggling as they ran around. Dad sat in a rocking chair and watched them with a careful eye. The green lawn was spread out before me and the trees cast cool shade over the hammock. The world was nice when it was full of color.
I woke up. Unfortunately, color wasn't a reality for me. I was blind.
