The Power We Hold

(Dove Legend)

"WE ARE THE BEST CREW OUT THERE!"

Mordekai chuckled as he eyed the crew. They weren't all well; mostly rats, sharks and other normal Skull Island pirates. Unlike the crew beside them, which was well known compared to them. Mordekai finally spoke, eyeing the captain as she took the bottle from her crewmate.

"Dove." Her eyes met his as she stood up slightly. "C'mere fer a sec." She slowly went over as the tavern fell silent. Clearly no one noticed the Buccaneer trainer. "Good to see a friendly face in a crowd." She hummed as flicked at the bottle top, sending it flying into the trash. "But y'know the real reason fer tis." She hummed as she downed the bottle and tossed it into the trash. Silence followed before she moved over a chair and locked eyes with large shark. The 'Captain' of the new crew called out.

"Oi... What's happening o'er ere?" Mordekai hummed as she grunted, taking his challenge.

"This shall be fun." They locked hands into an arm wrestling position. He knew he was screwed, but let them see their fate. "3... 2... 1-"

That one said it all. She only gave half her strength before pushing him down. How did he know she was only using half? Not a wince on her face. There was a dull look that shadowed her face as she released his arm, which was starting to hurt. She then spoke in a hushed voice, which was hardly able to cross the tavern despite the silence.

"You must remember what I can do. That was a fraction of my full strength. Remember that." She then made a symbol to her other two crewmates before she left. Mordekai smiled a little at that.

~

The new crew took the bait and found her at the beach, working on her strength. She was working for 1,000,000 pushups and was getting close. She heard the crew moving over, so she waited before a familiar voice touched the air.

"Oi, Cuz! That mill ain't happening. Try something realistic, like lifting 10 boulder!" She got up and shot a glare at her cousin, Remmy, as he stood by her boyfriend, Alex. The Ship Master glared at the Witchdoctor before he called out.

"Go back to your Mill! You got this, Devin!"

"He's throwing you off!" She turned on her heel and scanned the beach, looking for the 20 boulders she lifted last time. 10? Her goal was 30 now. That's when the 'Captain' spoke.

"Oi." She turned to him as the other two ran over to her side. "You gotta lota nerve to hurt the great master Mordekai." Remmy instantly fired back.

"He challenged her!"

"No he didn't! He wouldn't fight a weakling!"

Silence followed as she growled, causing the two boys to bolt off. She looked the 'Captain' in the eye before she mouthed her words, not letting him get her voice.

'You cap?'

"Yes I am. Part of the best crew of Skull Island!" She scoffed before she walked around the crew like a solo shark before she easily lifted the rest of the crew, piled up on one hand. The 'Captain' was quiet as she hummed. Even the 10 boulders couldn't beat this. She finally mouthed to him.

'If this is the best crew of Skull Island, than you just made this place look like a joke to the spiral.' She then shifted her weight before throwing the crew, sending them to the other side of the beach. Silence followed as she hummed. 'I've lifted heavier. So if you want the title, you'll have to defeat me and my crew. And mind you, my crew isn't so simple.' She then walked off to the docks.

~

Port Regal had something for her. Sure, it wasn't much to her, but Remmy and Alex had more to say.

"Those were full ass ships!" She shrugged before stretching. "Devin, that can't be good for your body!" She hummed before speaking in a soft voice, knowing only they would hear it.

"So? There's almost nothing I can use for training anymore. I take what I can." She then paused as she stared off. She then returned to smile softly. "Let's go. There's gotta be soming we can do."

~

Bonnie Anne, one of the best shooters in Skull Island, was sitting in the tavern when someone slipped into the seat next to her.

"Pete, Dove Special, please."

"Hey Rem. How'd the mission go?"

"Are we adding or subtracting Devin?" Skinny Pete, the barkeeper chuckled at the reply as Bonnie snuck a glance at the boy beside her. His outfit wrote Witchdoctor while his attitude said something else. So not all are crazy.

"Man, that bad?" The Witchdoctor nodded. "Well, here Remmy. Three drinks for the crew. No murder in the cellar."

"I'll try." He took the three drinks before vanishing downstairs. Bonnie paused before she spoke.

"Dove Special? Never heard that one, Pete." Pete chuckled.

"That's because that a crew special. Gotta be part of that crew to have it and have to have a name for yourself. There's only 3 crew specials in this tavern and only one is shared with Flostam's." She paused.

"Dove? What's that name got?" Pete paused.

"You don't know the Legend of Dove?" Bonnie shook her head.

"News to me." Pete huffed.

"Well... Let me warn you now. Don't cross the crew, don't fight them, and don't expect to win against them. Now that we have that cleared up, the tales that the Legend holds are vicious." Bonnie gulped as he continued in a low voice.

"Not that long ago, a young pirate arrived here in Skull Island, almost directly after an Armada escape. With nowhere else to go, the pirate searched out Avery's assistance, looking for a path to start on.

While they didn't get a good guide from the great Captain, they found hope. Their cousin was on the island and they formed a crew, hoping to be the best out there. They started intense training; Witchdoctor and Buccaneer.

In Flostam, a little while into their training, they took a request to look into a missing captain that was supposed to be back at the town well before the current time. They went, with a less common ship, and went looking for the captain. Upon finding and getting him to safety, they learned about the Curse of Bobby Bones that had hit the dear young lad. Since their goal was to become the best, they decided to go after this deadly pirate, continuing their training in the process.

After they taught Bobby his lesson and freed the young lad, he asked if he could join as a part of their crew, wanting to be the best that the Skyways has ever seen. They took him in, mostly because he had a far better ship and was much more experienced.

Ever since that dangerously close mission, they have done nothing more than be the best out there. A Witchdoctor; proclaimed as the second best out there, a Buccaneer; as the strongest yet quietest out there, and A Ship Master; one that could control the Skyway."

She paused as Remmy returned and dropped off the two glasses. The bottle had completely vanished as Remmy smiled.

"Well, good news, there's been no murder. No bad news yet, but I'm sure you'll hear it."

He then disappeared as Pete scoffed.

"That there was the Witchdoctor, Remmy Nightingale. He is the second best Witchdoctor to walk the Spiral."

"Second?"

"He refuses to say he's better than Vadima since he can't pull off some of her abilities." Bonnie hummed as Remmy slipped out of the Cellar before someone caught up to him. "There's the Ship Master, Young Alex Kennit. He has flown over a dozen journeys and knows how to navigate the skyways both in and out of combat." Another person came up, this time going over to him. "Captain, heard about the success." She scoffed a little before putting a small bag down. She then disappeared outside before Pete spoke again. "And that was the Captain, Silent Devin Dove. Strongest Buccaneer on the island and the last person you'll talk to." Bonnie gulped. "So if you are truly want to meet the best of the best, head for the ports. They're either there, a tavern or on a mission."

~

Bonnie found the trio on the dock as they were training. Devin had two rafts in each hand, lifting them like weights like they weren't there. Remmy had his eyes closed while spirits wrapped around him, giving him a very possessed feel. She took back what she said earlier. Alex was cleaning the ship, getting really close to details. Bonnie hummed before she spoke.

"Oi!" They turned as Devin gave a look of confusion. Remmy snapped out of his little voodoo trance before he spoke.

"'ey! You were at the tavern, right? 'eard you talking about som'ing with the barkeep, eh?" Bonnie nodded.

"Name's Bonnie Anne. I was interested in the tale and came to see it fer myself." Devin paused as she placed the rafts down and Alex spoke.

"As in... battle?"

"No... I wouldn't fight you guys after what I heard. No... I want to see the action... If ya don't mind."

(Mistsongs)

Ashley was frozen when Rachel entered.

Her friend group was talking about random stuff when Duncan mentioned a new student, Rachel. Ashley thought nothing of it until the last name was revealed.

"Her full name on the sheet is Rachel Mistsong."

Ashley stopped moving, causing the others to gain some distance as her mind raced to a single thought. Why the hell was that family nearing her territory? Sure, she was related to them, but why?

"Ashley?" She snapped out of her thoughts before flashing her natural smile.

"Sorry! Zoned out..." She quickly caught up before they continued, her head still on the thought.

~

Rachel got introduced later, but they locked eyes instantly. They never uttered a word until Nolan saw the stances of concern and analysis. He went over and dragged Ashley away from the talk, gaining everyone's attention. Ashley was quiet until he spoke.

"You just met her."

"I know Mistsong. Brutal family that is keen on speed and destruction. But they have a calm side... only it bring the chaos inside to their aid." She shuddered. "Mistsong is the Death and Spirit Branch of Pixiedust. So having two branches in one world is... disturbing to say the least." Nolan hummed as she shot a look back at the group. "Not only that, but many people have a history with Mistsong. Just ask Ione. She'll tell you all about that one." Nolan hummed again as she sighed. "I guess I'm not used to having a sibling so close to me."

"Well... be gentle." She smiled at that.

~

A few weeks later, a mysterious soul appeared in Khrysalis, which caused Ashley to go check it out. She arrived as a rather familiar face and non-familiar face clashed swords. They held long enough for her to scan them. Dyvim, her great ally that held the fort here from the darkness, and a boy that look a lot like Rachel that looked more prepared for close combat action, his weapon and armor giving her an Empyrea idea. She finally called out as they locked eyes.

"Dyvim!" He snapped back out of the clash almost on point of the shout. All weapons vanished and both boys looked over at her. Dyvim then sighed and relaxed.

"Ashley! Good to see you!" She eyed the boy as he paused. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm searching for a mysterious signal that arrived. Would either of you know where it is or am I summoning a blizzard?"

~

It was revealed that the young boy was the newcomer and his appearance had a reason for such a similarity. Keith Mistsong, Rachel's twin. He had arrived to look into some training for something and Dyvim had it.

"Wisp?" Dyvim nodded as he summoned a Mana wisp into his hands.

"A force that can either be a remedy or a curse. Creation or Chaos. It is something that should not be disturbed, yet must have a reason for summoning. In all aspects, Wisp magic is a direct balance of a neutral force between light and dark. It is a force to be reckoned with." He let the wisp dance away, joining all the others in the area. Keith smiled at the little action before Ashley looked at him.

"Mistsong. I heard that name once too many times. Where's your father?" He paused.

"Home... He's told me and Rachel that we'd go and learn our paths. And we went to go find our lessons and here we are." She huffed softly, cursing her stepfather. She could have his head if she could beat him. "Why?"

"Rainbowrunner." He stopped as she summoned a snowflake into her hand. "And a Mistsong wants a little rematch."

~

She still had one complaint. Mostly about his skill.

Upon meeting up with Zivax, her dear Death and Spirit Stepfather, she was afraid. No one had beaten him and this was stressful. So she tried her hand at his challenge, utterly failing. Ashley groaned a little before the older Mistsong sat down.

"Why such battle?"

"Just seeing my chances. Hey... heard you let you kids run free."

"Most part. I... want kids to see their future and more..." She smiled as he closed his eyes and sucked in a deep breath, calming every nerve in his system and relaxing his no doubt racing mind. "Why you come?"

"Just to learn why you let your kids go. But I see good faith in that." She then sighed as she looked at him. "I hope you and your part of the family hold to their name."

"Of course. No one let down unless Mercy Kill." His eyes dulled at the thought. "Only Mercy Kill brings us down as such."

(Trials of Pixiedust)

Ashley's breath froze when Mindy uttered such a sentence that she thought it was impossible. In fact, she thought she was dreaming. But she knew she wasn't.

"I accept it."

Nolan was actually checking her. Almost no one heard Mindy, so she let Ashley's crisis get the room to go quiet.

"Ashley? What's wrong?" Her eyes had gone wide as she stared at her fellow Ice partner. Her voice wasn't even there when she spoke.

"W-what?" Duncan followed her gaze before he spoke.

"What was said?" Mindy purred before standing up, giving the idea to Ashley that she was not joking about this.

"I'll repeat myself, but now that all can hear me, I'll do it properly." Ashley sank in her spot as Mindy took a deep breath. "I, Mindy Pixiecrown, as a member of the Ice School and proud Guardian of the Frost Flower Garden, accept the Pixiedust Trials."

Ashley had fallen silent as an eerie feeling filled the room. The others exchanged looks before Ceren spoke.

"I'm sorry?" Mindy waited before Ashley slowly got to her feet, her legs shaking with a heavy feeling.

"Alright... fine. The challenge is simple. 19 siblings, Starting in the secrets of Krokotopia to the faintly explored Lemuria. You must complete their challenge, defeat them and connect to the Frost Flower of their aura. Once you have been successful, you must find the final Frost Flower within the family home and bring it to full bloom in order to complete the challenge. Understood?" Mindy nodded rather bravely as Duncan got to his feet.

"Wait... you can't force that upon her!" Mindy was the one to speak, not breaking eye contact with Ashley.

"She can't. But she has no choice since the challenge has been summoned. And there's nothing you can do to stop it."

(Tales of Dove)

(These are just some of the many)

"Ma-eve!" Maeve, who knew her poor stepsister was trying so hard to say her name correctly, gave a soft sigh as she glanced at Saffron.

"Yes?" She gave a pouted face as she sat down beside her in the cabin.

"Kymma's pickin' on me. Can't deal with her without her twin appearing outta thin air." Maeve glanced at her.

"You want me to talk to her?"

"I can't! And Cuz won't talk to me after I accidentally ruined his ritual." The Sharpshooter sighed before she grabbed the shoulder of the sneaky girl. The poor thing was always in trouble, whether she liked it or not.

"What about Alex?"

"He said to wait till we docked... but I can't go into me room wit'out her stopping me. And I wanted to sharpen me blades." Maeve smiled softly. "Please, Ma-eve? I just want alone time..." She rubbed the younger girl's back with a hum.

"Alright. Let's go."

~

Upon landing in Port Regal, Maeve felt everything closing in on them. So she kept a close eye out until they were surrounded by Redcoats. Weapons taken and they were forced into the Governor's office. Not for long. She gently tugged her spare rifle out of her bag as the Governor went on a little rant.

"It seems that Avery can't keep troublemakers in check."

"We are part of Team Dove-"

"I don't care. You'll be put be-"

"Shut up." They all turned as Maeve aimed the rifle at him. "And if any Redcoat moves to take this gun, I will fire and hit your leader. So stay where you are and listen up so no one has to die." They fell silent as she continued. "Sir, we are part of Team Dove, led by the famous Silent Devin Dove. I, alongside with my companions, are related to Devin in ways that make us her practical family. If you think you can cage us, you are wrong. Because Devin is in a place that she needs help out of. And if you want the strongest Buccaneer to return and help move your ships around once more, you are going to let us go, give back our weapons and leave us alone. If not, Devin's not coming back to save you from the hell you're about to go into. So choose your next words wisely or I'll have a letter sent to the Queen."

It was seconds after when the others came to their senses. She had gotten them back to the ship and gotten the supplies needed so Alex could set off. She was now in her part of the cabin, cleaning her guns that were sabotaged and refueling her ammo. Footsteps pulled her attention.

"Hey." She turned to see Remmy standing there. "What the hell was that for?"

"Rule #1, always carry a spare weapon in case the primary gets taken." She then loaded the weapons and put them in their respective spots before continuing. "As an Elfirth, we are Marleybone born sharpshooters. So they were about to take an innocent ally into custody. And I wasn't letting the rest of my family fall with me. Let them tremble."

~

Mycin had his place well in Cool Ranch. He was able to get them gun and sword testing to know where they stood. The only one they couldn't help was Saffron due to her typical fighting style of sneak and hide. So they were traveling to Mooshu to search for something there. In which, they found someone willing to train her. She came racing back with a smile that lit up the night.

"How'd it go?" She smiled as she giggled.

"Good! I think I can handle fight now! No more hiding!" They grinned at that.

~

The battle in Valencia was horrific. Alex snapped and took over most of the Skyway while Remmy led the Siblings into combat against the Inner Court that had arrived (All but one was there). Saffron scanned the two battlefields before she turned to the main hideout. She could feel Devin from there. Their goal. She then scanned around until she spotted a small sail boat, one that Alex said was for smaller travel. It couldn't take a hit, but if Alex had pulled all the aggro... She turned to Remmy, who had pulled back a little to heal.

"Rem... I can sense Dev." He glanced at her as he caught his breath before seeing her plan. He gulped.

"Be careful."

She nodded before sheathing her daggers and jumping onto the sailboat. Her sword was out and cutting her free, quickly getting her out of the firing line. She gave one look back as the others continued the battle, swords clashing, guns firing and spells casting. She couldn't screw up for her team. Not even once.

(The Power We Hold)

"NO!"

Ashley had to be held back by her siblings as Nolan was hit. Who cares if he was a jerk? That was her boyfriend and the only thing keeping her safe from Duncan. The sad excuse for a Death Wizard purred as he floated down, causing her to go from getting held back to hiding behind her siblings.

"Ashley... it's alright..."

"You murdered him!"

"I did no such thing." His smile wasn't helping him. "I will keep you safe from the real attackers." She trembled before a blast hit Duncan in the back. He whipped around to see Nolan and Malory landing. Ashley gasped as Malory scoffed.

"You made a grave mistake, kid. Let's show him how it's done, brother." Nolan simply grunted before they slammed their staffs to the ground. The ground vanished underneath Duncan before he vanished and the cracks closed up. Ashley only waited for the ground to close up before racing over and jumping into Nolan's arms.

"Don't do that..." Nolan didn't respond. He simply hugged her close, not giving her a chance to pull away. But that didn't matter. He finally spoke, his tone worrying her.

"Let's go home." She paused. It was far too quiet for Nolan. But he had already fallen silent and was carrying her to safety.

~

They were in the middle of an argument when it hit.

Devin caught Remmy as he blacked out and an aura encased the ship. She almost didn't know it was there until she heard Remmy slowly regain himself to a half awake state.

"bones... alike... worse... can't..." She paused as she kept rubbing his back, trying to pull his attention from the aura. She even started whispering into his ear, her voice slowly trying to get him back. That's when a half familiar voice hit the air.

"You assholes." She turned to see Alex as he stormed down from his spot at the wheel. What was he doing? Remmy's voice returned as he trembled.

"foul souls... too much... can't...." She paused as she realized something was more than just Remmy blacking out. She picked him up before hissing to Alex.

"Pull out." He didn't even turn to her as he snapped his fingers, which got the cannons to fire upon the enemy ship. She froze as her ears caught Alex utter something to no one, or was she just not able to see it.

"Next time, they'll hardly see that." She didn't move as Remmy shifted in her grip. She finally spoke, much louder than before.

"Alex?" He must've been pulled from whatever trance he was in because he shook his head a little bit.

"Huh?" She laid Remmy down before she went over and grabbed his arm. She pulled him over before picking up Remmy again and getting them to bed. After settling them down, she went out and took over the ship, just to get to the nearest docks.
