Duncan and Nolan

Why the Crew Actually doesn't Trust you

(Duncan and Nolan)

Nolan looked pale while you were working through Cyclops Cavern. And the reason was found when you released the trapped students.

"Were you even concerned?!"

He sank into his spot, tears running down his face as he clutched his ears. His staff almost looked like it aged as he suddenly turned into someone completely different. Bonnie Anne finally stopped the group of 3's assault as they got ready for another round.

"Leave him alone. We have far worse problems to focus on."

"He is a far worse problem-"

"Bonnie, hold your fire." The others turned to you at that point. Bonnie had, indeed, locked and loaded her rifle, ready to shoot the trio's next move.

"Um-"

"Yeah, you're right. He's far worse problems. He's doing better than the three of you, so shut up." Nolan gave a small smile as he got to his feet.

~

Duncan's face seemed to light up at the sound of Nolan's name while your crew was in Triton's Well.

"I should shoot those three. Nolan's a good kid and was doing great during our fights."

"Cut them some slack, Bonnie. You can shoot them later."

~

Nolan's eyes sparkled as you allowed him to join your crew. It was going to be his first time out of Wizard City and he was nervously. Luckily, Duncan calmed him down and made sure he would get some rest whenever he returned to reassure the Myth Wizard.

~

When you returned to seek out clues on the Eye of History, you let Nolan rest with Duncan while you spoke to the Frogfather. When you picked him up to go to Malistare's House, you caught this look of fear upon Duncan's face as he ran to get something.

~

You learned after you found the Death Professor's Diary why he panicked. He confronted the crew as you were about to leave. Old Scratch stopped the others as he hummed.

"We have company." You paused before turning to the door, the only way into the large study. Indeed, someone stood there, blocking the door. Nolan froze up before calling out.

"Duncan?" The Death Wizard must've went to get the gear he was now wearing as he had changed. He took a steady breath before speaking in a soft voice.

"You're not leaving with that Diary." Nolan held it close to his chest as Duncan gulped. "So hand it over." Bonnie Anne stepped in front of the shaking boy as he lost his strength.

"You're going through us." Ratbeard pulled out his sword while Bonnie's gun clicked. Your weapon almost purred in your hand El Toro stayed by Nolan's side so that Old Scratch could step forward. Duncan made a noise before his staff glowed.

"Don't say I didn't warn you."

~

Your first companion managed to slay Duncan, who in which just simply disappeared into a void with a hiss. Nolan sat down as Bonnie ran over. She glanced at you as you hummed.

~

Duncan seemed to avoid the crew when they returned, so Nolan freaked out. Bonnie did her best to keep him calm, but he still was on high alert until Ratbeard spoke.

"There he is." Nolan instantly followed his gaze to find the Death Wizard, who was curled up under a small tree, his torso bandaged up as he shuddered. Clearly he hadn't fully recovered as he looked sick. Nolan turned to you as you smiled.

"Go check him. We'll meet you at the World Door." He gave a grateful smile before running over to the Death Wizard, who hadn't moved too far.

"Captain-"

"Leave it. It might keep him quiet while we travel."

~

Later, you went looking for the Wizard City Cabal Agent. Mellori suggested Duncan after hearing the initials of G and D while Nolan backlashed. They argued the whole way to his house and honestly, you enjoyed it. However, hearing Nolan's excitement upon seeing the Death Wizard was so much more worth it.

"Duncan!" He ran over to the resting male as he hugged his stomach lightly. Mellori paused as she turned to you.

"Do we trust him?" You paused as you tipped your head to the side.

"It got quiet... so yes." The Life Wizard gave a look as you joined them, in which Duncan had pushed Nolan away after he accidently hugged his wound too hard. Nolan was trying to apologize while Duncan was trying to wave it off.

After getting the details that Duncan wasn't Cabal (And him saying that his initials were DG, not GD like what they had), he seemed to watch the crew as you left. You scanned his face as realization crossed his face and he grabbed his stuff. Was that connected to you?

~

Yes it was.

Upon locking combat with Gretta, she sent an all hit that almost hit everyone. Luckily, many shields went up, but from the corner of your eye, you saw something block for Nolan. You didn't have time to check what it was as Gretta hissed.

"You!" The figure pulled the Myth Wizard into a void, vanishing just as the Alchemist sent another round of hits. You hissed as you called a charge.

~

After banishing the witch, Bonnie freaked out.

"Where's Nolan?" You eyed the spot Nolan had been before something blocked Gretta's spell. Gretta knew who it was and the void was familiar. Was that what Duncan's face meant?

"Mellori, head back and tell the headmaster. Take the crew with you." The room looked at you like you were nuts.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"I'll catch up with you guys once I fix this. But I need to do this alone."

~

You arrived at Duncan's house and were able to enter with ease. The two boys were at the bottom of the stairs, the Death Wizard completely knocked out while Nolan didn't dare move to wake him. He saw you and smiled as you went over.

Later, Duncan was able to talk. Nolan kept a steady grip on his shoulder to steady him as you listened (No Spoilers for Dialogue. Please ask for them). You then offered him a spot on the crew, knowing well that between his weak state and how dangerous it'll start getting for their connection, they could lose each other. Duncan agreed, though both you and Nolan had to work together to help him back to the others. The crew understood once you explained what Duncan said and actually helped him get comfortable.

(Hell of Arguments)

"Wait... wait... wait... Him?"

Poor Ashley was laughing her head off as she curled up into a ball. You, your crew, the scholars and the other faculty were currently talking about how you were breaking into Empyrea. Your idea of teleporting didn't get many votes, so a ship was selected to send you in. However, since you had no clue where this place was, a ship captain was getting selected to help you get there. After Devin had said her boyfriend was not an option, they went for Taylor Coleridge, who you remember leaving in Khrysalis. Nolan paused.

"Wait... are we talking about the guy that helped us across a dangerous sea, through enemy territory, and got us an 'at-the-time' ally just to pay us back for dealing with some ghosts of his crew?" Unless you were Duncan or you joined the crew after Khrysalis, you and the crew lost it. Nolan went quiet as he paused. "I am right though."

"At-the-time ally? That's what you're calling it?"

"Yes." Duncan raised an eyebrow as you regained breath.

"Then yes. That's exactly the guy we're talking about." Devin paused.

"At-the-time ally?" You and Nolan locked eyes as the others regained their breath.

"Who's saying it?" Nolan's eyes widened at your question.

"Not it. You should say it."

"As the captain, I will not." Ratbeard rolled his eyes.

"At-the-time, meaning right now the guy's our enemy. Was helpful against Morganthe, but that's it." Velma caught on.

"Oh, Spider?" Ratbeard chuckled.

"It was Old Cob 'at-the-time', but yes." Bonnie scoffed.

"Coleridge's fault, technically. But still. Do we know where he went after he left us in that chamber?"

"Polaris."

"Fuck."

~

"Double fuck."

Nolan had to "borrow" Duncan's shoulder to hide his laughter as you looked at the two pigs you had saved. Coleridge was unconscious while Pork, the the pig who had needed saving, got them to Empyrea. So you went to look for him, finding him and his medic, Beans, in Cool Ranch. And you had no words for what Nolan had just remarked.

"We're going into alien territory with pigs. And I thought Wysteria was bad."

Which catches us up to now.

"Nolan Stormgate, I'm going to send you into a Black Hole if you're not careful." His chuckling got harder to contain as he buried his face in the Death Wizard's shoulder. "Mr. Stormgate, you'd better stop before I make that threat real." Nolan finally doubled over in laughter as he hugged Duncan, who looked so confused. "The next Black Hole I see, you're going in."

~

"So... who thought this through?"

Nolan raised an eyebrow as you scanned the crew.

"Ratbeard has all the plans."

"Yes, but that's not my question."

"Bonnie did it."

"Listen here, you over sized rat-"

"Ladies-"

Currently, the crew was just outside Medulla's room and Bat's face said it all. You eyed the group as Chaos ensued. Bat finally looked at you as a satisfied grin crossed your face.

"Are you kidding?"

"I don't think the Cabal wants to come over here." Bat groaned softly as you clapped your hands together. "You know what? I'll figure it out later. I'm breaking down a door." The others made sure to check their weapons/decks before joining you.

(Why the Crew Actually doesn't Trust you)
(I'm making "you" a Storm/Musketeer)

The others eyed you as your gun sent several shots at Fin and the Armada. You almost didn't stop for a moment there, your guns shifting out every so often as they ran out of powder. Fin blanked out somewhere in middle of the first set of shots, so the Armada were still getting shot at. Finally, your last set of guns clicked, marking that they ran out of powder. They others gulped as the robots dropped to the ground. Fin stayed hidden as you went over and grabbed the map piece in silence.

~

They watched you again as you sent a large Tempest at Gretta, making sure she got the picture. Bonnie actually led the others outside as you cleaned up.

~

Finally, Ratbeard said it. You had finished cleaning and setting up your guns when he spoke.

"Captain? Can we talk?" You glanced at him before nodding. "Do you not have a violence filter?"

"Huh?" Bonnie gulped.

"Guess not."

"What's a Violence Filter?"

"A Violence Filter is a a filter that hides violence." Seeing your face made the others sigh. "Like Bonnie. She's got the strongest violence filter on this crew." You glanced at her before you paused.

"Then... yeah. I do. As you could see in Monquista, I didn't kill anyone."

"Yeah, but what about Gretta? Fin and the Armada? You went off." You shrugged.

"They made a wrong move and pissed me off. That's different."

"No it's not."

~

Kane got a storm. Between your guns and your spells, the others had to change targets while you tore the leader down. When you were done, Bonnie spoke.

"And this is why we don't trust you. You are violent."
