The Early Burd...
World: Oblivion
Status: Old and unfinished
Why I wrote it: Let me just say that I don't plan on keeping that title lmao but I needed something for it. It just came to me to give a little different perspective on the beginning of the game.

Summary: An ordinary man with an ordinary life is met with an extraordinary task: guarding the Emperor of Tamriel. It's no simple feat, and, in the end, is an impossible one. Afterwards, he is asked to guard the Hero of Kvatch, and play an immense role that history will never credit him for.
Chapter one:
Tappius Laecus never wished for fame. He already had everything he could ever wish for; a loving wife, a son, and a good paying job. He was second-in-command to the Guard Captain in Bruma, Captain Burd. He had just bought a shabby little house for his family when Burd came up to him.
"You heard of the Blades?" Burd had asked him one day as he prepared to leave his shift.
"A little, sir. Aren't they the protectors of the Emperor or something?"
"Yes. Well the head of them, Jauffre, said he needs new recruits, and so I recommended
you."
Tappius had been more than a little surprised. Sure, he had hoped for a raise at some point, but this? However, he didn't want to let his Emperor down, and the next day he was sent to Cloud Ruler Temple.
There he was given a new set of armor and an Akiviri Katana, then was immediately sent with a few other Blades to escort the Emperor somewhere. He hadn't even been able to tell his wife where he was going. As they rode horses to the Imperial City, Tappius thought of his wife at home. Burd had promised to tell her about his "promotion" and that he was safe, but Tappius knew she would worry.
Her name was Setila, and he had met her when he was sent to raid a bandit fort. They had kept her captive and violated her for sport. She had no home, and Tappius offered to provide her shelter until she got back on her feet. She had been weary of him at first because of her traumatizing experience, but soon realized he had good intentions. After a year, they had fallen in love. She was a Dunmer with shiny black hair and red eyes, with scars criss-crossing all over her body. She was tough and carried a dagger with her always now, and had found a good job at the Fighter's Guild, going off every two weeks to do a few assignments. Their son, Fedave, was born with a twisted leg and learning disabilities. He was 5 years old soon and could barely string a few words together. Tappius loved them both with all of his heart, and accepted that his son had difficulties. Both were beautiful in his eyes.
And now here he was, running with his fellow Blades up the stairs to where the Emperor was standing.
At approach, Tappius copied the other Blades and bowed, then the leader of the group, Captain Renault, spoke.
"Sir, we must get you out of here..." Emperor Uriel Septim II held up his hand for silence.
"Lead on." He said, the calm in his voice powerful. Renault nodded and started to run towards the gate to the Imperial Prisons, and everyone followed.
Renault led them to the cells, where she stopped in confusion and turned to a prison guard who had followed us.
I leaned over to see what the matter was when, to my horror, I saw a prisoner.
In our escape route.
This was going to get interesting.
