"Kasai?"
Kasai barely managed to open her eyes just long enough to see a few blurry figures hovering over her. She then had to close them again.
"Kasai, vake up! Are you okay?"
That accent... ...it was so familiar, but Kasai couldn't place her finger on it just yet.
"Kasai, please...be ze warrior I know you are und vake up!"
She finally opened her eyes fully. Her vision was still blurry for a moment. She blinked a few times to clear the picture in front of her.
"Are you okay? Kasai, can you hear me?"
This voice was...unfamiliar, to say the least. It was almost strange.
"Ugh...I...I can hear you...barely..." Kasai groaned.
She barely managed to make the blurry shapes out.
She could recognize her Uncle Hitze, but she wasn't sure who the other three were. The mask that the one girl was wearing was familiar, though.
"Zank goodness you are okay!"
"Okay is...a bit of an understatement..."
"Are you hurt?" the youngest girl said, concerned.
"I...don't know..."
It was then she remembered.
"Fuego...where's Fuego!?"
"Don't vorry, he's not far. He is still unconscious, zough..."
"I-is he hurt?"
"...unfortunately, very..."
That's all Kasai needed to hear. She struggled to get up, but the two younger ones held her down.
"No, you need to rest!" the boy protested. "You're weak..."
"I'm not weak! I'm the daughter of a warrior!" she protested, struggling more.
"He means you got your energy drained out of you, not that you're really weak." the girl clarified. "He wasn't trying to insult you. We know you're probably strong when you're in your right mind..."
"I am in my right mind, and I wanna see my brother!"
"Those two are right, though. It's best to rest." the masked girl muttered. The mask distorted her voice. "You blacked out from losing too much energy."
Hitze nodded once. "You fought vell, and I'm proud of you, but you need to rest to regain your strength."
"But...Fuego..."
"Fuego vill be fine."
"No...h-he's hurt!"
"...her..mana...?" a weak voice called from not too far away.
Kasai's attention snapped over.
"Fuego!?" She barely managed to break free from the grasp of the two holding her down and rushed over in the direction of the voice, but collapsed shortly after making it over.
Fuego was barely conscious, his eyes cracked open.
Kasai managed to get close enough to him to give him a tight hug. He weakly snuggled closer to her.
The two of them shared a moment cuddled together in silence while Hitze and the others caught up.
"Wow, even when you're weak, you're strong." the boy joked.
Kasai gave him a playful glare as she caressed Fuego's hair, coaxing him back to sleep. She seemed to calm down now that she was reunited with him.
The masked girl gave a small smile, though no one could see. Her mind drifted back to the past for a moment.
"NOW vill you get some rest?" Hitze urged.
Kasai glanced up at him. "..but I-"
"No buts, you stubborn child! You need rest!"
She averted her eyes. Her vision started blurring again, making her blink tiredly. Her eyelids drooped as she finally drifted back to sleep as well, still snuggled with Fuego.
Hitze sighed with relief as he looked at his niece and nephew peacefully sleeping together.
"...you three VILL guide zem out safely after at least one of zem wakes up, right?" he asked, looking back at the three.
The masked girl snapped out of her thoughts. "...right. We'll make sure they get out safely."
"Zank you so much. For everyzing."
"Don't worry about it, it's our pleasure."
Hitze gave a brief nod before leaving again.
The three kept their eye on the sleeping siblings, making sure no enemies came to harm them.
