It wasn't long before a commotion occurred. A man the size of an ant took Steve's shield off Peter and returned it to its owner. The man was made visible when he enlarged to his normal size, Steve calling him Scott Lang. His suit was a deep maroon with a gas mask encasing his head and face. He stepped to be beside Johnny and Steve, before Sam arrived with Wanda, Clint and Bucky Barnes. Steve's team was lined up, facing against Tony's who weren't expecting an easy fight.
T'Challa faced Bucky, whose reason for turning in the HYDRA agent was the biggest of them all. Natasha faced Clint, who made a comment on his lack of retirement despite his insistence to step away from the world of agents and fighting superhumans. Rhodey faced Sam, who were both prepared to take their battle into the sky. Vision, who was the last to insert himself into the battle, faced Wanda, the two hesitant to face off against each other. Peter faced Scott Lang and the two resisted the urge to joke about their similarities to bugs. Sue faced Johnny, the woman ignoring the dread in her stomach from Johnny's pleading expression. And Tony faced Steve, the leaders wishing it didn't have to come to this.
'What do we do, Cap?' Sam asked without looking away from Rhodey. Steve looked along the row of people he considered his friends. He couldn't let them take Bucky. The quinjet was nearby, ready to take Bucky out of sight for the crimes he didn't commit. If it meant he had to fight through a wall of Avengers, he would.
'We fight...' Steve knew he would regret his words.
'This is gonna end well,' Natasha mumbled.
Each team began to take steps towards each other. Peter looked from side to side, checking that he was in line with Tony. Sue's strides were long and each time her heel encountered the runway, her heart dropped further into her stomach. Her eyes never left Johnny, whose flames smoked through his suit. The Storms were determined, but reluctant. This wasn't a normal, playful fight that they used to have when they were kids. The times had changed, and justice was at stake. Johnny knew the truth about Bucky and would stick by Steve's decisions until he physically couldn't any longer. Sue would do the same for her finace, as the man was doing what he could to keep the peace with the Secretary of State, and for the betterment of the Earth's people.
'They're not stopping,' Peter mentioned as they each broke into a run.
'Neither are we,' Tony activated his thrusters and repulsors, taking flight to then come down on to Steve with speed and accuracy.
As Tony's fist collided with Steve's shield, the fight broke out among friends and allies. When one blocked another's attack, someone else intervened from the opposite team. Sue was adamant on being the one to take on Johnny, who leapt into the air and encased in his inferno. She held up her arm to keep a forcefield around her front, while conjuring spheres of shimmering blue through her free hand. She reared her arm back to gain momentum on each throw, the spheres shooting up at her brother who hovered above. Johnny dodged her attacks by moving to the left and right, hesitantly sending flashes down to startle her.
'We're going to have to have a serious talk after this about our play fighting,' Johnny called down.
'I know a therapist downtown,' Sue mentioned, breaking into a roll when Clint's arrow was fired in her direction. The tip whizzed past her, and Johnny took advantage of the distraction to send a ball of fire her way.
'That hurt, you dick!' she cried. The flames flared past her and singed her thigh, the suit protecting her for the most part. But a slight burn made its way through the material, the hot sensation making her wince.
'I'm sorry!' Johnny halted in his attacks. 'It's a little hard when we're meant to be fighting.'
Sue was irritated from the burn and threw her head down in head-banging motion, sending a wave of invisibility in return. The wave hit Johnny and he was thrown back, losing his balance in the air. Vision appeared from the side and tackled him while he was distracted, the being sending the Storm into the side of an unprovoked aeroplane.
While Johnny created a burning hole on the capsule of the plane, Sue was winded off her feet from a scarlet mist. She let out a yelp and groaned at the pain in her back, rolling over to get to her feet. Sue caught the next attack in her hands, the red blast encased in a ball of light blue in. Wanda's eyes glowed at the woman who was the only one who could stop her attacks.
Sue fell into a back and forth with Wanda. The two threw blue and red at each other, dodging and creating forcefields at a speed that the others couldn't comprehend. Peter caught sight of the women who became a blur of their powers, the boy in awe at the superhumans. He let out at a 'woah', before having a terminal dropped on him by Steve.
'Wanda-' Sue disappeared to avoid a whizz of red wind, before appearing a few feet to the left. '-you of all people can stop this!'
'Tony locked me away! Like a child!' Wanda fought. Sue felt her body being lifted and looked down, seeing the scarlet dancing up from her legs. She was thrown by Wanda and collided with Peter, who swung on his web after Steve.
'Oof!' Peter let out, the woman hitting him before he could create another web to grab. The boy was able to send a shot from his blasters to create a net between a terminal and a plane. A web formed in its stretched-out pattern and the two landed in its grasp. Sue felt the substance stick to her red suit and groanted at the multiple aches in her body.
'Are you okay, Miss Storm?' Peter propped himself up on his elbow. He looked at the woman next to him, his eyes holes slanted in worry.
'I'm fine. Thanks, Parker,' she winced and looked up, seeing mixes of orange and red heading in their direction. 'Incoming!'
Peter and Sue jumped off the web, the flames disintegrating it to cinders. While Peter swung around with a new web attached to a nearby terminal, Sue landed in a crouch with her hand against the runway to balance her landing. She pulled her head up, pieces of her hair falling out of her bun and into her face. Johnny hovered in the air while Peter swing circles around him, attempting to wrap him in his webs. But they were incinerated before they could touch his frame, his fires blazing through the glutinous material.
'Sorry, Miss Storm! I can't do much here!' Peter called out to Sue, leaping to avoid the streams of fire Johnny sent his way.
Sue held her hands up and willed a forcefield to enclose around her brother, the ball of clear blue sealing him inside. Johnny looked around and tried to send his inferno outwards, but the barrier only quivered at his attempts. Sue made sure to keep one hand up as she looked to her right and saw Tony's suit malfunctioning. He was about to be impended on by Sam, who flew down with Rhodey on his tail.
'I don't want to have to supernova this, Susie!' Johnny's muffled voice came through the forcefield. He was hesitant to flare too hot at the likelihood of hurting Sue, but she was leaving him no choice.
Sue threw her one hand to Tony, managing to make half a dome form around him. Sam bounced off the invisible barrier and Rhodey was able to catch up, finishing the job and firing him off into the distance. Johnny sighed and flared his temperature to a searing degree, the barrier breaking into pieces around him. The combination of its demolishment, Sam colliding with the forcefield, and Scott Lang suddenly enlarging to a behemoth, was all too much for Sue.
With what FRIDAY could calculate, Tony's screen displayed Sue's suit while he stared up at the giant Scott Lang in shock. Through his awe and the many warning signs of malfunction that flooded his vision, he caught sight of the red that lit up over the diagram of Sue's suit. He turned his head and saw Johnny lower to the runway, his fires diminishing, and his face covered in worry. Tony watched him drop to his knees to Sue's side, who sat on the floor with her hand on her stomach and her eyes scrunched shut in anguish.
'FRIDAY? What's the analysis on Sue?!' Tony called as he flew over, hearing Peter announce that he caught a falling Rhodey. His thrusters cut as he landed next to Sue and Johnny, and he saw the blood that leaked out of her nose.
'I'm sorry, sir, my systems are damaged. I can only conclude that something is wrong,' FRIDAY said, and Tony crouched down beside his fiancé.
'Yeah, I also concluded that,' he retored, his mask lifting to reveal his face as Johnny panicked at his sister's reaction.
'What did I do?! I tried to contain it-'
'Contain what?!'
'The supernova! I-I didn't mean to...'
Tony whipped his head to the Storm and prepared to kick his thrusters into action. His eyes filled with fury at Johnny's idiocrasy to attempt supernova; the Stark itching to lift his repulsor and fire it at point blank. But Sue's voice intervened, and his attention was dragged away from his target.
'I-I'm okay... I just...' Sue glanced at the space between the two to see Scott flurry around with Vision flying in circles. He used the gem in his forehead to stop Steve and Bucky from running into the hanger, the control collapsing and heading for their destination. Wanda attempted to hold its debris, but let it drop when Rhodey sent sonic disruptors through her head. She screamed and the control tower fell through the hanger, but Steve and Bucky already made it into the quinjet.
'Do you see all of this?!' Tony gestured to the mess as he glared at Johnny. 'Steve is doing this for a fugitive! A murderer!'
'He's not! H-He's innocent!' Johnny fought and Tony cussed.
'Either you stay here with her, or I take you out myself!' Tony pointed to Sue before his mask closed, flying off to help Rhodey and Peter take out Scott in a Empire-Strikes-Back fashion.
Johnny watched Scott's monstrous form fall from their cooperation, before he turned back to Sue. She laid while panting, hand to her stomach as pain continued to swirl around inside. She assumed that she exerted herself too much when protecting both Tony and encasing Johnny all at once. And her concentration was wavered from Scott's enlargement. However, she had never felt this pain in her stomach before. It was as if a knife had been driven through her organs and was left there.
Her hand came up to wipe at her bleeding nose and she was able to meet Johnny's guilt-filled eyes. His crouched position allowed her to see a quinjet break through the debris of the hanger and control tower, flying off with Rhodey, Tony and Sam on its tail. Steve and Bucky had gotten away, and the two teams paused their fighting. Peter and Scott laid on the floor in a heap, while Wanda and Vision came together to apologise for their fighting. T'Challa was betrayed by Natasha, who remained in the hanger after she let Steve and Bucky get away. Clint collected his arrows with his expression regretful, wishing he had stayed in retirement.
'I'm sorry, Susie,' Johnny said as he shook his head in grief. 'Steve's my friend and Bucky's innocent. I swear by it. I had to help. I said that I couldn't go up against you, and Steve knew that, but...'
'It's okay,' Sue took a deep breath and felt the pain ease slightly. 'I'm sure we can look past this.'
'I don't think Stark will, though.'
