Director Fury looked away from Sue who still waited for an explanation. She was angry, confused and hurt. The file shook in her hand as she knew there was a bigger problem being discussed and she would have to wait for answers. She took a breath and finally turned her gaze to Tony. He stood across the room and itched for her to tell him what she found, but he would also have to wait. The two shared a look before turning to Director Fury who opened his mouth after a long pause.

'Because of him,' he pointed to Thor.

'Me?' he pointed to himself in confusion.

'Last year, Earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that levelled a small town,' Fury explained. 'We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously, outgunned.'

'My people want nothing but peace with your planet-'

'But you're not the only people out there, are you?' Director Fury stared his eye intensely at the demi-god. 'And you're not the only threat. The world's filling up with people who can't be matched. They can't be controlled.'

'Like you controlled the cube?' Steve piped up.

'Your work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it, and his allies. It is the signal to all the realms that the Earth is ready for a higher form of war,' Thor warned.

'You forced our hand,' Fury fought back. 'We had to come up with something.'

'Nuclear deterrent,' Tony brought himself into the equation and Sue knew it would was about to get messier. ''Cause that always calms everything right down.'

The back and forth continued and it wasn't long until Steve and Tony turned on each other. Sue was about to step in when Thor mentioned something about mistrust in recruitments to Fury. She couldn't help but intervene and try to get more answers out of the director who was avoiding her eye.

'Potential threats shouldn't be the people you're relying on to save you,' Sue said through the arguing going on around the room. 'And since when did threats become people who don't exist anymore.'

'Storm, what you've seen in there can be explained. It's our responsibility as 'unenhanced' humans to know what's out there,' Fury put his hands on his waist.

'Unenhanced? I hardly think that's the word for you people,' she scoffed. 'How is Captain America a potential threat to an advanced corporation that apparently can go into space and-'

'You're on that list?' Tony cut in as he looked at Steve. 'Are you above or below angry bees?'

'I swear to God, Stark, one more crack-'

'Threatening! I feel threatened!'

Sue could feel herself getting angrier and angrier. A surge of energy rushed to her hands that sat by her sides. The familiar blue sheen flared around her fists and her glare to Director Fury was lethal. Everyone was yet to notice as they argued between themselves, but Sue suddenly realised what she was about to do. She looked down to her hands and willed the flares to dissolve, not realising how angry and unhinged she felt.

'You speak of control, yet you court chaos,' Thor scoffed.

'It's his M.O., isn't it?' Bruce said. 'I mean, what are we, a team? No no no, we're a chemical mixture that makes chaos. We're... we're a time-bomb.'

'You need to step away,' Fury cautiously looked at Bruce.

'Why shouldn't the guy let off a little steam?' Tony was heard and put his arm around Steve's shoulder, but the man shrugged it off and pushed him away.

'You know damn well why! Back off!'

'Oh, I'm starting to want you to make me.'

Sue gathered her senses and looked at Loki's scepter that sat innocently on its stand. The ball of blue light that sat at the end gleamed brightly, as if pulsating as it sent out energy. She could see the way everyone in the room got angrier and more frustrated. It was unlike her to even think about using her abilities with the influence of her emotions. She thought she had moved past that and had more control. But seeing how everyone else was arguing, even Bruce who was said to have full control over his emotions, she wasn't the only one who was out of the ordinary.

'The scepter...' she mumbled as the people closet to her went quiet. 'The scepter's active. It's messing with us.'

'Big man in a suit of armour,' Steve ignored Sue as glared down at Tony. 'Take that off, what are you?'

'Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist,' Tony snidely replied with a feign look of boredom on his face.

'I know guys with none of that worth ten of you,' Steve seethed. 'Yeah, I've seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You let her-'

He pointed across the room at Sue.

'-protect you and make her stand off to the side while you save the day. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.'

'I think I would just cut the wire.'

'Always a way out,' Steve smirked humourlessly. 'You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be hero.'

Tony didn't like that Steve brought Sue into this. He saw the way her eyes widened when the man pointed to her and he didn't like that Steve was playing at his weak spot. Steve's eyes showed that he knew how Tony felt about Sue and he didn't like it at all. He couldn't let him get the upper hand and make him look foolish in front of everyone, especially not Sue.

'A hero? Like you?' he started and dropped the nonchalant act. 'You're a lab rat, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle.'

'Put on the suit,' Steve stood up straight. 'Let's go a few rounds.'

'You people are so petty... and tiny,' Thor laughed at the bickering.

'Yeah, this is a team,' Bruce shook his head with a scoff and Director Fury looked to Natasha.

'Agent Romanoff, would you escort Dr. Banner back to his-'

'Where?' Bruce cut him off. 'You rented my room.'

'The cell was just in case-'

'In case you needed to kill me, but you can't, I know, I tried!' the room went quiet as Bruce looked down at the desk under his hands. 'I got low. I didn't see an end, so I put a bullet in my mouth and the other guy spit it out. So, I moved on. I focused on helping other people. I was good, until you dragged me back into this freak show and put everyone here at risk!'

Sue watched as Bruce's hand slipped over the desk and took hold of the scepter behind him. Everyone stiffened and she hoped she wouldn't have to call upon a forcefield the size of the room to prevent casualties.

'You wanna know my secret, Agent Romanoff? You wanna know how I stay calm?!'

Steve took it upon himself to step forward as Natasha prepared to pull her gun out from her holster. The once bickering group realised the danger they could be in and stood silently as Bruce stood with the scepter in hand.

'Dr. Banner... put down the scepter,' Steve said cautiously, and the man looked down, seeing what he was holding. He swallowed and blinked as he put it back down on the desk. There was an awkward silence before the computer monitoring the Tesseract beeped.

'Sorry, kids. You don't get to see my little party trick after all,' Bruce mumbled as he made his way over to the computer.

'Located the Tesseract?' Thor asked.

'I can get there faster,' Tony piped up.

'The Tesseract belongs on Asgard. No human is a match for it,' Thor shook his head but Tony turned to head out anyway. Steve put a hand on his shoulder to stop him.

'You're not going alone!'

'You gonna stop me?'

'Put on the suit, let's find out.'

'That's enough,' Sue couldn't take it anymore. She walked across the room and wanted to pull Tony to the side to discuss going for the Tesseract. But he barely looked at her as he stared up at the man who smirked. Tony knew what Steve was thinking; he knew that Sue would come to his rescue.

'I'm not afraid to hit an old man,' Tony said took a step forward. Sue took precaution and created a barrier between the two, not letting them get any closer to each other. They noticed the shimmer of blue that outlined the forcefield but didn't bother to acknowledge it.

'Put on the suit,' Steve insisted.

'Oh my god...' Bruce was heard and looked up to the group in panic.

An explosion erupted from outside the hanger and glass shattered from the window. The floor underneath Natasha and Bruce gave way and they fell to the level below, while Thor and Director Fury were blown backwards into the wall. Steve and Tony were thrown to the floor, and Sue was sent backwards, the floor collapsing under her as well.

Sue grunted as she collided with a large pipe that ran across the level below. Her back hit the floor and debris fell around her, narrowly missing her head and body. She laid there for a moment as the pain that shot from her back winded her. Deep breaths forced their way out of her mouth, and she pushed to sit up right. She was glad she was in her suit, otherwise the fall would have been more painful.

She caught sight of Natasha and Bruce who fell a few metres away from her. Bruce grunted and growled as Natasha laid on the floor, her leg trapped under a fallen metal beam. Sue watched as Bruce couldn't control his rage for the first time in months and began to morph into what would be The Hulk.
