"Storm!" The yell came,snapping Storm out of his thoughts.
He was in Hoofbeat Meadows,a few paces away from the hill where The Great Oak stood.
"Storm! We're leaving for Sky Ridge,get up here!". It was his older sister,Waterwillow,always worrying about where he was and where he needed to be.
"I'm coming, bird-brain!"He called back,breaking into a gallop up the hill.
"I'm he-"He started but stopped,slamming into someone.
The other horse lunged sideways while Storm planted his feet study under him. They landed with a thud on the grass. And of course, it was the herd's most annoying filly,Darksky.
"Oh! I'm sorry,I didn't see you coming!" She said,standing up.
"It's fine" he snorted,trotting away.
"Well,see you later. . ."
Storm found his way to the front of the herd,where Wildfire was. Wildfire was a two-year-old yearling colt,the only other colt around.
The other two goals were fillies, six-month-old Hazelhoof and one-year-old Darksky.
"Hey Storm" Wildfire said.
"Hey! What do you what to do? The journey to Sky Ridge is always boring".
"Wildfire!" Came a voice from behind them. It was Darksky.
"Uh,I-I gotta go. See you later!"Wildfire muttered,turning away.
"Where are you going? It's Darksky,the annoying filly!"Storm cried.
"Well,I gotta tell you something. I kinda like Darksky".
"What? Why?" Storm whispered,widening his eyes.
"Like I said,see you later"Wildfire said,slipping behind Storm to Darksky.
Storm sighed,watching as Wildfire and Darksky talked and laughed together.
The sound of footsteps came besides him. It was Lavender,her belly heavy with yet another foal.
"Why do you look so mad?" She asked,worry dancing in eyes.
Storm looked up at her."It's just suddenly,Wildfire likes Darksky and wants to hangout with her. He was just saying she was annoying yesterday".
Lavendertail nudged him gently."Storm,that's just how it is. One day,you'll be more interested in the mares and fillies too".
"Here,come walk with me and your father"She added.
He followed her to the front of the herd. His father turned to look at him gloomily.
"Oh no,what's wrong with you now?" His mother teased.
"Wildfire is getting to close to Darksky for my liking".
Lavender snorted."Their one and two years old. Nothing could happen". She flicked her ear.
"Yes,but it is possible. Keep a eye on them for me"Black said. Lavender rolled her eyes.
"Ew! Don't talk about Wildfire and Darksky..." he trailed off,not finding the right words.
"Okay. Let's change the-"his mother started to say.
"Wildfire!" Wildflower screamed.
The whole herd spun around to face Wildfire and Darksky. Darksky lowered her head almost looking afraid of Wildfire.
Wildfire stood still, Storm swore he almost looked pale.
"What did he do?!" Black asked,stepping forward. Wildfire shrank back.
"H-he. . . ." Darksky started. Storm realized she was shaking,he felt a stab of pity for her. Then, he reminded himself it was Darksky.
Darksky didn't finish and slammed herself into her mother,Sagebrush,like a newborn.
Wildfire widened his eyes."Come on,Darksky! It was harmless!".
Wildflower stomped her hoof down on Wildfire's,he winced. "Nonsense! Look how scared you made her! Is that harmless?!".
"It's not my fault she's so wimpy. . ."
Black broke them up."What did Wildfire do?!".
Wildflower stepped forward and whispered something in Black's ear. He widened his eyes and turned to Wildfire,teeth bared.
"You did that? To a one-year-old?!".
"N-no! Uh. . . Yes? It was barely anything! Please don't hurt me!" Wildfire cried.
"Don't worry, I won't hurt you" Black whispered,coming up to the front of the herd.
"Wildfire,you will be punished severely for your actions. But please,join us on the rest of our journey to Sky Ridge" Black growled. Wildfire gulped.
For the next hour, they traveled over the uneven terrain.
Finally,thy reached Sky Ridge,the jagged peaks sticking out of the treetops.
"Now,Wildfire. It's time for your punishment" Black grinned,turning to the herd.
Wildfire looked up helplessly at his mother. She glared down at him and pushed him forward. He stumbled and landed by Black.
"What is my punishment?" He asked in a soft whisper.
Black blinked thoughtfully down at him."Wildfire, there is a time in a young stallion's life when he suddenly finds the mares and fillies more. . . Interesting. But we have to stop this from going on for too long,because the herd already has a lead stallion,who is the only one allowed to give offspring to the herd".
Wildfire nodded slowly."I-I know that. . .".
"Wilfire, today you stand in front of your herd-your family. In front of your mother,your siblings and most importantly,your leader. It's time you walked the hoof prints of many young stallions before you. Wildfire,you are officially banished from this herd".
The herd let out shocked gasps. Storm let his mouth hang up open.
Wildfire let out a cry and fell to the ground."Y-you can't! I'll die out there!".
Black turned to him."No Wildfire, you'll die here".
