To Lyric, many things were simple.

Falling in love with The Cheetah's daughter, Trish Minerva? Simple.

Leaving the Injustice League? Simple.

Joining the Justice League? Simple.

But betraying her friends? Not so simple.

She never wished to betray them in the first place. For the first time she felt like she could have people she could trust and tell her secrets, not even her dad could give her that sense of security.

Speaking of dad...that was the whole reason she was doing this...wasn't it?

Her dad was the Music Meister. He was known for that one stint in Gotham City where everyone was controlled by his song. And he did the same thing to her.

It was a hypnotizing song. A subtle one, one that had been ringing in her ears for weeks before she switched back to the "right" side.

It whispered words in her ear at any time.

Why fight them when you can get them on your side? Her inner voice would ask every time she fought a henchmen.

Why bother helping them? The voice would ask as she and her fellow Justice Leaguers would go out another mission to save the world.

They are lying to you when they say they are your friends. The voice says with insistence as the Justice League sits around a booth in a diner and laugh about their success over greasy burgers and fries.

She'd be lying to herself if it didn't hinder her resolve. It was bad enough that she had been so traumatized as to not use her voice for anything other than singing, but knowing that the voice in her head, the voice that sung that song could be right...it frightened her a little bit.

Especially knowing that she often pondered the same things herself.

The worst times though? What sucked was the voice got loudest around her.

Trish Minerva was one thing in life that Lyric was sure of.

When Lyric had defected to becoming a Justice Leaguer, Trish was the reason she stayed...

And now she was the reason she would leave.

You're a monster.

What happens when you hypnotize her with your song?

You're going to hurt her.

Lyric looked down at Trish's sleeping face the night she left, right before she made the worst decision of her life.

It was easy to find a teleporter to take her to the Injustice League headquarters (this was the Watchtower, after all).

But what happened next was a much bigger pill to swallow.

"What are you doing?" Lyric turned, jumping in fright at the sound Trish's voice.

She cursed herself for not thinking of her being here—Trish was always such a light sleeper.

"I'm going home." Lyric states bluntly and Trish has the most grief stricken look on her face that it almost makes Lyric's heart crack into two.

"Lyric please don't do this! Join our side—join our causes where we can be together!"

She remembers saying to her:

"I'm sorry, darling. But I cannot follow you."

And she remembers what she didn't say:

Goodbye, Trish Minvera. I love you.

Final Notes

Boy that was rough to get through. I'm just glad that I made the two happy in the actual book.

Hope this one-shot is written okay. I was struggling a bit on how to write it. Also I had to take a break from writing it because I was feeling a bit hazy, at the time i binging Castlevania, I don't know if it had anything to do with that :/

Would this be considered third person omniscient? Idk, I always get confused by it.
