No place like Earth, or so we thought

I opened my eyes and stared at the stars. That only seemed to be the only thing that reminded me I was in the real world and that the nightmare I thought was fake is reality. I got up and walked to the bathroom. Everything about this place was keeping me on high alert even when I was sleeping. I could feel when people walked by even if I wasn’t trying to.

Let me start from the beginning though. My name is Lilia Ransom. I’ve just turned sixteen recently and I’ve been taken from my home planet Earth. I have natural blonde hair and blue eyes, a long slender body and apparently I’m the head representatives for humans on earth. Just peachy.

My home planet has fallen apart and they have taken around fifty kids from around the world to come together and want to communicate with us since we are technically “Earth’s future generation”. Why I’m the leader? I don’t freaking know, it could be they have a thing for blonde chicks or they know I can speak, talk, read and write fluently in more than 100 different languages since I’m an army brat and my father was constantly moving to different places.

I never told them that but I know all of the kids are from the ages 4-17 and they can all speak more than one language but use each other to ask questions to others. Are planet has almost destroyed itself with nuclear bombs and at this time people outside our Universe decides to come help by abducting kids around the planet.

I walked out my room and saw a few kids up. They bowed their heads in respect and I nodded my head back. I hate having all the pressure on me but my twin brother is truly the only one that keeps me sane. I walked to the cafeteria since our “oh so glorious” abductors have given us our own apartment building that seems to be “Earth’s headquarters”. We have to attend their schools and since we all somehow know English, including the aliens, we must learn the education of their standards.

The cafeteria has food from all over the world so no one really complains about the food but we all miss the home cooked meals they use to have from their family, not that I would know what that’s like since my father was a marine and there for not home for a long while.

I watched a Filipino girl, I recognized as Amy my second in command, in line talk to a Chinese girl.

‘School was slecht voor, maar nu na werden we uit onze huizen, we moeten leren over de dingen die we niet eens weten exsisted!’ she said and the chinesse girl nodded her head in agreement. I shook my head in confusion, the girl had just said: School was bad before but now after we were taken from our homes, we have to learn about things we do not even know existed!

It was odd because she had said it in Dutch but I know there are a lot of kids that like to speak in other languages. Though she is right about the school thing, it starts next week for middle schoolers since this week is elementary schoolers.

I took a deep breath and decided to grab some waffles and bacon. I grabbed a cup of milk and walked to my room. I was in the middle of taking a bite when my door opened. I looked at my waffle on my fork that was supposed to be in my mouth right about now and I looked back at the person that opened the door.

He had bright green eyes and dark wavy hair. To be honest he was really cute but I could tell he wasn’t human, I don’t know how but something was just off about him that made the hair on the back of my neck stand.

‘Can I help you?’ I said putting my fork down with still no waffley goodness in my stomach.

‘Umm yeah, I need to discuss with the main representative for Earth?’ he said more as a question and I looked at him.

‘Sit, and talk.’ I said putting the waffle in my mouth. He stared at me with an amused expression before starting.

‘We want you to tell your people that High School is starting the same day as middle schoolers.’ He said and I glared at him. He looked at me confused and I stood up glaring at him.

‘What did I do?’ he asked and I glared at him more.

‘You interrupted my breakfast which is now cold just because of that!’ I yelled. Stupid reason to be pissed I know but my bacon is cold! He looked at me with a blank expression before bursting into laughter getting me even madder.

‘Go to the cafeteria and get me some fresh bacon and waffles right now!’ I yelled pointing to my door.

‘Are you serious?!’ he said after laughing seeing my expression didn’t change.

‘Yes, now up!’ I yelled grabbing his shirt and lifting him up. His eyes got big and I opened the door. I threw him out and a couple bystanders that knew me watched in amusement.

‘I have more to tell you than just that.’ He said getting up.

‘Well you should’ve told me the important stuff before interrupting my breakfast! Now go get me my food!’ I yelled and I watched the bystanders hold in there smiles as I fought one of my own.

‘You’re joking right?’ he said looking at me shocked.

‘Monsieur you better do what she says,’ said a French girl putting on her bonnet.

‘You stopped her eating?  There is no way she’s going to listen to you now until you get her food. We are not joking.’ Said a Canadian boy crossing his arms.

The guy got grumbled something and walked away. I turned around without another word and closed the door. I walked to my small microwave and heated up my food and ate it. I heard a knock on my door and I opened it revealing a very pissed boy holding waffles and bacon. I smiled and took the food closing my door.

‘What I got you your food now I have information to tell you!’ I heard him yell. I turned on my iPod and put on Breaking Benjamin’s Until the End. I heard him pounding on my door and I heard a yell.

‘You have to let her eat her food in peace first with her music on! It’s like a morning ritual with her!’ a guy yelled and I smiled. I was almost done inhaling my food when I heard something slump down my door. I finished eating my bacon and I downed my mild. I went to the bathroom and brushed my teeth since I knew I was going to talk to someone.

I walked back to my room and opened the door and the guy fell back. I looked at him get up and I smiled and signaled him to come in.

‘Alright now what did you want to tell me?’ I asked turning off my music. He looked at me with his mouth gaped open and I frowned.

‘What?’ I said looking at myself trying to find something wrong.

‘What was all that?!’ he practically yelled and I shrugged my shoulders.

‘You messed with my eating schedule and that is a big no no.’ I said and he shook his head in frustration.

‘Anyways what did you have to tell me?’ I asked motioning for him to sit.

‘We need to know -.’ He paused then threw his hands up in frustration.

‘What is your problem?’ I yelled looking at him like I would a nut job.

‘All the stuff you made me do made me forget what I had to tell you!’ he yelled and I laughed. He was turning red.

‘Shut up this is all your fault!’ he yelled and I stopped laughing and rammed him to the wall holding a knife pressed to his throat. A flash of images crossed my mind -It’s your fault your mother died!-; -You’re the reason!-; -Die you bastard!-

The images stopped and I felt my face turn red.

‘Don’t you ever yell at me like that again!’ I snarled at him and he looked scared as hell.

‘It is not my fault you interrupted my breakfast routine or for you forgetting your stupid message! Next time say the important things first or wait till I finish eating!’ I snapped at him. I dropped him to the floor and put the blade on the side of my belt.

‘Leave, have your leader contact me later but as of now leave because I will not stop myself from killing you for disrespecting me like that.’ I snarled at him. He got up and bolted for the door. I’ve always been like that for people disrespecting me even back home, it’s just what my father taught me and that’s what I’m using to remember him by.

I grabbed my knife and threw it at the wall. It stayed in the place and I walked to my large closet that had two parts. I had a punching bag hanging and I put on wrap around my hands. I took off my shirt and my pants changing into a sports bra and shorts. I punched the bag and the voices only got louder.

-It’s your fault she’s dead-

-You had to kill her didn’t you?- The voices grew louder and my punches grew louder I grabbed one of the knives from the side of my leg I had prepared in case of emergencies. I stabbed the bag and ripped it open. The voices stopped and I took deep breaths calming me down. My brother was keeping an eye on the Elementary kids and I knew if he was here that guy would be dead.

There was a little tap on the door and I opened it to see Amy. She was my second in command because of her skill level. She is around 5’4 has brown eyes and light tan skin. She is also an army brat which also ment she knew how hard it was on earth without a parent that was in war.

‘Another bag already? I’ll get you a new one by lunch.’ She said looking at me and I pulled out the knife and set it down.

‘I heard the news that we are going have to start school early, is it true?’ she asked getting right to the point.

‘Yeah it’s true.’ I said sitting on my bed.

‘You know since you’re the leader they’re only going to give you the special treatment and a lot of the kids are worried about them going to get hurt.’ She said and I nodded my head.

‘I already thought about something about that. No one knows what the leader looks like besides a few of the higher people so at school I’m going to be set in the lower area.’ I said looking through songs on my iPod.

‘Then who are they going to see as the leader.’ She said sitting on a chair.

‘You.’ I said simply. I heard something crash to the floor and I looked up to see Amy on the floor with the chair with her.

‘Me? Why?’ she asked getting up. I silently chuckled and resumed looking through songs.

‘Because I hate dealing with people, besides people can talk to you more easily. We both are pretty much well matched and it’ll be the “human’s little secret.” Not only that but I can watch how everyone is handling this situation and I’ll make sure to defend anyone who’s getting hurt and can’t say anything to us.’ I said nonchalant.

‘I can’t do it! I’m not a leader! What about your brother?’ she said looking down and I looked up at her again.

‘I believe in you, I wouldn’t be asking you this if you couldn’t you know that. As for my brother, they will treat him and me like royalty even if our position switched since we are twins,’ I said and she looked at me.

‘Tell everyone we’re having a meeting the elementary kids should be back by now.’ I said getting up. I walked to my closet and almost gagged at the clothes in sight. It was all slutty clothing and I clenched my fist. Time for a wardrobe makeover. I started to laugh evilly. This is going to be fun.

I put on my clothes and stepped into the meeting hall where everyone was sitting down is there assigned seats with the flag of their country hanging above them. I stepped out and everyone went kept talking. I stood on the table and only some grew silent. I looked everyone and I brought my finger to my mouth and whistled at a super high pitched everyone grabbed their ears and looked at me going silent.

I smirked and walked down the table to wear one person was still talking. It was a guy talking and the person that he was talking to was staring at me looking scared. I looked at the nameplate of the guy talking and I smiled evilly.

‘Gabriel!’ I yelled and the guy finally shut up and gawked at me.

‘Yes?’ he said and he looked super scared as if realizing who I was.

‘Can you please shut up I have very important issues to discuss.’ I said in an icy tone making him gulp. He nodded his head and I smiled. I turned and walked back to my side of the very long table. I paused before I said anything and I looked at the black spots spread around the ceiling.

‘Anyone have a sling shot on them?’ I asked and a little kid raised his hand. I walked over to him and he gave me marbles with it. I thanked him and everyone looked scared.

‘Everyone under the table now!’ I yelled and everyone followed my order. I aimed at a black spot and hit it with accuracy with all the other black spots as well. You could hear a little crunch with each one I hit and when I was done I called everyone back up.

I pulled my hoodie down that I had on and I smiled at everyone.

‘Thank you for listening. I didn’t want those “things” listening to our meetings so I destroyed their cameras,’ and for some reason they all looked relieved.

‘For those of you who heard everyone is starting school next week I am here to confirm it’s true. Since next week starts tomorrow, yes everyone goes to school tomorrow. I will be making sure all of attend to your classes on time and I will find out. If you are not feeling well find a way to get to me and tell me that way I know you’re alright. I don’t trust these “things” and I will be watching you all from the back lines. I am going to be seen to “them” as a person like everyone else and not your leader so instead Amy is going to be the leader for all they know. I am going to make sure no one is getting hurt cause you all are now my family and I protect all my family. Don’t be afraid to get social with them as long as you don’t tell them about this plan. I want you all to bow to Amy as if she were me and if you still have the need to bow for me do it on the DL. I don’t want them finding out, this will be our little secret understood?’ I said and they all nodded.

‘This is Amy,’ I said motioning at Amy and I had her stand on the table next to me.

‘If I found out any of you disrespected her or each other or even skipped a class you will have to deal with me before I eat breakfast!’ I yelled and everyone had big eyes. They nodded and I smiled at them.

‘Good, I’m glad that’s over now you all may leave except for the elementary kids. Everyone else go do whatever but remember if you’re not up 6 Am, I am going to wake you up… personally.’ I said grinning evilly and they all bowed and practically ran out the door. I smiled and hopped off the table.

‘Come here my little kiddies!’ I yelled opening my arms as 12 elementary kids ran into my arms. I laughed when we all fell down and they all sat around me.

‘So how was your first day of school today?’ I asked and they smiled talking about how they made a friend and that the lessons weren’t that bad. I smiled at them and before I knew it an hour had passed.

‘Alright Kiddies time for bed.’ I said and they groaned but walked away willingly. The kid who had given me a slingshot stayed behind.

‘What’s up Max?’ I recognized as the little Australian boy from the meeting..

‘Umm there were some kids teasing me at school and I’m scared so I was wondering if I cannot go to school tomorrow.’ He said looking down and I felt my fist clench.

‘What grade are you in?’ I asked in a calm voice.

‘Fourth grade,’ He said and I took a deep breath in.

‘No you can’t stay here but if they do anything to you come to me at once and I’ll help you.’ I said smiling and he smiled and hugged me. I smiled and carried him back to his room and put him to bed. I sighed and walked to my room. Mental note: Change up assigned rooms that are assigned by country because it’s a pain in the a$$.

I went to my room and fell asleep right as my head hit the pillow. I felt my bed dip and I felt someone lie down next to me. I opened my eyes slightly and was met with my twin brother’s green eyes. He smiled and kissed my forehead.

‘Good night baby sister.’ He said and I instantly fell asleep.
