Prologue//1 (Edited)

Since my prologue is so freaking long I decided to make it two parts! Here ya go! Enjoy!

As the dragon dove for the NightWing palace, she halted abruptly in the air. Her wings flapped by her side, preventing her from diving further into the black abyss. The dragon sighed, and twisted her head around to peer behind her. The tops of the tropical trees beckoned for her in the distance, and the smell of the sea lured her farther in. She could almost hear the queen yelling in her ear, "what are you doing, Leopard? Giving up on your family, and life in the rainforest."

Leopard shook the thought from the head, and swiveled onto the rocky earth. Her claws stubbed up against the rough terrain, which sent a shocking pain throughout her arms. As she peered up through the mucky clouds, she took in deep breath. Launching herself into the atmosphere, Leopard flitted past the jagged mountainsides.

In the back of her useless RainWing mind, Leopard knew deep down nothing good was going to come out of this. She was supposed to be investigating the NightWing's palace, but she chickened out just as quick. She was going back empty clawed, and she was surely to get banished for some length of time.

As she headed back home, Leopard thought about maybe going and nabbing something from the Seawing Palace. RainWings never left the security of their home, so they wouldn't notice an object from the SeaWings and not the NightWings. They would never suggest a sneaky trick like that. She thought hard about it but then decided that if she were to get evicted for failing the mission it might not be forever. Possibly only a few days, weeks, months, or years. But if she were caught lying about having found the NightWing Palace it could mean death or total eviction from the entire rainforest.

Leopard landed on the banks by the sea, the waves crashed against the beach, and the winds howled in her ears. She grabbed the first thing that she saw, a pitch black rock. She grabbed the small bag looped around her neck, and tossed the object into it.

As Leopard glided into the rainforest, the storm began to escalate more quickly. Rain blinded her, but she saw the outline of the Queen's palace. She soared past her own home, because deep down she knew that it wouldn't be her home for long.

Leopard's talons scrapped against the wooden boards as she stepped into the Queen's chambers. She stopped and shook off the rain best she could and cautiously walked into the Queen's throne room. Leopard dipped into elegant bow. "Hello, Your Majesty," Leopard said.

"You may rise," came Queen Dazzling's silky voice. Her purple scales gleamed in the sunlight shining through the jungle vines. She was slightly plump, and her talons still had fruit juice from her earlier meal. Her scales flickered to a dark green color. "Leopard, have you accomplished your mission?"

Nausea swept over Leopard. Should I tell the truth? she thought. I desperately want to, but I........ Her thoughts slowly trailed off. She looked up to Queen Dazzling eyeing her scales. Leopard glanced down, they were dark purple; the color of guilt. She quickly covered up the purple with indigo. You got this, she said calming herself down. Deep breaths. In, out, in, out......

"Well, I found the NightWing palace. Here is an artifact." She fumbled with the bag strapped around her neck. She opened it and grabbed the jet black rock, almost like midnight itself. "Here, Your Majesty." She delicately handed it over.

The Queen admired the rock, probably not even knowing that it was found on the banks of the Kingdom of Sea. Leopard held her breath. "Great job, Leopard. I am very proud of you for finding me evidence that the NightWing palace is out there somewhere," Dazzling finished. Leopard released her breath. "But, where exactly is the palace? Could you fly me there right now? Give me directions?"

Leopard couldn't respond- her nightmare had come true.

The young dragon swam on the currents trying to get to the shore before the overwhelming figure of his Aunt Pearl, the Queen of the SeaWings, came upon him. He raced towards the shore like a torpedo. Now he fully understood the reason his aunt had named him Torpedo. She always said that names had power, and he now understood that this was true.

He saw a dark shape up ahead and realized too late that it was a rock, he couldn't swerve, dive, or climb high enough to get out of the rock's path. With a resounding and sickening crunch he hit the rock and fell towards the ocean floor.

Leopard was leading herself to her doom.

Queen Dazzling flew behind her, her huge royal wings deflected the oncoming wind, as Leopard struggled against the strong breeze. Queen Dazzling looked stunned by the amount of rain outside of the rainforest. (Which seemed quite odd).

Eventually Queen Dazzling pleaded to stop and rest, so they sat down on the soggy grass atop a ledge. Although Leopard didn't know, Dazzling had figured out the truth because she had seen those rocks before. She wouldn't kill Leopard, since killing wasn't the RainWing way.

"Leopard," Queen Dazzling said in her commanding voice.

"Yes, my Queen," Leopard said, bowing.

"You didn't find the NightWing Palace. You stole from the SeaWing's beach. I've seen those rocks before since I have stepped foot on that soil. For that, you are banished. I will return to the rainforest tonight but you won't remember me leaving," said Queen Dazzling as she turned and grabbed the sharp rock by her foot. She struck Leopard right on the temple.

Leopard stumbled back in shock, and soon she wandered near the edge of the cliff, and plummeted off. All she remembered before she hit the ground were to breathe and to land on her claws. She succeeded at neither.

                                              •<>•<>•<>•

Torpedo sped through the water like a whirlwind. His wings forced the water around him back, launching him forward with every stroke he took. His webbed talons added  more momentum to his powerful strokes. Torpedo's strong tail steered him out of the way of obstacles, unlike his earlier unexpected meeting with the rock.

Torpedo tilted his head up, looking up at the sky through the crystal clear water. In one swift move, he angled his wings and burst through the water, into the beautiful blue sky.

He glanced down at his scales. Clear droplets of water highlighted the prominent royal blue. But peaking through little crevices was a dazzling green color. He didn't really resemble his mother, WaterLily, he mostly looked like Depth, his father.

As he glided against the wind, his head felt horrible. It throbbed like no other injury he had ever had, but he would have to deal with it. As he surveyed the land he flew over, he spotted a strange object lying on the beach.

A white thing laid sprawled out on the pale sand. Torpedo started to descend, coming closer to the object. He landed, walking closer. With shock he noticed that the thing was a living, breathing dragon.

The poor dragon was a sickly white, and laid at a strange and painful looking angle. She had a beautiful angelic face, even though she could have very well been dead.

Three moons, Torpedo thought. She's a RainWing. Aunt Pearl will surely kill me if I help her. But if I don't she could die. He looked at the sad dragon. I can't leave her. I will take care of her.

Torpedo lifted the dragon on to his back. She wasn't that heavy, quite skinny actually. He scanned the area for shelter. Then he spotted it. A little cave sat a little ways down, the perfect spot.

As he trotted down the beach, Torpedo's head was whirling. Aunt Pearl is surely going to have my guts. Am I doing the right thing? She is a RainWing after all, the laziest tribe. Or is it all a lie? Maybe RainWings are dangerous, they just keep themselves hidden. I can not start having feelings for this dragon. Aunt Pearl will banish me, then seek me out and cut my head off. I can't help it though....... He looked  back at the sleeping dragon. Her breaths fell in even lengths.

Before he knew it, Torpedo stood at the entrance to the cave. It wasn't all that large, barely enough room to fit two dragons comfortably. He had to crouch down, but he slid the female dragon of his back. She laid peacefully, no longer laying at a painful angle.

"Maybe she would like food when she wakes up," Torpedo wondered aloud. He slowly backed towards the exit, with one last glance, he turned and flew into the sky in search of a meal.

                                               •<>•<>•<>•

Leopard slowly opened her eyes, but shut them quickly. She felt as if they weighed one hundred pounds, and not willing to budge. Slowly but surely, she peeled her eyelids open, taking in her new surroundings.

She was in a small cave, moist rock surrounded her. It had a low ceiling, not tall enough for her to stand. She heard waves crashing against the rocks on the beach. They were no longer hard, more peaceful, meaning the hurricane had ended.

She wobbily tried standing (as tall as she could stand in the low cave), feeling like a newborn dragonet all over again. Leopard succeeded, but pain struck her in the temple. She felt where it hurt, feeling a small patch of blood there. Curse you Dazzling! Leopard roared in her thoughts.

Her scales read her emotions, telling her she was happy and angered; happy to be alive, but mad at Dazzling for injuring her and banishing her!

Leopard staggered out of the cave, feeling the ocean air cooling her down. The sky was pure blue, not a single cloud in sight. She breathed in the sea air, feeling her lungs say thank you.

She was probably the only RainWing who had left the rainforest. Thank the three moons she had. If she hadn't been sent out before this, she would have been promptly mortified. But thanks to her adventurous spirit, she knew exactly where she was. Just off the shores of the SeaWing's territory.

SeaWing territory was always out of the question for RainWings. They weren't a fan of water, which ruined the whole point of going to the Kingdom of Sea. Now being here, it was actually kind of quiet and warming to the heart, (or maybe that was just her because this was the only thing she had).

One question lingered in Leopard's mind: how had she got here? As if on cue a dragon burst out of the salty water, spraying her. They weren't here for help, they were here to kill.

"AHHH!" Leopard screamed.

The SeaWing looked startled, his royal blue face puzzled. "What-" was all he managed to get out.

"ATTACKER! ATTACKER! ATTACKER!" Leopard roared.

The male SeaWing was a deep royal blue, with green under scales. He was holding a fish in his talons, still confused by the sudden ruckus.

"It's okay," he said reassuringly. "I'm not going to hurt you, I found you laying on the beach. You were passed out so I thought I could help you. I brought you to the cave and I went searching for food. Apparently you woke up while I was away. My name is Torpedo, by the way." He smiled.

Leopard couldn't respond. It was all too much to handle. This SeaWing had come to save me? Little old me? Doesn't he know RainWings are lazy, useless, and just plain old boring? He is kinda cute though. I like how his green underscales show through, making him look royal.

"My name is Leopard. Thank you for saving me, I really appreciate it," she said.

"No problem, good old Prince Torpedo here to save the day!" he laughed. Then stopped, looking as if he said something he shouldn't have.

Oh my moons, Leopard thought. He is royalty! I can't fall in love with a son or nephew of  Pearl's! No, no, no, stay in your own tribe.

Leopard's scales turned to a pink and green mix, the color of love.  I love him. Oh, three moons I love him! Leopard thought, her talons going to her head.

"Are you okay?" Torpedo asked. "Your scales are green and pink, should I get something to help with that, or is this a normal RainWing thing?"

"Oh," Leopard said sheepishly, "well pink means happy and green means worried, together they make..." Leopard's voice died with the passing wind.

"Oh....uh...I bet I know what it means! It means like....wait......it means that you are like overflowing with emotions! I did find you, leave you in a cave by the SeaWing palace, probably a lot to take in at once."

"Um, I guess that makes sense I mean normally green and pink mixed means, love although given the circumstances your guess makes more sense," Leopard said, laughing shyly.

After a long silence Torpedo leaned over and said, "My Aunt will, well, she'll try to keep us apart."

"Apart?" Leopard asked, confused, "What do you mean apart?"

"I mean..." Torpedo began awkwardly, "I mean, would you, would you like to go out with me?"

"Out with you?" Leopard let out a shaky laugh.

"Well if you don't... I mean..... Sorry," he hung his head ashamed.

"Three moons of course I will, I just mean you're like royalty and I'm just a RainWing no longer welcome in her own home," Leopard said.

"Well why don't we go meet my Aunt?" Torpedo said.

Ash flew and watched the suspicious looking RainWing that was circling in the air. After minutes of flying in continuous circles, the little brat turned and flew off. "Good riddance," she snarled to her partner with disgust.

"Stupid RainWings getting in the way of our mission to find the NightWing Island," snapped Ash's partner, Steam.

Ash swirled her wings around, her wing muscle aching. Her flaming red SkyWing scales shimmering in the bright sun light.

Steam's nostrils billowed smoke, fogging up the area around them. His broad shoulders holding his huge wings. "Looks like we've got trouble up ahead," Steam said, nodding towards the MudWings flying through the air on the path to intercept them.

Ash looked over to see their new challengers and laughed aloud at the sight.

"Steam," Ash said. "Looks like the MudWings sent the worst of the worst to fight us off, not the best of the best."

"Now, Ash," he said. "My love, you mustn't joke in these times. I'm sure the MudWings thought they sent the best to fight us away from their territory," he swished his tail and brought up his claws. "We are just passing through," he told the MudWings, bearing his teeth. The MudWings turned and flew away from Steam and Ash... fast.

"Now that, Ash, is how you get rid of those wimpy MudWings," Steam simpered.

"Why don't we go find a cave?" Ash asked.

"Sure, why not? We both need rest for tomorrow's flight," Steam answered.

•<>•<>•<>•

Ash and Steam rose out of the cave to fight the oncoming NightWings. "Why can't we have a day of peace, just cuddled up?" Steam complained, thinking about last night.

Ash snorted. "Ha! Us a day of peace, that's funny. A day of peace would be fighting RainWing's, even with their venom." Steam laughed.

"I suppose that is true. Let's get them Ash," Steam murmured in her ear.

Ash smiled, her wings unraveling, ready for flight.

Steam and Ash flapped their huge sun colored wings, straight for the target.

Steam launched himself at the nearest NightWing. The NightWing was quite large, scars decorating his face.

No need to worry about Steam, Ash thought. He can handle his own scales.
The next closest victim was a dragon around Ash's age. Easy, she thought harshly. She pounced on the female, raking her long, slendar claws down her unprotected underbelly. The NightWing let out a loud cry of pain, warning the others that she needed help.  Apparently, the others cared. NightWings flooded over to them both, roaring with rage.

Ash felt the normal hot, flaming fire starting in the back of her throat. She blew the hot flames on the NightWings, hopefully burning them. They seemed even more in rage. A male leaped forward ready to strike- then a red blur intercepted.

Steam had taken the hit, and it may have cost him his life.
