(Editing) Chapter One
My day started out horrible. Now, usually every day started out on the wrong talon but this one was just horrendous.
I woke up.
Wow, Jinx, you write so great. Okay, I have never wrote anything in my tail flipping life so please don't put this down.
Anyway, I woke up to the sun barely peaking over the horizon. The flowers glistened even more brightly in the sun light.
I stretched my wings so they reached their full length. The various shades of blue and green were vibrant in the dark forest. I looked over at my mom Leopard, her scales changing as she slept in peace. Her face was in a state of peace, which was different to see on her usually concerned face.
I slowly and silently crawled out of my hammock. I used my wings to float to the ground quietly. As soon as my talons scratched the earth the grass began to bubble and fizz.
Did I forget to mention that I'm different? Well if not, I am. I'm a hybrid. Yeah, you heard me right. I'm a crossbreed, a mistake, an outcast. Not only am I a hybrid, I have too much venom. Everything I cut burst into a bubbly blob, killing the object instantly.
I stalked away from the plant I just murdered, looked around for food because I was absolutely starving. A big, fat juicy mango popped into my vision and I swallowed it in one big gulp.
I knew that today was going to be different. I wasn't going to lay around today and be a lazy bum. I was going on an adventure, and I was ready to take it head on.
I flew towards the SandWing kingdom; prepared to have a little fun in my day.
Finally, I arrived at the edge of the Kingdom of Sand and I landed at a halt. Sand flew up around me, causing a mini sand storm.
"Jinx!" A voice boomed over the land. I turned my head to see my best friend, Sobek. Now, Sobek is literally the only dragon who likes me (parents don't count). He was a normal SandWing color, that pale yellow color. He had brown specks scattered about on his face, kind of like freckles. (Which were freaking adorable!)
"Hey, Sobek! I didn't think you would be up yet!" I ran towards him.
"Of course I'm up. Why wouldn't I be? When the sun's up, I'm up!" His smile shined brightly.
"So, what's on the agenda for the day?" I questioned.
"I thought we could go over to the very beginning of the IceWing territory. Just to check it out, ya' know."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" I shouted then I took off towards the sky.
Sobek followed reluctantly and they flew towards the IceWing territory.
As soon as they neared the frozen territory, a few dragons came into view. There were three SandWings and one orange/yellow SkyWing. They were obviously arguing.
Sobek abruptly stopped in mid air. "Jinx, I'm not going over there."
"Why?" I asked smugly. "You scared?"
"No," he glared at me. "Those are the SandWings sisters; Burn, Blister, and Blaze. The SkyWing has to be Inferno, their friend."
"Well, I'm not chicken to just fly past. It can't be that bad."
"I'm not going," he said. "You shouldn't be either. Your a hybrid, they pick on any dragon but now there's you and your easy to be picked on."
I was furious. I wasn't fond of being called a hybrid, but Sobek had crossed over the line when he said I would be picked on more easily. I stood my ground like any other dragon would have, I could deal with my own problems.
"HOW DARE YOU!" I screamed. "YOU CAN JUST LEAVE THEN! I CAN EASILY DEAL WITH MY OWN PROBLEMS, AND YOU ARE ONE OF THEM!"
Sobek backed away, obviously surprised about my new found rage.
"Fine then, I'll leave," with that he flew away into the horizon.
Now I really was left to deal with this problem.
I sped in front of the fighting dragonets only to be stopped by a piercing voice. "Oh, if it isn't the hybrid."
I slowly turned my head to see Inferno hissing through her sharp teeth. Steam pumped out of her nostrils, and her wings flowed out behind her majestically.
"I'm just passing by," I managed to say. "I'll be on my way."
"No you won't," Burn growled. Her face was coated with scars from battles, almost like trophies. Her barb tail arched forward, almost ready to hit me.
"We could make her a slave!" Blaze piped up. "She could give me manicures, shine my scales, and paint beautiful pictures of me!"
"Shut up," Blister sneered, hitting her sister.
"OW!" Blaze yelled. "THAT HURT!"
"Your a blob of camel spit."
"No I'm not! I'm too pretty for that."
The arguing from the sisters continued, and I took my one and only chance. I flapped my wings as fast as I could as I rocketed away from them.
"She's getting away!" I heard Inferno yell.
I didn't need to look back, because I knew they were flying after me.
I thought I had well lost them when a set of sharp talons clawed my tail. I really don't know who screamed louder, me or my attacker. Guess that what happens when you have too much venom.
I swung myself around, my claws out and exposed. Blister was flapping wildly as she held her talons in agony. The rest of her gang shot towards her. I could tell that Blister's talons were probably going to be scarred.
I had to make a decision, finish these bullies off or take my chance and leave. I'm not going to lie, it really was hard.
I twisted in midair to see what happened to Blister, not out of likeness out of mirth. I laughed aloud when I saw Blister howling in rage as her sisters and friend refused to touch her.
I turned back to look towards the SandWing territory. What I saw astonished me; Sobek was being held captive by a couple of IceWing's.
I flew closer, looking at the IceWing's in silent contempt. I hid myself and listened to the conversation.
"Boss," one was saying, "it's a SandWing he could be valuable."
The one called boss said, "Polar, don't call me boss, my name is Icecap. I suppose this one could be valuable, what do they call you?"
"It doesn't matter what they call me," Sobek spat.
"Now listen here," Polar snarled, "you have no right to give us lip, we're in charge here."
I'd had enough of this, something inside of me snapped, anger like I'd never known before overcame me. I charged the idiots that called themselves better than all other dragons.
"Don't speak to my friend like that!" I shouted, as I flew. I touched the first one and then the second one leapt at me. I let him, he didn't know about my venom.
Both IceWing's howled in pain as I sunk my claws into their scales. At the same time Sobek hit one with his tail, apparently they had been trying to kill me with their frostbreath before they were completely dead.
I stared, horrified of what I had just done. The dead IceWings laid in odd angles on the sand.
"Jinx!" Sobek leaped towards me, looking for a hug.
"Don't touch me!" I cried as I backed away.
"Jinx," Sobek said calmly. "It's all going to be okay. You just saved my life-"
"No! I just murdered two IceWings! I am a bloody murderer!" Tears ran down my face, stinging from the venom.
"You're not a murderer," he continued. "You just saved my life. Without you I would be dead. Jinx, don't beat yourself down."
"It's not okay! My mom-" something in my heart cracked in half. Tears flowed down my face like waterfalls. My mother was surely going to kill me. I could see it now "dragonet murders two IceWings. Mother leaves her daughter, afraid of being killed."
I sank to the sand and balled. I put my face in my killing talons, sobbing uncontrollably. Warmth neared my left side. Obviously it was Sobek.
I lifted my head, the tears frozen in place. Sobek sat there, his warm brown eyes looking into my vulnerable soul. His freckles glinted in the bright sunlight.
"What?" I croaked. "You might as well just leave."
"If you insist," with that he lifted his large wings and took off.
I don't want to admit it, but I didn't want to see him go.
*starts chanting*
SINX!
SINX!
SINX SHALL PREVAIL!
SINX!
SINX!
I'm done now.
-Jinx
