Salvaging what's left
(Let's have Kevin's point of view)
A lot has happened in such a short time it's hard to believe. Well, minus Johnny blowing up a building, shoulda figured that out when he was at the party. I'm still surprised that the dork, I mean, Eddward isn't the same wimpy brainiac like he use to be. He has confidence now, oddly enough, and a smooth talker, despite the same old vocabulary, perfect dancer, and just simply sly. The other Ed's are the same old idiots, guess time couldn't change them at all, except learning how to use guns and strength.
Right now Johnny's and Edd's crews are sifting through the rubble of the remains of the former classy restraunt as we finally got something to eat. Much to my dismay it was healthy veggie food. I am currently picking at it the leaves of the salad Edd ordered for me, the least they could do is put diced meat in it. Johnny snickered at me and ate his fruit salad cheerily. Edd was talking on his communicator with one of the members of his crew about anything that could be a clue or other. I stuffed my hand in the pocket of the suit Edd lent me intending to reach for my smokes but instead i found Edd's swtitchblade, finally remembering my uniform was in the car I slouched in my seat getting irritated. Loosening my tie so I could breathe more comfortably, I wondered if he expected that we'd be going to a high class diner. Hmm... Now that I think of it, is it a real surprise that Edd is wearing a suit? Or the fact that he is not wearing his normal beanie, did he throw it out or did the higher ups have him get rid of it? He appeared a lot more sturdy than old times still hardly any change in body build or his gap between his teeth.
Edd caught me staring, "Is something wrong, Kevin?" He asked curiously, putting away his communicator.
"You changed a lot since I graduated the training." I stated mainly thinking out loud.
"You changed a lot since then too." He replied. "You lost your jockey charm." Johnny snorted almost spitting out his cola. Edd smirked smugly at me.
"And you somehow gained any charm that you never had before?" I asked arching a brow.
"I think you know the answer to that, 'Sheriff'." He laced his fingers together and rested his chin on them. "I wonder if you still ride a motorbike like then." Edd's girlish violet-blue eyes stared at me questioningly with a bit of coyness. It felt like he was trying to hypnotize me, I would not be shocked if he was. The man obviously knew how to use his body.
I cleared my throat looking anywhere but him. "Yea, I still ride the stallion. I see you still take to four wheels."
The mafia dressed dork shrugged, "I don't have to worry about a high death risk." He said simply, finally turning his eyes from me.
I let loose a breath I didn't know I was holding. It somehow feels.... strange being near Edd now, like sitting next to a stranger you decide to start talking with.
"Any other changes I should expect?" I asked pushing aside my salad with a fork.
The former dork tapped his chin thoughtfully for a moment, "I mastered three other languages, martial arts, lock picking and combination lock cracking, hacking, and..." He trailed, I couldn't help but stare amazed as he shrugged again. "Well, that's all I can think of at the top of my head." His new familiar smug grin returned as he saw my expression.
"Double D," Johnny began. "You shouldn't be a cleaner even if you were bred to be so." He patted the former sockhead on the back.
"That is much appreciated, Jonathan, and please I much prefer to go by my given name now." Edd requested calmly, fixing his tie.
I looked at the clock on the wall, above the cash register near the exit. Almost time to return to the demolished building to see what the crew found. I clenched my fist anxious to get on with this case.
Edd seemed to notice, "In a hurry Kevin?" He asked, those eyes once again locked on mine. Dammit, why did he have to turn out like this seductive, smooth talking guy and not some continuos brainiac geek.
"I'm fine." I spoke through clenched teeth. "But we need to go soon."
Edd's eye held faint concern. "But I haven't touched your food. Will you be okay?"
I held back from slamming a fist on the table. "Vegetarian food is not my meal of choice, I'll order pizza when we get back Home."
Edd chuckled softly and whispered to Johnny. Next thing, I got diced watermelon stuffed in my mouth.
