Just When Things Were Looking Up

(Kevin pov-nya)
I was gunna turn away and head home before nightfall when another guy came close.
"Eddward, Kevin?" An annoying accent made both of us face the new comer. Skeleton arm showing under a torn left sleeve of a skeleton costume with a black and white film appearance himself, Stephen. I backed away an inch or two still creeped out by this guy since I got my glasses.

"Hello Stephen." Edd greeted with a smile in which the creep returned.

"I was hoping to see thee at my shop for our promised evening but this shall have to make do, no?" Stephen asked walking closer ignoring the fact I'm even here.
Wait.... Promised evening? Like a date? Edd....with the creeper? Am I missing something here?

I looked at the former dork confused as hell.
"My apologies, Stephen, there has been a change of plans and it is a long , tiring story." Edd answered avoiding my eyes.

The skeleton boy nodded without prying, "Understood, may we talk about a get together another time then?"

"Of course." A rosy pink color bloomed on Edd's face as he smiled. Why is my blood boiling at their conversation? "Just as soon as I can regain my bearings."

"Perfect, until next time we meet then." He concluded and carried on past us but not before placing a light peck on Edd's cheek, somehow infuriating me all the more.
When he was out of sight I returned my attention to Edd who looked shyly lovestruck, "Dare I ask?"

He spilled completely that it wasn't official and just a small 'treading on the waters' thing that happened after try left me at my dorm building.
I think I literally felt something dropped to my gut and sizzled harshly in the stomach acid. Still no clue why and not really wanting to investigate. So I just slouched a bit and grumbled my response, "Well, I don't think it's a good idea. Since, after all, he is from outside the Facility, the higher ups won't take kindly to it."

Edd's eyes went downward, crestfallen. "My mother wasn't part of the Facility." He muttered looking back up at me with those eyes and then it clicked. The familiarity in them of the caretaker's.

"You mean...?" I trailed pointing at the way out.

He nodded, "I am registered as adopted but they are my real parents." I was stunned silent, I mean what do you say to a kid you thought was adopted who knew his folks were actually his and didn't know he was recognized as not the true kid of his parent(s).
"Don't fret with any consolation, Kevin. At least they actually are my parents but that is not my current problem."

"Then what is it? I tried asking your.....mom but she wouldn't say anything." Even though she asked me to act like you never existed until you came back. I added mentally.

"Well..." Edd spoke softly trying to figure out where to start. "It appears that I am a half talent, more of a half anything that is part of the Facility and Bottom Ground." His eyes returned to the metal ground of the sewer drain. "And mother said the thing that is going on with me is something from her side, something both father and mother hoped never to happen....." He opened his mouth to say more but crumpled on the ground like a falling corpse.

"Double D!" I bellowed, kneeling down beside him. I lifted him up slightly to find his eyes open and a scarily unfamiliar grin plastered on his face.

"Salutations Sheriff." He greeted darkly.

"Double D?" I questioned hoping Edd is just joking around. But in this new Edd's eyes showed nothing of the kinder, less dangerous-looking Edd.

"I thought he asked you to stop with old nicknames, Kevin." New Edd spoke before sitting up then standing. "Hmmm.... I like this new attire, much more....breathable." He muttered looking down at his clothes. I stared at him as he stretched his limbs testing the flexibility of the fabric completely bewildered.
"Hasn't anyone told you it's rude to stare?" He asked glancing at me over his shoulder. "Not that I, myself, particularly mind..."

I shut my eyes and shook my head begging any god out there to let this be a dream, nightmare, some self induced illusion. But when I opened my eyes the new Edd was still there smirking at me.
"Oh please Kevin I'm not that easy to get out of people's minds." He spoke cockily, his boots thunking hollowly on the metal floor as he came closer to me.

Swallowing down my startled terror, I stood as I was and put on my cold front. He just snickered at me and stopped directly in front of me.

"Oh pumpkin~ Don't make such a face." New Edd said in a smooth tone. "It doesn't suit you at all, besides I also saw your weak moments too." I couldn't help but suddenly notice Edd's body was taller than me, why did I just notice this at the weirdest possible time?

"Where is Edd?" I demanded.

"Whatever do you mean? I am Eddward." He asked in a half-hearted innocent tone.

"I said Edd not Eddward and don't try saying that you are him. I'm talking about the Edd I know." I growled receiving only another snicker to my face.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" He asked sliding a finger along my lower jaw. "But I can tell you he is peacefully asleep."

I ground my teeth against each other annoyed with this Edd. The way he is shamelessly trying to flirt with me.
"Then wake him up and go away."

He gave a amused look. "I don't want to. We don't have as good as a communication as he thinks we have, after all I am the one who led him home."

"Home?" I questioned, furrowing my brows together.

He pointed the way me and Edd came, the sad excuse of a town. "I am the something that mother and father hoped would never happen to poor little Eddward. The issue he has been having, the thing that made Eddward unconsciously injure Nazz and Eddy, that little instinct that helped him survive through training." I shuddered under his cruel smile as he continued talking. "I am the split personality literally born into his blood and bones just like mother and all others born a Rebel. I brought Eddward where it all started, I brought him home."

"This is not his home." I growled. "A home is where you have the most memories, happy or upsetting."

"A home is where your roots lie. Yours lie up there in the trappings of the Facility. Ours lie down here with fellows that are like us, trapped with two different souls in one body." He snapped back. "We either compromise with each other or fight against each other until our body is destroyed or one dominates the other. You wouldn't understand that even if you tried, you of the Facility ignore your other side, your 'conscience', the little voice at the back of your mind."

"Stop talking like you know everything." I clenched my jaw. "You want to talk over Edd's body and you look down on me? And not for just not being like you but for also having done something long ago without any conscious of it while you stand there lecturing me about something that you are doing right now."

The Edd before me opened his mouth then shut it, his blue-violet eyes burning with endless rage. He opened his mouth again, "You wouldn't understand, being locked in the back of a child's mind watching through his eyes as he was dragged into never ending trouble wanting to wring their necks. Watching as he got picked on by bigger, more well praised trainees for his size and constant troubles with anything in athletics, always in fear of being tortured the next day and the day after." He raised his hands to cover his ears but didn't connect them. "Listening to the terrified thoughts degrading himself, to the jeering of others. Feeling the pinching and jabbing of knives in our skin as they 'playfully' tested their weaponry on us. No you wouldn't understand, you were one of them that jeered at us and everyone else like a selfish king. Using anyone for a shooting target with bee-bee pellets."

I simply stared at him. He knew what he was talking about. Yea, I remember all the times I purposely skimmed his ear with a metal pellet from my training gun. I loved watching people squirm away from me in fear, knowing I was meant to be on top of others until I was knocked off my pedestal when Nazz showed better talent then the Dollies came into play. I stopped caring and started running from fans. It was strange seeing Edd after I heard about him being held back, the way he didn't tremble nervously with me near him like he use to, the way he some how gained an upper hand in skill against me and making girls swoon with only a few words and his mannerisms.

"That was a long time ago. The past is past so let it rest."

Edd only snickered, "Yea I suppose. Past is past. Your Eddward would simply let it go as immaturity. Me, I would have had you eating your own fingers for even thinking of using me for target practice." His eyes widened insanely.

I put the barrel if my revolver to his head.
