A talking skeleton
After turning popular Kevin into dorky Kevin I agreed to help him find his glasses. He described them; thin rimmed around the lens with sliver pistol designs. I followed him as he retraced his steps where he was chased. The mob of girls were still running around to find him but didn't recognize him as we walked by, I received a punch on my arm for becoming cocky.
After about an hour or so I suggested he should get new ones.
"I can't those glasses came with me from the residence and no one but u knows I have them. Not even the higher ups." He replied.
"What about Nazz or Jimmy?" I asked. He shook his head in response, "Other than my folks it's just you."
Somehow I felt honored by this, then I came up with an idea.
"Follow me." I ordered pulling him along rather than letting him follow on his own.
We came to a near desolated part of the facility and stopped in front of a single floor building. It had an open door, a falling apart spectacles sign above the door frame, and a single window with a light flickering through.
Kevin dug his heels into the pavement to prevent being pulled in farther. "I told you I'm not getting new ones, no one is allowed to know about my eye sight."
I rolled my eyes and groaned. "Calm down Kevin, my cousin works here you can say that you need glasses and he won't ask questions. This isn't even an official building of the facility." I explained. "Nothing will be written down, no one will hear about your vision, and no one will care. Okay?"
Slowly the carrot head nodded and followed me inside.
The walls were decorated with glasses of every shape, style, and size. Candles were set in random groups on the dirt floor almost or mostly melted.
"Brian," I called out. "Are you home?" Kevin looked around seemingly terrified or just merely anxious.
"Eddward, is that you?" A light voice came from behind us. We both turned back to the open doorway to see a tall thin man, almost thinner than me, long brunette hair tied back, violet-blue eyes similar to mine, and wearing ragged scrubs carrying a bag of groceries.
Now Kevin looked purely terrified. I chuckled softly meeting the man's eyes, "It's good to see you again." I greeted with a calm smile.
The man set the paper bag on the lonesome table. "You too Edd. How long has it been?" He gestured for us to seat ourselves on some cushions than were laid out.
"About two family reunions I believe." I answered forcefully seating the paralyzed Kevin on a cushion.
"Right, right. When everyone disowned me for quitting the family job." Brian sighed at the memory before taking notice of my partner. "Who's he? Your lover?" He asked with a teasing grin.
My face grew warm, "Nonono, this is Kevin Barr. We were assigned as partners." I nudged the boy in attempt to snap him from his trance of fear. I am honestly annoyed by this new character of his. "He requires new glasses for he lost his original pair. And since he has a reputation as a no glasses wearing lady killer I figured coming to you would be the best option."
Brian snickered rubbing his stubble, "Glad to hear the word of my business is getting out but this won't be for free even if you are family." He grinned like a demon about to strike a deal. I sigh and slid my wallet from my back pocket, a hand stopped me. The hand didn't have any flesh or muscle and it certainly didn't come from someone I know.
"Fret not." A new voice spoke close to my ear. I jumped colliding with Kevin making him yelp like a startled blind dog.
A ghostly pale man knelt beside where I formerly sat. He had a boney frame and appeared as if he belonged in a black and white film. I also took note that the hand that touched mine wasn't real bone but a prosthetic arm.
"My apologies to have frighten you." He smiled in an awkward yet kind way before frowning at my cousin. "Have thoust no shame? Putting prices upon which you do not make or mend." He scolded.
Brian chuckled running a hand through his hair. "Well we need money for food you know Bones."
"Tis shameful, family must be cherished for money has no worth compared to thy loved ones."
The older man scoffed,"Well my 'loved ones' abandoned me remember that next time you want to scold me about charging my own family that wants glasses." Brian looked to us and noticed out sever confusion, "This is Stephen Lost, my roommate and the owner of the shop. Also known as the infamous Skull Head."
I relaxed slowly, Kevin relaxed even more so slowly just now clinging to my arm. "Pleased to meet you Mr. Lost." I spoke offering my free hand.
"Pleasure is mine sir Vincent." He returned shaking my hand with his actual hand though the difference between it and the fake one was close to none. "But please just call me Stephen." He offered his hand to Kevin who shook it tenderly. "And tis a pleasure to meet a new famous member of the faculty."
Kevin nodded with a sickly weak smile.
"So then, thoust requested new spectacles?" Stephen asked. "Thy have plenty made and readied to be chosen. Look upon thine own will." Kevin glanced at me like he was about to have a melt down, I nodded reassuring him silently, and he stood to go look around.
"Sir Vincent hath close relations with the young Barr, no?" Stephen spoke with an observational look in his platinum colored eyed.
"We grew up in the same residence during our younger years." I explained. "Though we weren't close friends at the time."
"Ah, speaking of," Brian budged in gently. "How are the other Ed's?" Stephen gave a wondrously confused look to the both of us.
"Rambunctious as usual, surprising that they even graduated with the rest of our class. They also got assigned partners as well." I answered with a bright smile.
"That's good to hear, that means I can tease Eddy more a bit more now." Brian snickered.
"Forgive me but I am confused of this title Ed's." Stephen declared with a frustrated expression.
"Of course, my apologies Stephen." I said hoping to put him at ease. "My friends and I shared the same first part of our names. There's Eddy, Ed, and me, Eddward. Everyone mainly called us the Ed's."
"There were more names than that, dork. The three dorketeers, dork trio, the idiot, nerd, and big dummy...." Kevin called from the other side of the shop. I merely smiled attempting to ignore him but I couldn't resist to reply with, "Yet who is the dork now Kevin?" In which I received a blown out candle hurled at me, fortunately I ducked in time letting it split in fractions against the wall, and a, "Shaddup!"
"Temper is strong his is." Stephen tsked picking up the white pieces.
"So is his arm." Brian inquired with an impressed whistle. I nodded in agreement already fully aware of this as I sat up again.
The evening carried on with small chatter between Brian, Stephen, and I while Kevin occasionally rejoined our group to see how a different pair of glasses looked on him. Soon enough night fell upon us and it was time to leave, Kevin finally settling for a pair similar to his old ones. We began to start exiting when Stephen caught up and walked with us, dressed in a skeleton costume. The left sleeve was torn off showing his prosthetic arm. "May I walk with thee?" He asked almost shyly. I am aware I should have noticed this sooner but his way of speech is.....similar to mine just more into the time of knights and ladies.
(I don't own this guy either butt I came up with the whole Stephen Lost name you can find his pic if you look up assassin ed, edd, and eddy. His code name really is Skull Head and speaks in shakspearean parlance with a rediculous crush on Edd. He's a funny guy to me and thank you for reading my rant -desu)
Kevin shrugged still a bit tense and I answered with an 'I don't mind'. The walk was silent as we entered beneath the white streetlamps. The streets were empty except for a few couples or groups returning to their dorms from a party somewhere an a few security guards making sure no one was disturbing sleeping residents.
Stars sparkled through the glass window panes that shelter us from harsh weather. A waxing moon shown well against the black and white specked canopy. It was beautiful night, I only wish I could feel the night time breeze on my face. I took me several moments to notice two pairs of eyes staring at me from both sides. Stephen with a dreamy wishful expression, Kevin with a surprisingly quiet thoughtful one. I turned my head back and forth between them. "What is it?" I asked bringing them back to reality, Kevin runnng into a lamp post and Stephen tripping over a misplaced stone brick.
