Simon was a bit worried about Negan. The man looked visibly stressed, his shoulders were slumped, and his head was resting on the palm of his hand. Negan was a powerful man and he was often stressed, but this couldn't compare to any of that. Negan looked as though something was eating away at him and Simon didn't know what it was.

With a sigh, Negan took another yellow envelope into his hands and tore it open, it envelope reading,

Negan

Number six.

It was confusing to Simon, but by the look on Negans face he knew exactly what it meant. This was his sixth confession from the mystery war veteran who was out to taunt and torture him.

so here we are, confession number six. i bet you're getting tired, well i am too. i'm exhausted, but not for the same reasons no. i'm having fun playing this little game with you, but it is always hard to keep a secret from the one person you want to tell the most.

i did something bad though negan, i told you that in my first letter. but things get hard and not many people can make it in this world, this has been eating me up though.

you're a bad guy, you weren't always but you are now.

things are hard, and to make things easier for your simple mind, i'm going to tell you my name; to see if it rings any bells.

so, this is confession number six negan – once upon a time, you called me your best friend. my name, is river montgomery, this was helpful i presume.

Negan folded the letter slowly, he felt sick to his stomach. How did he not realize who she was, River Montgomery was his best friend in highschool, she was a cheerleader while he was football captain, she was there when he got his girlfriend pregnant and was the maid of honour at his wedding when he was nineteen years old; young but in love he was.

River Montgomery really did know him like the back of her hand, they went on adventures, slept at each others houses on weekends, worked at the town movie theater together. They were attached at the hip for so long Negan didn't know what it was like to be asleep at 3am because they were always on the phone sharing their late-night thoughts.

But he made a mistake when she went off to join the army, he never wrote or called her; not once. All because he was angry at her for leaving him, he was angry because she did the one thing she talked about doing her entire life. But out of spite be cut off all contact, and now he was paying the price for seven years of no contact. It would explain why she never shot him when he was out of the sanctuary and walking around the large area; she still had a soft spot for him and she would never kill him.

But she would definitely hurt him for being a heartless jackass.
