The Hot Desert

"Alright Beast Boy. You can stop here." Raven told me. I landed on the hot sand and instantly morphed back to a human because of the sand.

"Oww! Ow! Ouch! Hot sand!" I screeched.

"Well it is at least 110° out here." she said as she fanned herself with her cloak.

"Hey, why are you wearing that? Isn't it hot?" I asked.

"It protects my skin. My demon DNA did that before, now that is gone, I don't know what is going to happen."

I just shrugged and turned into a camel and motioned for her to get on my back with my head.

She hopped on and I trotted along the sand dunes.

"I am 90% sure the gate to hell is in a giant sand dune in the middle of the desert. In order to figure out which it is we have to stand in front of the sand dune and one of us tells he other to 'go to hell'. The gates will open and we run through as quickly as we can." I made a grunting noise to tell her I understand.

I was constantly stopping to eat and since I was a camel I ate cacti. Which was not pleasant, but I did it anyway to save food.

----------

We found a farm! At least I think it is. I can't tell. Why would they have farms out here anyways? I guess maybe, a cacti farm? Maybe? I don't know.

I morphed back.

"Raven, you ok?"

"Yes." she said plainly. She seemed to be her old self. Either that or something is wrong. But I didn't push.

"Can you tell if that's a farm over there?" I pointed at what I thought was a farm. She stared at it.

"Hmm... Looks like it." She said.

"Well come on then!" I morphed into a camel again and I ran toward the farm with Raven on my back. She started playing around with a pink and red butterfly. Then it landed on her head. It stayed there the whole time there.

"That thing really likes you Rae." I said when I tiredly morphed back into my human form.

"Yeah, I guess it does." She said cheerfully as she played around with it even more. Then I saw something in the back of the building.

"Hey Raven look! Chickens!" That caught her attention and she froze, then groaned. "What's wrong with chickens?"

"I'mb allergic to their feathers Beast Boy." she said as I brought a chicken over to her. I did not know that.

Oh jeez the feathers are everywhere.

"Achoo!" She sneezed, which threw her hood off.

"Achoo!" she sneezed again, which made her drop the chicken.

"Beast *sniff* Boy!" She yelled at me.

"Heh! Ok nevermind! Lets just keep moving!" I picked her up and threw her over my shoulder and ran. She kept sneezing until we were like a mile away from the farm.

"Are you good now?" I asked when we stopped.

"Uh *sniff* yeah. Can you put me down *sniff* please Beast Boy?" I put her down and looked at her. I was gasping for breath. Maybe I shouldn't have ran.

"The sun is going down. We *sniff* should find some place to go rest." She suggested.

"Not here. Too many cactuses." I said.

"Cacti." she corrected me.

"Oh right!" We walked to a clear area of sand we saw in the distance.

She's holding my hand with her head on my shoulder. We've been walking for a long time. I didn't even realize we passed lunch.

Wait, did Raven eat at all today? Neither of us ate breakfast, but I've been eating cactus-cacti all day. She kneeled on the ground when we got to the spot.

"Raven? Did you eat today?" I asked. She simply shook her head as she looked up at me with exhausted eyes. I'm pretty tired to but I've been eating. "Then you should eat."

"What about you?" she said quietly.

"I can eat whatever the animal I turn into eats. I've been eating cacti all day Rave. We save food like that.

"Oh." she said under her breath. I barely heard her. I sat criss-crossed and pulled off my backpack. I opened it and pulled out a carrot.

"Here. Eat this." I said. She took it and took half of it down her throat. Wow she is hungry. She immidietly looked happier. She smiled.

"Thanks Gar." I hugged her, and after a minute she hugged me back, then finished off the last of the carrot, and threw the stub away.

She is chewing a carrot in my ear. I think its time for her to get off now. I let her go and we smiled at each other.

"Wait, where are we going to sleep Raven? We didn't bring any tents." I asked

"You can sleep in my cloak. That's another reason I brought it. I know you like it in there, and there's lots of room. And I didn't pack tents because of space problems. We need food more than a place to sleep. I also brought two small pillows." She pulled two small throw pillows out of her bag. She opened her cloak. Instead of getting in there, I changed into an African Wild Dog and snuggled down in the indigo cloth. Being a dog saved space and made me aware if any predators came around. I finally got comfortable when,

"OW!" Raven wailed in pain and jumped back, taking me out of her cloak. I morphed back into a human.

"What happened?" she was rubbing her leg and a scorpion was heading for her. She inched back, still holding her leg. Thinking quick, I remembered that mice eat scorpions. So I morphed into a desert mouse and ate it.

Ewww!!That was disgusting!

"Ewww." Raven said out load.

"What happened? I asked frantically as I morphed back.

"I felt something crawling on my leg we I kicked it away, and then it came back and stung my in my leg." She answers in between sobs.

"Aw jeez Rave. It was only protecting itself. But don't worry. Not a lot of scorpions can kill you." I reassured her. I know that for sure, I also know that some do kill healthy adults, so I don't know what will happen to Raven. (I brushed up on my animal knowledge while packing so I was prepared) "Now let me see it." I said. Its not like I can tell what kind of scorpion it was by the sting, I'm not that good, I just wanted to see it.

She slowly lifted her hands and there was this big sting on the front of her leg. I cringed. It looked like it hurt. A lot.

"You'll be fine. You will just experience some symptoms." That was a non-lethal sting. I don't know what would happen if it is a lethal sting so I hope she doesn't asks about it.

She looked at her leg, then looked at me, then laid her head on the pillow. She opened her cloak to let me in, and I morphed into a wild dog again and got in. She lowered the cloak and I was fast asleep, but something tells me she isn't.

At least she didn't ask what would happen if it was lethal. I really hope its not.

Raven's P.O.V

I knew the thing was lethal. I remember seeing it in a book once, I just don't remember its name. I also read what the symptoms were if you didn't get the venom out. They weren't pretty.

They include some small stuff like redness around the sting and mild pain, and some not so small stuff like sweating, vomiting, high and/or low blood pressure, and accelerated heart rate. I forget the rest. But this was going to be a long trip. We need to make this as quick as possible so I don't die before we get back to the tower. Robin or Cyborg could get it out somehow.

I went to sleep with the mild pain.
------------------

I woke up and Beast Boy was not in my cloak. I looked and it was blurry for a a second but I got my bearings soon enough. I looked around, and he was standing in front of a dead chicken. It looked like he just killed it.

"Beast Boy?" He turned around in surprise. If I woke up after he did it must be at least 10, 11 o'clock.

"Hey look Rae! I caught breakfast! Lets cook it!" He was so enthusiastic about his catch. I started the fire ans he cleaned the chicken off with some of our bottled water. He even made a little rotisserie. As he turned the chicken I noticed my leg. The sting was a little swollen. Oh boy.

I got a bottle of water from my bag and drank some of it. When Beast Boy finished the chicken he didn't eat a single thing.

"You have it." He said.

"What?"

"You didn't eat all day yesterday. You have it." He repeated.

"I can't eat this whole thing." I said, getting devlishly hungry as I stared at the chicken. He chuckled.

"Fine. I'll take a leg." He said. Once he grabbed the leg I tore into that thing. All that was left was a little meat on the ribs. I'm still hungry. But that will have to do for now.

"Told you." He sneered. We stood up. I looked him in the eye.

"When did you get taller than me?" I asked.

"What? Oh!" He looked at the top of my head. "I didn't even realize that. What am I, a good inch taller now?"

"I guess." I said. I picked up my backpack. "Lets get going." he changed into a camel and I hesitated to get on. Not that I didn't want to, but that I couldn't. My kegs literally didn't move for a second, but then I finally got them to swing over Beast Boy's back and he trotted off.

"Other way." I said and pointed left. He fumbled around a little but then we started going the right way.

"That way beast boy." I directed him. He looked confused. I was navigating with my communicator. I brought it along for this. I shows it to him and he was so surprised that he morphed back into a human while I was still on his back and I landed on top of him.

"I totally forgot about the communicators!" I smiled and gave him a wink. I got up and dusted myself off. "Oh sorry." I smiled his goofy smile and all I could do was roll my eyes and smile back.

Cyborg's P.O.V

Man I miss BB. We had a whole tournament planned for yesterday. And when it came to a tracking mission we had yesterday, we lost the guy. I couldnt track him on my sensors and neither on the communicators. We could have used BB or Raven for that one.

"Hey! Anybody want breakfast?"

"Yes please friend Cyborg! May I have the pig and the chicken offspring?" She asked.

"You mean bacon and eggs?" Robin asked.

"Yes that is what I said was it not?"

"Uh, sure."

At least Star is happy. Without her me and Robin would be at eachother's throats. Yesterday we fought about calling them. I'm going to ask Star this time and let her have the final say.

We finished breakfast, now I'm going to ask.

"Hey Star, should we call Beast Boy and Raven?" Robin's eyes became the sizes of a grape fruit.

"Cy we talked about this!" he yelled angrily. I am totally calm.

"Calm down Robin. I think Star should have the final say." I gave him a sly smile and he crossed his arms. We waited for Star to answer.

"I...I...I think we should call them." She stuttered.

"Haha! Your girlfriend is on my side this time Robin!" I grabbed Star and pulled her over to me. We ran towards the computer and Rob slowly made his was over.

"Robin calling Beast Boy. Robin calling Beast Boy." he said while pushing the call button on the computer. No answer

"Friends, what if our friends are in trouble?" Star asked in a worried tone.

"Relax Star I'll just call Raven. Robin calling Raven. Robin calling Raven." that sounded kind of funny. Like a robin was calling a raven.

"Raven here." she answered.

"Raven! How joyous! How are you doing?" before she answered I noticed her hair.

"And how did your hair get long?" I asked.

"Me and Beast Boy are fine," She showed us BB as a camel. He made his annoying camel noise and Raven took over the screen again. "And the hair? I have no idea. Aaah!" then she fell.

"Oops, sorry again!" Beast Boy apologised. He morphed back into a human with Raven still on her back and she fell. I guess this isn't the first time he did it.

"And correction: Everything is mostly fine." He corrected Raven. She looked a little worried.

"What's the matter?" Robin asked.

"Raven got stung by a scorpion last night." He took the communicator away from Raven.

We all looked at eachother.

"By what kind of scorpion Beast Boy?" Robin asked in all seriousness.

"I don't know. I didn't really get a good look at it before I ate it." WHAT?!

"Ewwww!!!" We all said.

"He turned into a mouse first." Raven clarified. We all sighed a breath of relief.

"Friend Raven, how are you doing then?" Star asked again. She gave a long sigh.

"It hurts a little and its swollen. My vision also gets a little blurry for like 2 seconds, but I'm mostly fine." She replied.

"Are you sure?" I asked. She nodded. "Where exactly are you going?"

"The gates to hell are in a giant sand dune in the middle of the desert." as Raven spoke, Robin plugged the coordinates into a computer.

"The center of the Sahara? That's still about a day away Raven." Robin informed her. "Once you get there, you have to fight him, then that's about a 2 and a half fly home. You sure you'll be ok for the next couple of days?" Robin asked. They looked at eachother.

"Yeah. She'll be fine." Beast Boy answered for her.

"Ok then. Bye guys."

"Bye." They said. Robin cut the connection.

"Friends, do you really think Raven is ok?" Star asked.

Me and Robin said a straight up, "No."

"I'll search for an antidote. But it will be hard not knowing what kind of scorpion it is." Robin said.

"Just look up desert scorpions. While you are doing that I will work on something to apply the antidote." I said.

"Star, can you help me?" Robin asked.

"Of course!" She said happily. I guess I was doing this on my own.

Raven's P.O.V

"Gar! Why did you tell them that?" I asked angrily.

"They needed to know. It will make it a little easier to find an antidote for them to apply when we get back. What's the problem?"

"I didn't want them to worry." I said.

"If I bring you back almost dead then how do you think they will feel then?" I know he didn't need an answer. So I didn't answer him. Instead I just kept walking.

My vision got blurry again, so Beast Boy carried me. And I fell asleep in scortching dead heat in his arms.
