THAT NIGHT AT THE PARTY CHANGED SOMETHING FOR BILLY. When he first moved to Hawkins he felt like he had to make sure everyone saw that he was this scary tough guy that you shouldn't mess with. It's why he was so quick to react, or overreact.
It was also why he never made it a point to try and make friends. Or be overly affectionate with any of the girls that tried to hook up with him. And he hadn't been too affectionate (in public) with Addie either, apart from the occasional arm around her shoulder or kiss on the cheek.
He didn't know if he was ready to be the kind of boyfriend that he knew Addie deserved, but for the first time in a long time, he genuinely wanted to try.
After they danced, they went back inside and spent the rest of the night just having fun. Addie only had that one beer when they first arrived, because after her talk, and special moment with Billy, she knew she wanted to be as sober as possible to hold on to what she knew would be some of her favorite memories.
By the time they left the party hours later, she was completely sober, and so she demanded Billy's keys. While he hadn't gone overboard, he was definitely drunk.
Still, he was very protective of his car. He'd actually never let someone else drive it before. His dad did a handful of times, but Billy definitely didn't let him. Neil had come in demanding the keys, and Billy knew what would've happened if he said no so he'd just silently hand them over.
But he looked at Addie and saw that she wanted to drive his car so that he didn't have to, so that she could take care of him and make sure he got home safe, and he did the same thing. Without a word, he fished the keys from his pocket and handed them over. This time, however, there was a smile on his face.
Addie had a pretty good memory and once they got back onto the main road, she remembered how to get to his house. Billy looked at the house before getting out of the car, and sighed in relief. Yes, his dads car was home but the only light on, he could tell it was from Max's room.
After handing him the keys, Addie realized she didn't know how she was supposed to now get home. She decided to push that thought from her mind until she got Billy in the house and made sure he'd be okay.
Before they went up to the front door, Addie had an idea. She crept up to Max's window just incase her mom or Billy's dad walked by, but when she realized it was just Max, who was only flipping through a book, she knocked as softly as possible. It took a few knocks but eventually Max looked up, surprised to see Addie standing there.
"Hey," Addie whispered. "I brought Billy home. He's not completely wasted but can he climb in through your window?"
Max nodded. "Good idea, Neil fell asleep on the couch and my mom didn't want to wake him, so he's probably still there. He definitely would've woken up if you went through the front door."
Billy climbed up with ease, and turned around to lean down and help Addie. Once they were both inside Max's room, they all laughed at how ridiculous the situation was.
After thanking Max (well Addie thanked her anyway), the 2 teens went into Billy's room. It was the first time Addie had ever seen it, and she was pleasantly surprised.
With how often he mentioned not wanting to move here, part of her expected to see bare walls and no decorations. But he had some posters up, and some vinyl records on a display shelf.
"What are you looking at?" Billy came up behind Addie and put his arms around her.
"Just all of your records, they're cool," Addie said, impressed with his collection. "Hey, will you get in trouble if I use your house phone? I have to call Jonathan and see if he'll come pick me up."
"Stay," Billy murmured, softly kissing her neck.
Addie sighed, wishing they could stay in this moment. But she knew they'd both be in trouble if she stayed.
"You know I can't," she turned to face him. "My mom would freak out. She'd realize something was up when I don't come out of my room in the morning, and then she'll assume I've been kidnapped or something."
"What time does your mom usually get up?"
Addie had to think for a moment. "Uhh, like seven, 7:30?"
A big smile appeared on Billy's face. "Perfect. You only live ten minutes away. We can wake up at six, I'll have you home before 6:30 incase she gets up early."
Looking at the clock in Billy's room, Addie chuckled. "It's almost one. You'd be okay with getting five hours of sleep just to get up early and take me home?"
He nodded. "It'll be worth it. Plus, then I get to spend more time with you. Even if we're both just sleeping the entire time."
Addie bit her lip, contemplating what to do. With Will being missing for so long, she knew the exact reaction her mom would have if she found her daughters room empty, with the bed still made because it hadn't been slept in.
Still though, she never woke up before 7....
Fuck it, it's fine.
"Okay," Addie smiled, thinking it was cute how much Billy wanted her to stay.
He went to his closet and pulled a shirt off the hanger, saying she could sleep in it. Not even fully realizing what she was doing, Addie put the shirt down, then slipped her shirt off over her head, leaving her in her bra and shorts. She put Billy's shirt on, which was more like a dress on her because of their 9-inch height difference.
(a/n: I'm not sure how tall Billy is supposed to be but Dacre is 5'10" in real life so I'm using that. And just my own height for reference which is 5'1" haha)
Then, she slipped her shorts off and neatly folded it into a small pile, ready to change back into the outfit in the morning.
Billy looked away, but he snuck a glance or two. Addie was so beautiful, but he knew now wasn't the time to try anything. Now that he'd come to realize how much this girl meant to him, he wanted anything they did together to be special. She was sober and he wasn't, so he knew he should wait.
After that, Billy set his alarm for 6am and put it directly under one side of his pillow so that when it went off, it wouldn't wake his dad. The best chance he had at not getting in trouble was to have Addie out and home, then get back home himself before his dad even woke up. Luckily for Billy, Sunday's were Neil's only day off, and he always slept in.
They got into bed, and Billy couldn't contain the smile on his face when Addie laid down close enough next to him that they were touching. After a moment, Addie turned so that she was laying on her stomach, and propped herself up with her arms.
"Thank you," she smiled. "For talking to me, and dancing with me."
"Anything for you," even though he didn't think before he said that, and even though he was a little drunk, he realized that he genuinely meant it. Addie was one of the only good things in his life, and he'd do anything to make her happy.
Addie seemed to hesitate for a moment, but then she put a hand on Billy's cheek and slowly leaned in, closing her eyes.
Billy knew their first time together should be special. But that didn't mean they couldn't do other things...
